Dead Rising 2 |OT|: He knows his way around a zombie or two.

Ahh that's good.

I have a feeling I might restart then so I can level up a beast - I can only assume this makes the game story play through much easier (or at least less stressful haha). Any important tips to this or should I just spend the 72 hours exploring on my own with no guides/agendas?

Thanks!
Leveling up makes the story mode a lot easier. Chuck gets faster, stronger, more moves, more health and more inventory space. I think you should just start over, level up a bit and explore around to where you are satisfied. This game really rewards going off the beaten path to reward you with all kinds of hidden items.

Then restart and use the guide to help you with a solid run through the story mode. The guide will probably be handy in finding survivors who don't have missions attached to them. Not to mention the different books as well.

The game isn't meant to be one and done. A lot of people got frustrated with this mindset. They even made the game easier because of these complaints. The game really goes faster than you think, even on your 2nd or 3rd play. Just running around playing with Zombies waiting for the next mission to start.

Sounds like a plan :)

Yeah the guide has been good so far at showing me useful things along the way like blending drinks/where magazines are/combo cards/where zombrex is etc.

However, when it came to the magazines it was pointing out so far (early levels) it mentioned that I'd probably have to leave them due to inventory slots, which was indeed true. Leveling up before doing the main story mode will fix that :)

I'll grab those three gambling books and make some money and just arse around till I get to somewhere near level 30 like yourself.

Made it up to level 30, I would've kept going, but I triggered an encounter with a psycho (mall cop dude), decided to try fight him, then bailed and when I went back outside his mall it triggered another psycho (sniper). I got killed haha.

Hadn't saved in a few levels, so I just restarted.

I was using the technique of getting 5 wingmen and just walking around with a shotgun. Jeeez oh they annihilate zombies left/right/center. I made 2 million and tried to use the SUV to level up, but the wingmen were far more effective. Throw in 2 combat magazines, and 2 horror magazines and I was raking in 600PP a kill, with 750PP at milestones.

Level 30 should be more than enough to start the story mode now though.

Case West and Episode Zero are half off right now on marketplace apparently.

Yeah, I noticed that. Can anyone tell me if the DR2 disc is required to play Case West? I still haven't bought the full retail game yet.

I'll definitely be getting Case West, but I'm unsure about Zero. I've already beaten the main game 4 or 5 times and it seems like Zero is not only short, but just more of the same. I always play co-op with my girlfriend, so not being able to do that in Zero doesn't help.

Is there anything that really distinguishes it from DR2 and makes it worth a buy? I know it's extremely cheap right now but I like to hang onto my points for stuff I really want.

Edit: Went and bought it. Thanks for nothing, guys!

Soo I bought this off of Steam for 20$ and I was highly enjoying it until Katey died. I hate stuff like that, I don't want kids to die so I am thinking of restarting right now or maybe get a few levels and then restart it. The game is incredible frustrating to get infos out of. Where do I find Zombrex, dammit, and don't force me in this damn underground train thing section when I need to rescue the girl. ARGH! :)

Running around and gaining a few levels before restarting is a good idea, item slots and mobility upgrades really help out.

For money to buy Zombrex you can collect the gambling books and go to the giant slot machine in one of the casinos. Your money carries over when you restart too so if you get enough, Zombrex won't be a big issue any more.

Hm I must have missed the option to buy Zombrex, I will hunt that down, thanks.

It's in the shops run by the vandals/burglars. Careful though, every time you buy Zombrex the price goes up, so don't buy it unless you really have to. The game gives you enough to save Katie the whole way without having to buy any, unless of course you miss one.

I must have missed it I guess, I had no idea where to get any and did as many cases as possible. Where do you get the second one, if not from buying?

I actually didn't realize there were so many, but apparently there are NINE you can get without using the Pawn Shops, four of which are in the environment and available at any time.
Crazy, thanks. I guess a large potion of players are seeing Katey die in their first playthrough. The game should really give you a little bit of direction where to find Zombrex. I actually thought I would get missions of where to find Zombrex every time, but sadly you need to get the information outside of the game. I now bought one and will get some in the wild, should keep me safe for a while I guess.

Hopefully the next game is a little bit better in giving the player informations. I guess some of you guys like that and I would like it too, but letting a kid die is terrible :/

The missions for Zombrex do come up pretty much just when you need them, but the game is about exploring the environment as much as anything else. Some of the Zombrex that's just laying around is in obvious places. Plus you should easily be able to afford the first zombrex that the pawnshop sells.

If anybody has held off on this I think it's going to be a Greatest Hits soon. Amazon and Best Buy have the box art with Greatest Hits logos on it. The price is still $40 (Canadian) though.

I played the Xbox version and while that definitely had some slowdown and some tearing it's hardly a gamebreaker. DR2>DR1 imo.

PC version is $10 at GS and Newegg, I picked a copy up. Shame there will hardly be any TIR players to get those out of the way.

capcom didn't let them to use their framework engine,so they had to create an engine from the ground up,360 was the leadplatform,ps3 got the crappy port

it's sub hd too on ps3

Yeah, I know, I payed like 15€, so it should be ok. But man, it's quite bad. It's sub HD and STILL constantly running with low FPS and tearing. This is one of the worst performers this gen.

So I held off on getting this for a while, mainly because of the hate on it, or rather the lack of love/hype. Finally bought the PS3 version for about $12 two weeks ago. Just beat it and the game was amazing.

For all the crap Capcom gets, they manage to pump out some unique stuff. One of the more amazing moments for me was when I had played all the way to the final boss and got my first co-op invite at that time. (says a lot about the lack of an online community!) It was such a hoot and I wish I didn't have such a ridiculous backlog because as soon as I beat it I just wanted to replay.

The PS3 version is in a horrible state. One has to ask how they could relase it. It feels like it's running in slow-mo with avg frames between 15 and 20. The tearing is one of the worst I've seen in this generation so far. WTF Crapcom?

Which is super bullshit as well. Watching videos of how Blue Castle designed the engine for DR2 and seeing that they have a tool that lets chuck run around the game on auto pilot to check for dropped frames, there should never have been an issue. At the same time, I wanted more zombies in DR2, but shudder to think of what would happen to the framerate in that case.

But there is always Dead Rising 2: This time its got Frank West edition. That game will cut the load times from Dead Rising 2 in half, smooth the framerate (hopefully) and add more zombies. It's a wonder what optimizing your game can do, too bad Blue Castle didn't seem to do that for the PS3 version of DR2.

Yeah, recent press Capcom Canada has been doing has got me pretty curious about optomizations they may have thrown in the PS3 version.

At least they cut the loadtimes in half, as yeah, that was probably my one big techinical gripe with 360 version. I could live with the framerate, though funny enough, I think the wonky framerate was due to their marginal Motionblur as when you turned it off in the PC version, the framerate pretty much doubled.

I bought the PC version of DR2, didn't play it much, since I was supposed to play through it co op with a friend, but we had troubles getting voice chat to work and he had troubles with windows live (not sure what the problem was again). And well, I would rather play as Frank West.

So if the framerate is fixed, I'd buy the new version on ps3.

So, the next episode will run at 20fps average as well? o_O

There is a reason I bought DR2 on pc and why I will buy Off The Record on PC as well, framerate. Sub 30fps is simply unacceptable. I also hope the menus are more responsive on consoles. They were terribly sluggish.

Man this game is so frustrating. Besides the framerate which is a huge frustration by itself the gameplay is frustrating as well. I just died twich after playing for 30 minutes or so, this mens more than an hour of playtime for the wastebin. If you don't have much time to play, this is annoying. Because in DR2 you don't die because of missing skill but you die because of engine lag or overpowered enemies. Second time I got caught by a psycho on the toilt and REALLY , I hadn't the slightest chance. He was like 50xtimes faster than me. What should I even do, I don't get it.

You're supposed to restart the game with all the new levels you've accumulated. You'll be bigger, stronger, and faster which allows you to finish missions quicker and take on bigger baddies. It's a foundation of the series. Also, you now know to not go into that particular bathroom for a little while ;)

But yea, the frame rate thing sucks, but I stopped noticing after a while unless it was especially bad (such as the bike boss)

I should restart the game? o_O Don't remember that I did this with DR1. TBH, I don't want to do that. Why should I play the game over and over before even finishing it once? Sounds like a stupid thing to do. o_O

Go for it. Getting a fresh start on the story and devising a better, more efficient plan for my next run in one of my favorite things about Dead Rising.

I think I mostly relied on his longer attack animations to hit him with a quick swipe from a nailbat or defiler. The boss fights, unfortunately, are one aspect DR2 that wound up kind of wonky compared to the original.

But I don't want to. I want to finish the game. There are so many good (read: better) games this fall that I don't want to spent my time starting one mediocre game over and over and over again.

I never had too much of a problem with the bosses, and never had to restart. Look for a co-op buddy if you really can't eek by. I would think there's still some people playing on Live.

Oh man, but restarting is the BEST PART!
Think of it like one of the timed levels in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, but longer and with zombies. You've only got so much time to run through it, but every trial is an opportunity to grab the collectibles, learn how to complete the secondary objectives, find where to score the most points, figure out what the fastest route is... I dunno, maybe I'm just weird. It is a rather eclectic form of gameplay.

lol, no it isn't, get away! ;D I don't want to invest 40 hours in a sub 25 FPS game. ;D
