How much time do you have to get everything in overtime? Want to try and level up some more first before the final battle

24 hours I think. The whole
nuclear strike thing
gets swept under the carpet/called off or something.

I don't think that's right. By the time I was done collecting everything the scoop bar hadn't even started going down.

Another quickie - I took too much time killing the green guy on the bike and run out of time mid-way through the 2-2 chase. If I reset, I keep all my stuff, but do I miss out on any sort of "completing the story on the first run" kinda stuff?

Edit: Well, don't keep Zombrex... even though I spent a metric fuckload of my winnings from TIR on it at the pawn shop. Fuck.

There are enough free zombrex in the mall to never need buy one from the pawn shop. Search google for "free zombrex locations".

earn about 50k in TIR, transfer it over then grab the 3 gambling magazines, in Ragazines (first mall upstairs), bingo place and Shamrock casino behind bar. go to the huge slot machine in the Slot Casino and keep betting 1k each time. you'll soon earn loads

Well I just complete DR2 and if it wasn’t for command and conquer 4 this would be the worse game I ever played.

I mean how the fuck do you mess up a sandbox game filled with zombies, well capcom show us how.

I don’t know what was worse the predictable story lines, the god awful boss fights or the way all the character left me with the feeling of needing a shower after they open their mouths.

And then just when you think it cant get any worse, they add a fetch quest in right at the end, that serve no purpose at all.

And best off all I got this on pc and I don’t think I can even sell it on =(

Did you play DR1?

If you didn't, then that's a fair opinion and the series just isn't for you.
If you played DR1 and you thought the change to DR2 was that bad then ummm sorry son you are crazy.

Got my £12.99 copy from Gameplay today. If not for the stupid wireless controller bug (which is easy enough to work around, still annoying), the PC port would be near faultless tbh. Getting rid of the ridiculous blur and not running at 20fps (like Case Zero) feels so much better.

Really plays great, and I like that random people just pop in to help me out in the campaign mode now and then. I'm going to concentrate on the story missions on this playthrough and then stock up with mods and go crazy messing around afterwards.

Such a shame that the two extra episodes are tied to a system that can't actually handle the engine. Well, at least they're not trapped on the PS3, now that would be inexcusable.

I think you should mess around till you get to lvl 5 or so and then start the story. Just get the lay of the land a bit.

I've had the game for a while now but had to finish some of my backlog first. I'm still a little reluctant to play it with the manual save system and having a 10 month old son to take care of. Sure, I can pause but still...

Another thing that seems daunting is the time limit. I'm always afraid that if i travel too far, I won't make it back to the safe zone and my daughter in time. What are the consequences? Just seems like a limiting design choice. Maybe I'm making it seem worse than it is?

Overall I have not regretted buying this game. I really need to go back to it at some point. Sadly it does not have replayability of DR1.

So dont go out too far? There are times where you will have plenty of time to do whatever you want.

Well I pretty much jumped straight into it. I'm upto the mission ~3-1 or something
Casino heist
and its the first one to cause me some problems. Going to have to get into the habit of saving mid-mission. You've really got to tackle the game with a different mindset to most other titles, I'm finding.

pssh, I pounded out two playthrough's before I got to the case files. I only did it because I wanted to fuck around for extra long, but by playthrough 3 the case files were super easy. I was like lvl 40 or so.

such an awesome game :)

Sadly it does not have replayability of DR1.

what does this even mean?

let me rephrase that...

does that even mean anything?

careful, B_stew, your xbox probably can't handle that many zombies at once

-gross looks like the player is using a keyboard for DR2

Yeah, that's definitely not my screen, wireless 360 controller all the way here.

My PC is a little bit faster than an Xbox, still, I'm not sure it can handle that many Zombies, I'm surprised the game doesn't crash.

Played TIR for the first time. So much fun. Apparently I'm a master at Shaft Master (har har) or whateverr it's called because I seem to know the button layouts far better than the competition and that was the only event i won.

I just downloaded a new patch for this game 5 minutes ago. Anybody know what it does?
Maybe it's getting things ready for Case West :D

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
So I just picked this up today, and DAMN is it hard to completely unlearn the way I've been taught to play video games over the past two decades. :lol And by that I mean not trying to do everything in one playthrough. See, the only Dead Rising I've played prior to this is the Wii version (which I loved, haters be damned) and I'm not used to the whole time limit thing. So after a few restarts, I've decided I'm just going to ignore the case files for my first playthrough and concentrate on survivors and psychopaths. That's a good tactic, right? By the time I'm done with my first playthrough I should be leveled up enough to tackle the case files with relative ease, correct?

Still, overall, really enjoying the game.

Should I buy the XBLA thing before playing?

How's the coop in this?

Picked it up on the Steam sale. No wireless controller support, WTF? It's GFW and steam says controller support, googling around says the devs overlooked the wireless support, lol. So where is the patch losers? I went through the hack method to get it working, game looks great in 1080P.

MS, how about making GFW "controller support" actually mean the most popular way of using it, the wireless method. Who uses the wired controller, it is discontinued AFAIK. MS dropped the ball (GFW = disaster) as did the devs.

The co-op is great. It's like having a second player right there sitting next to you playing.

Plus they can help you out with some of the tougher cases or boss fights.

That picture is a metaphor for me trying to get through the games I've bought through Steam over the last few sales.

Just use joy2key over m/kb settings. I haven't yet found a game that I haven't been able to shoehorn in controller support for.

Can anyone tell me how similar Dead Rising 2 is to the original? Regarding the save system, time limits, difficulty, etc.

I loved Dead Rising 1 (even though it was pretty damn stressful) and haven't done any research on the second one due to school. Thanks :D

I just picked it up yesterday and started playing it today. It's pretty similar to the first one: you still save in the bathrooms, and after every case file. The time limits seem a little more forgiving, but maybe that's because I'm at the beginning. I finished the first case with about 7 hours left, and now I'm running around doing side missions. I highly recommend DR2, it's a true sequel to the original with nothing but improvements.

The survivors are now capable of surviving on their own, for the most part. They even help! There may be a few people who enjoyed that challenge, but I personally hated escorting survivors in DR1 to the point where I'd avoid even doing it so it's really nice that in DR2 they can manage on their own aside from occasionally getting grabbed.

They still add a little challenge occasionally by forcing you to carry some survivors or push them in wheelchairs.

Although, if you find the right magazine, they become even smarter - some limpers will walk normally, for instance. And there are attacks you can use while holding some characters. Overall, much more manageable than in DR1.

Did the original allow you to save after every case file? Between that and the three save slots, much more manageable than the first game. (I think there are more washrooms this time too, or at least they are better placed...)

Yup, I rarely went out of my way to save anyone in DR1 because it was just annoying. In DR2 it's fun to give them weapons and create a mob of zombie murder.

Picked this up in the Steam sale, man I am totally hooked. I really wanted it after playing Case Zero but I was dead set on the PC version @ $20, so I am happy Gabe helped me out.

Are there any more effective ways to level other than escorting survivors? It gets to be a pain in the ass once psychopaths start to show up, especially bike dude.

I'm at level 11 now, I plan on getting to at least 25 before taking the story seriously.

Also, Blanka mask FTW.

I would just play the campaign. Having a good weapon is far more important than how strong you are with it. (always have some defilers and claw gloves also blam bows do pretty good dmg)

Just got this game today. Played Dead Rising 1 and beat it on my first playthrough, as well as doing overtime. I don't really want to do that this time, I would enjoy exploring and just having fun/leveling up first.

Question is: Is it doable to just explore/level up first playthrough and then in the second playthrough (or whenever I plan to restart) just focus on the cases?

And, can I get to overtime mode without saving ANY survivors? Just doing the cases, one after the other

Yes. In this game, you can actually continue on even if you fail to complete a case.

and

Yes! Although it may be a little harder to get through without leveling up a bit.

oh i know. Been PC gaming a long time. Just hate seeing this kid's table bullshit on my primary gaming platform. Last GFWL game for me. Client doesn't even work outside of the game.

So... is Case West worth a look?

Finished it yesterday. It's an epilogue, through and through, so it's a must-play for fans of the series.

Also, it "corrects" a lot of things that people dislike about the full games: you don't have to escort survivors anywhere, just save them; coop makes sense now, since one person controls Frank; the psychopath fight is actually challenging and fun, not cheap.

so....any straightforward way to get a gamepad actually working for the pc version besides the wired 360 controller and luck? seems like there is a lot of problems out there none of which have been patched (i've been trying for about an hour to get my ps3 controller emulating 360 working but no luck, win7 64bit, no problems running any other game that requires 360 controller)?

360 exclusive, yeah? No PC port?

I got this game through Steam and it took me about an hour to get it started because of all of the gfwl hoops I had to jump through. After all of Microsoft's talk of redoubling their efforts in the pc space I have to say they should probably just throw in the towel. Having to run their client and the Steam client at the same time just draws so much attention to how amateur hour gfwl is.
