Go on, don't stop there, explain your "everything i need to know for your comparison" part. Don't be shy, i am listening.
Re4 is an action game, it borrowed the franchise name, some characters and ginmicks, but I consider this game "resident evil" as much as I consider Final Fantasy 16 a FF game , so if you say that Re4 is your favorite "RE game" its easy to understand why you also think Dead Space is better than RE overall... but Dead Space is much better than RE4, in this we can easily agree.

Maybe I could say DS1 is the best survival horror-TPS hybrid and I loved it (the original, not interested in the remake). But as a TPS, REmake 4 is superior and even I have my doubts with the original (yes, the original Island was a decline). As a survival horror game? Hell, no, the original psx trilogy and the first two remakes are far better.

Superior gunplay? Which gunplay? All you have are weird tools that you have to use in weird ways to hit enemies on weird spots.
Playing resident evil one on the original ps controller felt better than playing deadspace.

The game has you playing asteroids! Worst way to do a silent protagonist I ever saw. But the zero g sections are excellent. It's a good game, but there is a reason 2 entries was all it took to go under.

Dead Space was interesting for me, but the repetitive jumpscares got old really fast and I didn't care about the story and characters.

After I played the Dead Space demo on the ps3 I thought that I would love the game... But in the end I pre ordered it and ended up never finishing it.

So I rather play again any main and most RE side games than going back to Dead Space.

I love the Resident Evil games, for me Resident Evil 2 Remake is just perfect and whoever says otherwise is just wrong in my opinion. I also love RE3R, which I agree that is quite flawed, but is probably my favorite game on the genre.

The irony is, both games being about the dead, Deadspace is quite literally as good as dead, it'll take the fans or some sort of "un-official" revival to bring it back, yet Resident Evil continues to go on..

I wouldn't say it's better than every RE game. But it's certainly better than some RE games.

As a horror game, however, Dead Space fucking smashes every RE.

Resident. evil, 1-3, for me, were some of the greatest games ever made. Dead space was awesome, too, but not better than RE 1-3. But capcom can fuck off with first person.

Only played the Dead Space Remake (without experiencing original) but I think the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 3 Remake edge it out for me. The more I try going back to the Resident Evil 4 Remake the less I like it so I would likely have a better time replaying Dead Space Remake. The gameplay is amazing in it but the plot and environments are too devoid of anything that sticks with you in a positive way. I think Dead Space 2 is better in those regards and feels closer to BioShock with necromorphs. It is a bit heavy narratively though and I like my B-horror popcorn plots. Dead Space 2 is better when I am in the mood for something with emotional weight.

TLDR: Dead Space 2 is better when I am in the mood for it but good Resident Evil is like comfort food.

I like RE1 for its atmosphere and interconnectivity of the environments you unravel etc. (I like how 7 tried to do this, it generally succeeded but the mold enemies were eh), and RE4 the most for the action (specially on Wii). Dead Space is solid but not really like either style to claim it improves on it.

I wonder if Capcom could somehow go back to zombies or find some other not tacky way like mold/las plagas to make the antagonists not so over the top and silly as they've become (even if that all started with RE4 as good as it was). I guess not without a complete reboot retconning everything.

I wouldn't really compare the two games. RE I like mostly for the puzzles and exploration, or the arcadey combat in 4 and 6. Dead Space has a great UI and more visceral gore / body horror.

If you insist on comparing the two, I consider RE4 one of the best games ever made and REmake1 is up there somewhere. I'd probably put REmake2 over Dead Space as well, but I'm unsure. I need to play the new Dead Space remake and it's been a while. I enjoyed it at the time.

While I love some of thr RE games (1, 2, and 5 the most), I have enjoyed Dead Space more than all of them. It became a Halloween ritual for me for many years. The original game scaled really well on PC so I just kept playing it.

Some aspects of the remake didn't feel as good as the original (Navid Negahban as Mercer was perfect), but overall I really like having a modern updated version of the game. I'll be revisiting it regularly when I need the gaming equivalent of comfort food.

Time to roast OP. I jest.

Dead Space 1 and 2 are VERY good games. One of the best in genre. However, I don't think it holds a candle to the original RE, Code Veronica, RE4. It comes very close though.

I've replayed the GameCube version of RE4 more than the entire Dead Space franchise combined. Never mind the PS2, Wii, PC and VR versions. Can say the same about at least half the RE games. They're just more fun to play, replay and speedrun.

Exactly.

It is good, but as long as Fatal Frame (new game and/or remasters when???) Silent Hill and Resident Evil exist, it will never be top dog, let alone top three. Also, bring back Haunting Ground ya bastards!

I always hated the resident evil games as a kid and found them incredibly lackluster compared to the silent hill games. But now I look back and appretiate them a lot more as an adult. Not sure if it's just nostalgia goggles or that horror games are just shitty jump scarefests now or what..

For me the modern RE games are far superior though. RE4Make is imo the best RE game there is, I know most will disagree though. Followed closely by RE7, I really loved the texas chainsaw massacre style house of horror vibe they went for. My wife and I replayed it multiple times, I just don't really consider it a 'true' RE game if that makes sense. The survival horror aspect is all but gone.

I played through RE4R and Dead Space Remake over the last year.
I enjoyed both but overall had more fun with RE4. The wider variety of locations and scenarios do a lot to make RE4 more engaging IMO, the locations and overall gameplay structure start to get get pretty samey and repetitive around the halfway point of Dead Space IMO.

RE4 edges it out for me, the gameplay mechanics and pacing are just better. RE4 just has the most satisfying weapons of all-time, much more variation in the boss fights, enemy types, and encounter design. But Dead Space is certainly number two, and more unique in that there are far less good sci-fi horror games than there are good zombie horror games. They are both 10s.

OG RE4 > REmake 2 = OG Dead Space = DS2 > Dead Space Remake > REmake 4 > RE5 > RE6
You know what, I can't be mad. I respect your placement of 4R, too. That gets far too much undue love. Dead Space 1 was bloody good and although I haven't played the remake I can confidently say it's inherently better than the worst OTS RE games. 3R didn't even make the list, which I find hilarious.

Also a fair statement. I can't be mad at this either. Dead Space 1 was the first game that made me turn around from the ambient sound effects because I thought something was coming for me. The atmosphere in that game surpasses anything RE has done before or since, and RE is my favourite franchise of all time.

RE4 is one of the greatest games of all time, and it's perhaps the most influential third person game ever.

It still manages to suprise even after decades.

On professional mode it's basically a souls game before it was cool. xD

Dead space is as good as a single section of RE4, at most.
