Dead Space 3 demo available for 360 and PS3

You think the DS3 demo represents any kind of horror? Anywhere remotely close to the atmosphere of 1?

Did the demo of Dead Space 1 even do that? None of the demos of any of these games have been good at getting horror across, since they're half hour long snippets of bits of the game stitched together.

The DS1 demo was horrific, but not in a good way. It was the most shootbangy, non-horror thing evar. Waaaay worse than the DS3 demo in that regard.

Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games this generation.

I very much enjoy the game design, and the art just seals the deal for me. The art design is just delicious, and so well thought out. Too many games just don't have the quality and cohesiveness of art direction that Dead Space obviously does. Really excited to see where DS3 takes me this time.

I'm going to skip the demo, as I'm already buying the game, and I'd rather go in fresh.

Any word on PS3 vs 360 performance?

I dont think we're going to get any info on that until the game is out. As for the demo, i wouldnt comment on it because the code may not be as optimized as the full version.

Chances are its down to either controller preference or whether or not you've played Mass Effect 3 to get the bonus skin.

I didn't suffer any control problems other people were mentioning, though I am playing the first one for the first time right now and got mixed up on reload/health buttons.

Thought it was neat. While I do not particularly enjoy the ammo being reduced to "Ammo Clip", I can gloss over it.

The weapon crafting system is a bit intricate for me and I probably won't mess with it much, but that's my choice and not a criticism of it being in the game.

I guess I am a sucker for the more flashy setpieces since they did not bother me. Strangely enough it was the reveal of Dead Space 3 and it's art/setting that got me interested in the series to begin with.

All in all, I'm excited.

I enjoyed the demo, i think I'll pick this up at launch.
Previously this game was flying under my radar for some reason.
Even though i loved Dead Space 1 & 2.

The previous games performed about the same on both consoles. I remember it being pretty big for the first one, since most multiplatform games suffered a bit on the PS3.

Controller preference should be your deciding factor. Personally, I prefer the 360 controller. I recently played DS2 on the PS3 and found it hard to adjust.

Yep. The art style is simply fantastic. I love the clean look to the games.

Enjoyed most of the demo, but there are a few things that I didn't like very much:
-Shooting humans feels lame, as well as the "cover" system.
-Enemies are now bullet sponges, desmembering is pretty much pointless now.
-Couldn't care less for the new "make your gun" feature.

Aside from that, it feels like Dead Space and I'll probably get it.

Just tried the demo and I'm a little bit confused. Probably mentioned a dozen times but there is something terribly wrong with the iron-sight (L1) movement. It's way too fast; even faster than sprinting. So the actual sprint button is L1, not L2.

I know that there have been human enemies, but for the most part you weren't actively fighting them. The only time I can really recall being shot at during the previous two games from humans was the security crew in the sprawl trying to take you down, and you weren't expected to fight back against them and the guy who shot you with the rivet gun towards the end.

My point was that Isaac's narrative has been leading up to a confrontation with the Unitologists, and the fact that they are in DS3 as a 3rd faction of sorts makes sense.

I'm curious if Lexine Murdoch will be showing up in the main game or if she will be part of DLC like Severed.

I played the demo last night and thought it was more of the same stuff having played DS and DS2. However, the cover system, crouching, and rolling felt tacked on and unnecessary. I mean all Isaac does is place his arms on top of a box which doesn't even feel like cover.

It almost seems like this game wants to target Resident Evil 6 (sans the cool rolling/sliding mechanic) and TPS fans by adding those 3 abilities in. I have yet to play it on co-op but I'm the type of person that likes to beat the game solo first before thinking about doing it in co-op (nothing against co-op being in the game; I suppose it's better than having a MP that most people won't bother playing).

I also don't really care about the weapon crafting system and won't see myself getting into it unless it's for achievements. I liked the previous games' weapons as is (The Javelin Gun was bad ass); it seems like the game just has more loot/collectables to pick up as a result.

It feels like a lot of things from the previous 2 games have been streamlined such as upgrading weapons; I really miss the Power node system. It seems that power nodes are only for suit upgrades now. The monster closet scares at this point feel like they've gotten old; I'm hoping there's some better designed scares in the final game.

To echo what everyone else said, enemies are definitely more bullet spongy in this game. I can understand why you can only carry 2 weapons in the demo. It's supposed to be so that the player can experiment them. I'm sure in the final game 4 weapons will be the max once again (or at least with suit upgrades).

I feel indifferent to the universal ammo. It just means the weapons feel more like guns and less like engineering tools that have been re-purposed for combat. I suppose it's nice not to have to worry about micromanaging ammo for guns.

Overall, I thought it was ok. It's more Dead Space with popular TPS mechanics/abilities, a loot system for weapon crafting, a layer of Lost Planet thrown in for good measure, and co-op. I won't be getting it any time soon since I'm not really excited for it. If anything, unlocking the N7 armor for having Mass Effect 3 saved data is nice. I hope there's rewards for having DS1 and DS2 save data as well.

The only problem I had with humans as enemies is that they seemingly completely ignore the necromorphs running about attacking them face to face and decided to concentrate on Isaac, was it just me or did that happen in other peoples demo?

I'm glad i'm not the only one that noticed enemies take a dozen hits till they die. It's awful.

I only played through once, but the humans in my demo seemed much more interested in the Necros munching on their faces. I barely got shot at.

Strange, I'll give it another go at some point, I thought it was odd at the time as they seemed to completely ignore them like they weren't there.

I thought maybe it was because I played in co-op or that maybe my memory only remembers the weapons by the end of DS1/2 at which point they cut through necromorphs like a hot knife through butter, but I too thought they didn't really do much damage, aiming for the limbs didn't seem to be as effective as previous games as much as I tried to shoot off some arms.

Did not care for the demo on PS3. Very bland looking environments, no real scares, QTE filler, muddy looking graphics, weird mini boss battles. Nothing like the original, which was fantastic

That giant necromorph running away seemed really weird, especially since I didn't think I did enough damage to it. When it started to move away from me I thought it was gearing up to charge at me but it just retreated suddenly.

Yeah the graphics look really blurry. Dead Space 2 looked sharp in comparison.

Are they using a different engine?

Anyone know how many discs the 360 version will be? Performance for DS2 was identical on both but I went for PS3 since it was on a single disk. Prefer the 360 for controller and party chat though.

Was just watching a co-op preview Gamespot did and I really think it's going to change how you experience the game. In a great way, mind you. For example, Carver might be hallucinating something and sort of gets trapped in his own mind, and Isaac is left to defend him from attacking Necromorphs. It's a really neat concept that I think will warrant multiple playthroughs.

I've got my good friend on board and we are both picking it up on launch day. Consider me on the hype train, I can't wait.

Loved the first two games - at the moment, nothing about DS3 is intriguing me. I will play it, but I'm not chomping at the bit for day 1.

Am I the only one that had trouble reading the on-screen text? My eyesight isn't perfect but some of it was really tiny on my 42". Also the menus were rather unintuitive, especially the crafting, hard to make out what was going on. I hope I don't have to touch that too often in the final game. The rest was good, had no trouble with the drill for example, but playing Coop felt... wrong, even though I played with someone who took it seriously.

If anyone is wondering about strength of weapons, boot up the weapon crafting on demo and it takes you to a separate room. You can experiment with different upgrades and kill some necromorphs with them, I upgraded a plasma cutter and it was bad ass.

Why oh why did they put cover shooting in the game, it's just soooo boring.

The only positive note I can say is the setting is still great, it's just a shame they based an action game around it and not horror.

They should have taken influence from the The Thing videogame that was released in 2002, then they would have something special on thier hands.

I really liked the first two games but this demo did nothing for me. I was kind of bored most of the time. The weapon crafting seems convoluted and more complex than it really needed to be. Looks like they really want you to pay some money on it. The human enemies are uninteresting and the cover system is poor and unneeded. Also while playing alone my partner just shows randomly up during a cutscene while I have not heard or seen him in awhile. If it's like this it is pretty clear that this was created as a coop game. Another thin I don#t really wanted out of Dead Space.

Well, not really feeling this one.

I loved DS1 and while I was initially pretty annoyed with the last parts of DS2, I still think it was a great game. I have gone back to it, and it's a very good game. It's action horror. But it's moving more and more toward action, DS2 fortunately wasn't too far to ruin it. Though it was closing in on that near the end.

This DS3 demo didn't do anything positive for me outside of some environmental/graphical stuff. When I opened the inventory and saw "ammo clip".... yeah... smh.

Then you have this roll mechanic that kinda looks like shit and wtf does it even do? Didn't help in any of my fights. They also nerfed the spread even more on the plasma cutter.

Idk... I guess they want to make it even more shootbang. DS demos usually aren't the best indicators of how the game will end up. So I'll reserve judgement until I play it. But this will not be a Day1 game after that demo, and after seeing the changes they've made. Like every other dev that has created IP's I was once really into, they appear to be changing the wrong shit and really moving away from what I originally liked about their games.

Its funny how some ps3 owners are going apeshit cause they had to wait a week for a demo. Dude go outside and see the sun. Take a break and have a nice conversation with your mom or something.

Just tried the demo. Huge fan of the series, but kind of hated the last part of 2.
Anyway, it played like the Dead Space i love, which is good, Drill Room was pretty fun to do.
Crafting weapon system is pretty awesome and fits well in the series.
Things i didn't like
-Only 2 weapon slots?
-Universal ammo?
-Humans shooting at you.
I'm not sure i'm getting it day 1, the game looks and plays like i want to minus the stuff i mentioned, but i hate the whole microtransactions.

What are the up and down directional buttons used for in Single Player? We should be able to put a couple of weapons in there if they aren't used for anything else.

Like I said when I mentioned necromorphs taking more hits, I wouldn't be surprised if people just remember weapons like the plasma cutter when they are fully upgraded from the end of DS1/2 rather than how they are at the beginning.
I had completely missed the weapon demo room thing though, it will be interesting seeing what weapon people end up making as the go to weapon, or if it will just end up being an uberplasma cutter again, lol.

I don't think I've seen any proper ones besides just eyes on from the demo, but Visceral have always been great about keeping general parity across platforms so DS3 is probably no different.

I did a run through both, and came away a bit more impressed with the 360 version (shame since I'm purchasing the PS3 version). PS3 is a bit more washed out, open areas have better lighting, and the interior areas are way too bright. For example, the shack where you get the snow suit looks like it's on fire before starting the generator, despite the 360 demo having the room as fairly dark. Oddly enough, other dark interiors like the drill room didn't differ at all.

Both look great (same engine as DS2, not Frosbite 2 like it was rumored ages ago), but the PS3 needed a bit more work as far as interiors were concerned. My suspicion is that since this is the E3 build from last year, this isn't going to be an issue in the final version. Just expect typical wash-out quality that's common in PS3 ports and less rich colors in the 360.

CVG did a comparison, though it doesn't note the areas I described.

What are the up and down directional buttons used for in Single Player? We should be able to put a couple of weapons in there if they aren't used for anything else.

I'm not sure if down on the D-pad is used, but up is the scavenger bot.

Visceral confirmed on Reddit a few days ago that it's 2 weapons only.

I am counting down the hours, though the one area that has not really improved much for me so far is the graphics. Maybe I need to jump back into DS2 for perspective? The PS3 seemed slightly more detailed, as least as far as the Arctic Survival Suit, otherwise about the same.

I didn't know two weapons was a keeper. I was hoping for more.

Big party when dudebro and shootbang fall out of favor as soft go to dismissives.

Played through the demo on PS3 up until I got killed at the drill room

Damn this game is beautiful, love the snow planet setting, reminded me a bit of Prometheus crossed with The Thing. Several moments I stood and stared at the screen, amazed at how far this machine has come since launch. It doesn't look that far off a lot of things that are being floated for next gen, which makes me wonder what those games will look like in 5 years.

I'm trying to kill off my backlog so I don't think I'll be getting this, but I'll keep it in mind for down the line.

What exactly does the classic mode change? Do we just buy the classic weapons/does that change the number of weapon slots?/does it even make changes on that level?
