Dead Space 3 demo available for 360 and PS3

It's kinda funny how the main character is just a normal dude who goes through so much shit over the course of these games. Is he even an engineer anymore? Each game should have had a new protagonist, instead of the same guy becoming a savior three times.

I played around in the weapon crafting room for about an hour yesterday, and that is surely to be one of the highlights of the game for me.

I crafted a dual plasma cutter essentially, with equal parts plasma cutter on top and bottom, and simply switch firing the top to firing the bottom when one would run out of ammo. It sounds ridiculous but it actually worked quite well as you can go 20+ shots without having to reload.

I also found a solid weapon combo I really do like. Military Grade Engine with the semi-auto assault rifle tip/tool with the secondary attachement that shoots out a "Kinect Blast" (can't remember the name). It is a beast at picking off limbs at range, and if they try and rush you you can blast them back and clean them up. Also works with the Spike shotgun attachment. It is a really great setup.

What exactly does the classic mode change? Do we just buy the classic weapons/does that change the number of weapon slots?/does it even make changes on that level?

So in Classic mode, the aiming mechanic is set permanently to the classic option (DS1 aiming as opposed to DS2/DS3). You are also locked into solo mode, so no co-op.

The weapons you have access to in the game are the classic DS1 guns, such as the Plasma Cutter, Force Gun, Ripper, etc (no Javelins or shotguns). Therefore, the crafting system is limited to the blueprints of those weapons and of course regular resources such as ammo and health.

I am not aware if the scavenger bot has been removed from Classic mode to make room for 2 more weapons, and is a question I'll pose to some of the guys at Visceral (GAF lurking devs feel free to cut in). To me it would make sense since it is a staple of past DS games, but that's not a detail that was released.

What is the difficulty comparable to in classic mode?

Play with a Javelin/rivet shotgun combo w/stasis attachments, and make yourself a rocket launcher.

They need to have the weapon crafting room from the demo in the full game. There's just too much to rely on progressing the game itself and relying on those resources that I need to manage.

Cool, thanks for the info. So do you find these blueprints like the old games or are they already on the bench system? Also, do you remain with universal ammo or have they went in and gave you the old varied ammo to compliment the guns? Cheers!

In general I like what I'm hearing about classic at least but it's disappointing you have to play through first to get the mode, it knocks down the helpfullness of such a mode by a fair bit. They recognise some might want to play closer to the original games but will make you play the way you're not keen on first for 20hrs? Bleh. Excited in general though, of course.

I'm afraid to buy it because EA games drop in price like stones...and also because I heard a rumor it might get a next gen version.

Some are already pre-loaded into the bench's blueprint storage, such as the plasma cutter. Others have to be found in-game as you would in the past installments.

Ammo clips remained from what I remember, but I'll try to follow up on that. Personally, and I being a bit of a stickler on change, don't miss the individual ammunition names. As you're playing you don't really think on it.

Same with the new combat. The first chapter throws you right in the thick of it, but it plays very well and works better than what was in the E3 demo that this thread pertains to. You just end up forgetting about all the predispositions and enjoy the experience.

Y2Kev, wasn't that part of the Frostbite 2 engine rumor?

I'll double dip if it gets a next gen version.
Wondered if this was going to happen, since Mass Effect 3 and Batman hit wii u. Older games on newer console.

He's an engineer by trade, but he hasn't worked since the first game really but I imagine does between the second and third, but his skills are suppose to be the reason you can do and use half the stuff in the games.

And Isaac is hardly a saviour, of the two games only in DS2 did anyone survive, one with him and only a few more on their own, and the only reason he had to "save the day" in the second one was because they used him to create the Marker that ended up killing everyone and he needed to destroy it to sever his link.

As opposed to the first two game he purposely gets into it for DS3, he's there to stop EarthGov and Unitoligists using and building the markers, he isn't the first person in the lore to do so either. And personally I am fine following one person across the games so far, he has a backstory that ties in with everything, and reasons for being there as opposed to us just getting game after game of just playing some random person always being in the middle of an outbreak.

There's always the Severed DS2 DLC if you want to play as someone else I guess, lol.

And spoilers for ME3 and AC3 endings in regards to DS3's ending. I hope
they don't end up killing off Isaac at the end, I'm getting tired of games having the protagonist die at the end of a series this generation, more so when its in some bs way that ends up being in no way deep or emotional, I don't need a happy go lucky unicorn flying over a rainbow ending, but I sure don't want a shitty one.

Ah, I know. I realise they can still play with you on pure ammo quantities, but now it's just ammo is low, before it could be "ammo is low for this gun, so now I've got to switch to this. This area, I could really have done with gun a's function so I'll need to be careful with that if I come across more" and so on. Now we can only really be fine on ammo, or low, rather on a weapon to weapon basis. From the demo I reckon I'm going to enjoy though, just a few reservations like that.

No, although I wish we thought of that. We were really busy/tired, I blame fatigue!

Interesting. Haven't thought about that.

Well, my friend and I are both stoked to play it through a bunch on the various difficulties, so I'm going to keep my pre-order. But I'd love to see it get some graphical love for next gen. It looks great as it is, but add some DX11 effects and lighting enhancements and DS3 could look fantastic on next gen.

Also - I'm currently at the nursery on my DS2 playthrough. I still can't handle it.

Classic aiming is always available and you're free to restrict yourself however you want. To be honest we did wrestle some with unlocks, there are quite a few really good ones and one amazing one that is how I will want to play. Unfortunately I'm going to have to unlock it like everyone else.

Agreed. On all fronts.

When you think about it, the weapons crafting actually makes sense. We got to see his engineering skills in DS2, not so much in DS1, and they're even more at the forefront here.

I kind of liked the crafting in the demo... I don't know if it was worth the universal ammo trade, but maybe it will be. It probably will be.

Honestly, in most serious DS playthroughs I only use one weapon, which makes almost all ammo drops seem universal anyway.

But I do not like collecting a bunch of grindy bullcrap all over the place to craft weapons. I don't know if there's a better way to do it, so I certainly can't hold it against the game for being in there, but I personally don't like picking up all that stuff all over. Some of the core parts would be fine... for example I loved the nodes in previous games. They were very important, and you had to keep an eye out for them, and use them wisely. This new stuff here is pushing mindless collectathon... and it clutters things up in hectic fights. Bunch of (at that moment) useless crap lying around when you just need ammo or stasis.

Minor quibble... but from the demo, crafting was probably the best part, unfortunately having to gather tons of shit to do it was kind of annoying. (especially on replays :()

By NG+ mode, do you mean that it is a mode that becomes available after your first playthrough or that it is literally NG+ like in DS2 where you can take over stuff from your previous playthrough?

Plasma cutter and force gun. I have never used any of the other weapons for my playthroughs (only for the achievements^^).

I watched this one Korean guy rock shit with the javelin... and ever since that has been my DS2 weapon. lol

DS1 I too use just the plasma cutter and occasionally the forcegun.

If you don't mind answering, any chance of more Dead Space lore in other mediums hitting regardless of game releases?

If DS3 does do well enough to allow a future game on next-gen platforms I imagine the time gap will be much longer than what we have had already between games, and personally I quite like the universe from the games/novels and find it to be one of the better realised this generation.
So assuming you guys haven't decided to end the series with DS3 any chance for some more novels etc.?

/begging, lol.

Because you can combine two weapons into one. So while you're carrying two weapons, you may actually be carrying 4 in functionality. If they kept the 4 weapon system with the crafting, you'd be carrying up to 8 weapons, which wouldn't be balanced in a game like Dead Space.

Reddit comment from Dino Ignacio of Visceral games: http://www.reddit.com/r/DeadSpace/c..._very_stoked_but_just_one_thing_is_on/c82gm8a

That's actually not quite true though. In DS1 and 2 each weapon has a primary and secondary function. In this, you just get to customize what the primary and secondary functions are.

So it's still half the weapons, you just get more flexibility on what those two weapons are.

You are correct about the former games, but in this game it's not quite just a minor alt. function, but two entirely different guns slapped together with variable functions that can be attached to change everything.

But the flexibility is amazing and I'm quite impressed.

They just separated every gun's primary and secondary functions though. It's still really just one gun that you can choose whatever you want the primary and secondary functions to be. Like you can have a Line Gun with a Force Gun alt, but then you give up the Line Gun's original alternate fire in exchange.

The amount of tweaking options are impressive though.

Will all my progress be tied to one profile or will individual difficulty settings/modes have their own separate saves? I'm wondering if I'm halfway through newgame+ and a friend wants to play co-op, will I have to start fresh with them or can I take my sp guy with me and go back to where I was in sp after the co-op session is done.

Would one of those even make sense?

I mean, as far as I can tell, it's a DirectX 9 game with no DX11 render pipeline, the art assets aren't super amazing in resolution, and it's releasing in a few days, so it's not like it benefits from being on two more platforms near simultaneously despite having very little benefit from the next-gen consoles.

The only way I can see this happening is if it's a Dead Space Trilogy pack.

Your game and the co-op game are completely separated, which is nice. Part of the reason was of course to allow folks to be able to jump into a chapter you haven't been to yet if your partner is further ahead and invites you. You can have multiple saves as in past games.

I agree.

Next gen version of Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite make sense, their PC counterparts are significantly more advanced than what we will get on 360 and PS3, while Dead Space 3 on PC doesn`t offer better art assets or additional graphical options (apart of resolution and frame rate).

Oh mama, there goes my platinum trophy.

I'm almost at the end in DS2 and I can't even finish that because I ran out of ammo and the enemies just keep spawning, finished DS1 though.

But will buy it day 1 anyway, love DS and the added coop is more incentive, just played the demo with my coop partner in crime, SOLD.
Unfortunately this seems like it will be the first coop game where we don't get the platinum trophy :/

Perhaps Origin free trials will end up being the answer for console port teams. Kind of a cool idea because progress will transfer if the player buys the full version and it reduces work for teams because they won't have to make and QA stand-alone demos.

That and players who play the previous games on other systems or have another EA game tied promotionally to the game can then all be factored into the Origin account, instead of by game save data only.

I don't care much for DRM, but taking full advantage of the program to offer incentives to consumers in such a way would definitely help image.

In DS2... only equip one (powerful) weapon. If you get a kill stomp on the corpse. This should give you ammo for that weapon. Also, try using environmental objects and kill necros with kinesis. Save ammo, and those kills are real powerful. Then stomp them to get your ammo for the one weapon you're holding. You should at least be able to finish the game.

Personally I disliked the demo. Again it proves to me that another series that was founded on horror is going in a different direction. I skipped DS2 because of word of mouth of my peers but after playing the demo I am going to snatch up the second and give it a shot. Not because I enjoyed it but I hate it when people bash something they have never played. I dont want to be a hypocrite. But if the demo is any indication its not a horror title any longer. Mind you Dead Space was my personal game of the year. So wish me luck GAF.

k, will try that. I really want to finish DS2 before the new game releases, it's just something that bothers me.
Problem is, I'm really low on everything and I'm in a really narrow hallway and the only light is the light of my weapon and the enemies attack from front and back :/ I tried that sequence over and over again, no dice.

Yeah the game is real mean at times... just wait lol.

Stasis is your best friend when things get really rough... hopefully you spent some nodes upgrading the rig's stasis module throughout the game.

Yea, DS2 alone would leave someone with severe mental issues alone. . . kinda like that trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDBRcPTHKcU

But yet here he is again slogging it through another nightmare.

Another protip is to just stasis and run past guys Alan Wake style.

Just spent the night going through the first 5 chapters of dead space 2 passing the pad with my friend who's going to coop dead space 3 with me. Gotta say at least, those changes have got him onboard. He maintains he cannot do dead space alone so we're just doing it this way haha. How amazing is the first third of DS2 though? Starting in the straight jacket, all the way up to the top of the unitology church and what happens up there, sooooo good. Regardless how 3 turns out, 2 is easily one of the finest games this gen. Perfectly paced, so many levels of tension, love it.

(This is a replay for me btw, his first time, I just wanted to bring up how good it still is)

Yeah, Dead Space 2 was one of my favorite games this gen. It's kind of unfortunate the changes implemented for Dead Space 3 deflated my enthusiasm for the game but hopefully the final product isn't as bad as what I think it is now.

Failing that, I hope I get a good ending for Isaac. Let's see if Dead Space 3 manages to become one of the few 3rd installments that doesn't ruin its ending. ME3 and AC3 certainly failed.

Yeaaaa, I mean, I'm at peace with the fact that I don't think the *mythology* aspect to the dead space universe has legs, and I doubt the answers to the marker are far outside of the realm of the usual kind of stuff you'd see in prometheus, or the halo/mass effect stuff we've seen executed pretty badly as of late, but they've had a real nice grip on the characters so far, and as long as we get an engaging conclusion to Isaac and his journey and what he's taken from it, I'll be pleased.

In my opinion in the space corridor sections we have the best content we have ever made. If you like DS2 I think you'll be really happy with DS3.
