Not since Makai Wars got canned.

I thought that was not offical yet, just an email posted on gamefaqs

seriously, is there even anything interesting being announced for PSP?

Sadly, no. Not yet at least. That's why I'm taking my time on buying games instead of getting all of the ones I am interested in up front. E3 should bring some good news I'd imagine.

No, it's official which is why I bumped the thread. IGN confirmed with NIS that Makai Wars is not and will not be in development in the forseeable future.

i'm keeping my signed copy of Lumines, but i'm actually tring to trade my PSP for a Drumset on craigslist

WTF, did they photoshop him onto another screen?
You know... when you make an animation for something in a game, and you screen capture it at the same moment it will look the same. It's not like there are 1000 different animations for each thing.

Looks generic as hell. Enough with over using lightining effects damnit!

Edit: Wow, Tenchi no Mon looks hot! When is it out?
And there's also Hot Shots Golf which will rock and I'm sure more good japanese titles will come to the US.

Tenchi No Mon is published by Capcom right ? Perhaps I'll take a look when it's released. So far, from the upcoming releases, the most interesting is Shoutoukou.

Looks very good btw (DTR).

Nope. Published by Sony Japan, developed by Climax.

The game itself isn't to exciting, but it suggests there is going to be a quick upswing in PSP graphics for the post launch fall/Christmas lineup. I think we will see a lot of great stuff at E3 when the Capcoms, Namcos, and Konamis start to flex a little more out of the machine.

Isn't there 2 different Climax companies? (kind of like how there's 2 different companies named Monolith)

Like, one from the UK who made Sudeki, and a Japanese one who made Alundra, Climax Landers, and Landstalker (which kicked so much ass).

I hope it's the latter :P

Jarrod... where are you? :lol

Your rather particular interest in games doesn't make for an especially compelling commentary on the general state of the game library for brand new hardware.

Yep. Climax Studios (UK) and Climax Entertainment (JP), Tenchi no Mon coming from the latter. :)

one doth not have to look further than the franchise laden release-list. c'mon, what happened to "it's always a great time to introduce new IPs at the launch of a system because the early adopters are open to new experiences" ????

Is this a direct port of Dead to Rights 2?

With the PSP around now it's weird having to decide between the console and handheld version.

Graphically identical and probably about the same price.

What happened to allowing time for a new system to build up a diverse library? There have been a few new IPs already, with more to come, but seeing as you only seem to care about ONE of them, the only thing you seem to be exposing here is your bandwagon buying habits :P

if what you mean by diverse is rehashes of console games...

What do you expect from a handheld that shares many similarities hardware-wise with the PS2, and is less than six months old? Add to that the fact that most of the gamers are of excellent quality, and the fact that some of the ports, like EA Sports, you could see coming anyways.

If you can show me a contemporary game platform that doesn't derive a significant portion of its library from rehashed content and/or pre-existing IPs, then I might begin to see why you're calling out the PSP in particular for this.

You're surprised that in the first few months time of a handheld that has strong ties in branding and image to it's console cousin that many of the IP's that are first coming out for it also have ties to said console's titles...

Wow... Einstein is you.

I may have to bust out the THUG 2 pics again. Don't make me do it!

I can't wait to see how the PSP blossoms over the years! :D

I'm a total Dead To Rights whore. But I'm concerned with this. When in the hell did the game get a SCORE SYSTEM? I don't want to worry about numbers. The interface is already filling up enough of the screen.

If I had to guess I'd say these screenshots that have the score in them are perhaps part of a sub-mini game that has you passing your PSP around to see who can get the best scores... NFSUR has a similar type of gameplay mode.

If they aren't....woah.

Probably retooling the game for PSP. PSP can't stream data as of now so pehaps Namco has turned the game into a stage based, arcade style experience with a scoring system.

You post like you have no sense of history. My fault for giving you any credit.

at least Popolocrois is confirmed...technically a new IP for the US release even though the series has been out in japan for 1 million years

Namco Announces Dead to Rights: Reckoning for PSP

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (April 13, 2005) - Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today "Dead to Rights: Reckoning" for the PSP portable entertainment system. Delivering the series' trademark nonstop, hard-boiled action and a gritty cop storyline, "Dead to Rights: Reckoning" is planned for release on the PSP in the summer of 2005.

"Dead to Rights: Reckoning" returns to crime-infested Grant City, as an important informant is kidnapped on the eve of the investigation of a major crime lord. Anticipating the worst if the crime boss is not brought to justice, Jack Slate and his K-9 companion Shadow thrust themselves into hostile gang territory to save the informant and bring peace to the City. "Dead to Rights: Reckoning" takes full advantage of the gaming power of the PSP, delivering advanced 3D graphics, surround audio design, and an advanced camera system that utilizes the handheld's widescreen display.

"'Dead to Rights: Reckoning' accurately translates the adrenaline-soaked combat of best-selling action series, and adds several new features that take advantage of the PSP hardware," said Pierre Roux, Executive Producer at Namco Hometek. "The game's unique ranged and melee fighting engine and stylish disarms are sure to make it one of the most action-packed games on the PSP when it is released this May."

"Dead to Rights: Reckoning" expands upon the blistering action of the series with a robust ranged and melee fighting system that allows Jack to spit lead and bust heads with ease, and an all-new selection of weapons and lethal disarms. Players will also have unprecedented control of Shadow, utilizing him to watch Jack's back and unleash savage canine fury on lowlife thugs. For the first time in the series "Dead to Rights: Reckoning" allows players to go head to head through wireless multiplayer death matches, adding hours of replay value to an already extensive single player campaign.
