Deadline hears that Ron Howard has emerged as front-runner to replace Phil Lord & Christopher Miller on the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film. Disney dropped a shocker this afternoon with the announcement that the duo exited a picture that has been in production since February at London's Pinewood Studios. This after an inability to recover from creative rifts with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

It's not the first time Disney has had turbulence in the director's chair as rumors had writer Tony Gilroy directing the extensive re-shoots on the Gareth Edwards-directed first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, a film that turned out to be a crowd-pleasing success that crossed the billion-dollar mark in worldwide gross. Trying to confirm with Disney. Howard's repped by CAA.

Rogue one was crowd pleasing?

I thought it was average until the final act. I certainly felt its directing issues.

A lot of people liked it, it was very successful

I didn't like it very much but that doesn't change anything

People hate Force Awakens too

So a hack who hasn't made a single good big budget film since 1995. Jesus, it really is Ant-Man 2.0. Maybe even worse since Star Wars>Marvel.

"Quick, get us the blandest most milquetoast director to take over this flavorless movie no one ever asked for"

Its so Disney, its almost not funny.

Huh, news to me. I suppose i never read thoughts online, i just went and saw it.

I suppose maybe theres hope for this movie too but youd wonder why they have these director issues
You not loving it doesn't mean it wasn't crowd pleasing. What odd posts.

What was his last good movie? Beautiful mind?

I actually enjoyed Allied quite a bit. I've been a Ron Howard fan since Willow, though. I'm okay with this choice - seems like a good old school director to get on this.

Edit: Jesus Christ, the hyperbole in this thread.

I heard he will also narrate

I don't see it happening.

Yes, Willow is awesome. Backdraft is his best though.

I don't see how this is in any way comparable to Ant-Man as they didn't start shooting yet when Wright dipped out. This has been shooting for 5 months, probably nearing completion lol

Well this should be average. Which isn't exactly what I think of when I think Han Solo.

Are we sure Howard isn't making a Mon Mothma or Qui-Gon Jinn movie?
