I amazed at how much fox gets the X-men. Nonsense timelines, and overexposure of a stabby character. It is like the 90s again

the middle part of the movie (the origin story) keeps it from being a good Superhero movie.

Just watch the first Act and the final Act, forget the crappy middle part that was just filler

Wow, didn't realize the tide had turned so strongly against Deadpool on GAF.

Normal people liked it, too, so it must be terrible. Or something.

It was different and unique and I'll allow it because it'd be hilarious if it got one and Dark Knight didn't.

It wouldn't really be hilarious though. It'd only be getting the nod BECAUSE of the Dark Knight snub. Without that snub, they don't increase the nominees to 10 and Deadpool never has even a sliver of a chance.

If the same rule had been around then Dark Knight would have gotten one easy.

Nope
The movie was good, but extremely overrated

Most of the best jokes are on the trailer and the second half isn't good as the first

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
I enjoyed it but I really don't see anything there that makes it worthy of an Oscar. I watch something like La La Land, Fences, or Moonlight and I actually felt something walking out of the theater. *shrug*

I had the same feeling about Mad Max getting nominated. I really enjoyed that one too, but I'm not in sync with the rest of the internet cheering it on to win.

This would be ridiculous. It would show just how much superficial the members of the academy are.

I love Deadpool, but no.

Superficial like refusing to respect something because it doesn't fit into a narrow set of acceptable subgenres?

Mad Max and Deadpool are not comparable.

One is a film we never get anymore, and the other is one we get every 3 months, except this time he breaks the fourth wall and talks about his dick.

Crash won Best Picture at the Oscars...

It wouldn't surprise me if Deadpool that's a better movie than that piece of crap gets nominated.

deadpool isn't a bad movie.

It's a low budget Superhero comedy that lands every 1 in 10 jokes, but the Superhero says 100 jokes a minute so you laugh or snicker and some memes are generated. It was alright and slightly different compared to other superhero movies in a few ways, but it also falls back on the save the girl I love trope which was not that great.

One is actually a funny explicit movie and in the year of Bad Moms, Sausage Party, Office Christmas Party and Why Him? shouldn't be taken for granted

Yes Mad Max is a better movie but I'm not gonna be fussed if Deadpool gets a nom. It was certainly a lot more entertaining than any other recent formulaic superhero movie or terrible comedy movie.

the trump of comic book movies. I guess the academy is trying to diss the comic book industry as a whole if they go with this, just like they did with Birdman.

Does it really deserve it though? Is it really one of the best films of the year?

In the fictional reality where Deadpool wins Best Picture I totally expect the acceptance speech to open with Ryan Reynolds taking a massive shot at the former Fox executive who didn't want the movie to be made.

If anything, I do feel like this kind of necessitates the need for the Oscars to break Best Picture out into two categories kind of like the Golden Globes does. Comedies feel like they're generally boxed out from major awards like because of dramas and Oscar bait

I hear this sentiment a lot, but I feel it wouldn't take long for the Comedy/Musical category to be seen as the lesser one. Drama would become the "real BP". It should remain one category, and the Academy should be more accepting of other kinds of movies. Plus, it isn't just comedies that get overlooked for BP.

whether the jokes didn't land with you or not does not make it a bad movie? It is a film not for everybody because Deadpool just like the comics is hands down the most annoying hero in comics.

Wow, didn't realize the tide had turned so strongly against Deadpool on GAF.

The movie is on HBO now so non-comic book super fans, such as myself, can watch it. I thought it was an above average comic book movie and I am glad I did not pay money to see it.

Imagine if it won, then Deadpool just ran around in DP2 with an Oscar statue dangling from his belt, or around his neck like a giant necklace.

Like never actually comment on it, but it's there.
Nah, as Ryan and one of the original Deadpool co-creators have said, he'd just try to shove it up his butt to see if it fit and for the hell of it.

I only mildly enjoyed Deadpool, but I'm not going to get upset about nominations. There are easily 10 films I think deserve the nomination more, but the Oscars have never really been about what deserves to win.

But this was also the same year that Hunt for the Wilderpeople, The Lobster, and Popstar: Never Stop Stopping were released (Lobster in 2016 for America), so there have been better comedies.

I mean, it was one of the best movies of the year. Critically acclaimed, commercially successful... why not?

I'd put it in my personal top 10 (at #10) and it's a well made, very funny movie.

I don't see why people are saying it'd be embarrassing? Cause of the penis jokes?

Haven't seen Hunt for the Wilderpeople but I've seen The Lobster and Popstar and I just have to assume this post is sarcasm cause they were both awful.
all 3 deserve the recognition. Moonlight is arguably the best picture of the year.

have you seen them?
I've seen them all now and they're all high quality films and I wouldn't be pissed if they got the BP. Just saying from my personal opinion Arrival or Kubo were my favorites.

A comedy that's not funny is a good comedy?

There were some good jokes, but again it runs on the say so much something has to land format.

Dawg I love dick jokes.

Deadpool did not contain quality dick jokes.

Can't be more embarrassing than it already is.

And yes I enjoyed Deadpool but wow...awards ? lol. It's a mediocre but slightly enjoyable film. But award worthy ? lol.

Yeah I loved Deadpool but award worthy makes me lol

Well I guess I can reverse my last post. If any mediocre comic movie were to earn a nomination, the philosophies of Deadpool would be a great choice. lol
