Dear Nintendo: I hate you (Canada, not rev controller related)

Not that I was going to buy one anyway, but with the Canadian dollar enjoying long-time highs, it's nice to see Nintendo continue to take advantage in their pricing...

Micro: $100US ($118CDN)

Canadian retail? $130

(same pricin exists on GC)

DS: $130US ($152CDN)

Canadian retail? $170

Xbox is in a similar situation (hate you too, MS!), but the PS2 is nice and close to actual exchange.

I understand there are realities that make this happen, but damn it all, I want to get full bang for my buck. It's more annoying in the case of the Micro and the DS, because the dollar has been high when the price was set in both cases.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how Canadians can't get the pink DS stylus for registering Kirby.

Well, I'm afraid you can't do anything.

You're screwed.

FOR LIFE!

HAHHAHHAAHHHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

*remembers he lives in Europe with ridiculous prices for games and game consoles as well*

Oh...

:(

Our Best Buys also never EVER get $5 game deals, or even $10 games. Sometimes I see you US guys get $1.99 games and it makes me wanna puke my gizzards out.

Meh, I'm paying way more in health insurance costs...
You trying to say Nintendo's low (or high depending how you look at it) exchange rate subsidizes our health care? Way to go Nintendo!

No, I'm just saying that things balance out some way or another...

Until the climb a couple years ago, Canada actually tended to get VG stuff cheaper than exchange. Call it karma.

Move to the US. :D

and give up free health care?! HA!

My futureshop had Micro pre-order at 99.99 until they got work it was the wrong price and jacked it up to 129.99 :( looks like it's an SP for me

This does indeed suck. I really want a Micro but have no reason to buy one I already have a DS and GBA SP. It's the damn Nintendo brain washing. Must have new product... (Lurches around like mindless zombie). If I wasn't so damn anti US I would pop down and grab one and save a few dollars.

I doubt it if you consider our taxation levels. Most bought goods are taxed from 15-18 %, alcohol is taxed at about 200-300%, Gasoline is taxed at 30-40%, any income over 60,000 is taxed at 50%. My taxes (health insurance costs) are the same as the 400 lb chain, smoking alcoholic.

I used to import my games from Canada cause they would work out 15-20 bucks cheaper than buying it in NZ :lol

I actually toyed with making a trip to the U.S. with this as a benefit. But there's nowhere I really want to go in the time I have off this year that will be a) nice to go to at that time of the year and b) within my travel budget.

Still, I might end up going to the coast to visit a friend, and if I do, it'll probably be a quick jaunt down to Bellingham.

I also considered a day trip across the border, but it's a lot of time on the road, and while it's generally fun, it's also damn expensive with gas prices where they're at right now.

Except the chain smoking alcoholic is paying more tax because his two vices are so heavily taxed.

It has its ups and downs my friend, 3 years ago we got comparitivly cheaper games becuase of a weak dollar. Now we pay more due to a high dollar. thems the brakes, and hey, atleast we aren't the UK where everything is ridiculous.

Amazon.ca seems to be slightly better in pricing. $124 for Game Boy Micro, and I remember some of their DS games are between $29.99 to $39.99 CAD instead of $49.99.
Free shipping does mean it'll take a little longer to get there tho.
