Oh, OK. I guess my tastes are wrong then.

Say what you want about Death Grips. They are a very unconsistent group, and their antics may put off some people. But they are undoubtedly influential. There is a strong case that a lot of the aesthetic for Yeezy's last album came from death grips, and Kanye's work is hugely influential in the pop sphere. Sooner or later the abrasive tones you call noise now might be used by top 40 producers in the future. It's happened before, with Krautrock in the 70's being met with scorn by the british media, yet their innovations with electronics being implemented in the next decade. The same with Afrobeat and World Music in the 80's. IDM and dance music in the 90's. and most recently dubstep and bass music. These were genres that were met with indifference by the mainstream press, before being implemented by the top selling musicians of the day later on.

No it's not noise, if you can't even bring yourself to put a serious critical evaluation on this, then why are you even in this thread? To shit on people who dare have a musical opinion that isn't as enlightened as yours? 'This is just noise' has no critical value what so ever, Zach Hill is one of the greatest drummers in the world right now, and looking into MC Ride's lyrics will show they are more than random shouts. This is abrasive, yes. There is more than one type of fruit in the world, believe it or not, and I know this may blow your mind. People actually like this! real, breathing people, even well scholared music critics, even forward thinking artists like Bjork do! Bjork even let them remix two songs from her last album. Kanye, the king of all great taste, liked their line of thinking that his last album was full of abrasive textures that DG pushed forward. We're not deaf, there is actually people who enjoy this, everyone has different tastes! Isn't it great

So by all means make a drive-by post and claim with you superior music tastes to deem this as inferior. I'm really interested to hear your articulated thoughts about why you are put off by this, why it causes such a negative response. Why you couldn't close the tab and move on with your life.
Really? The guy's made some good songs (and some shit ones), but wtf. Kanye fans, get a grip.

Dying at popgaf coming in here for bjork and having their delicate top40 ears violated, leading them to insult everyone else and post blingee emojis (the only way 90% of them know how to interpret music) after which they're probably signing back into their @Arianator4Perry twitter account and mass-posting "fist me" on Sam smiths instagram. Go reblog shoddy yonce gifs on tumblr or something, or you could try listening to anything outside your comfort zone (like people have said death grips aren't even that obscure. And honestly aren't massively experimental.) and see if it ends up being rewarding and expanding your one-note white bread and mayo music taste

Pop music is amazing and pop stars are awesome and you all nearly ruin it.

thank you based ander holy fuck

i, much like most of the people who probably bothered to even listen to this ep, went in with the expectation that bjork's vocals would actually be incorporated into the songs

you know somewhat like the robyn x royksopp ep

but i guess thats too much to ask

giving an artist a featured label does NOT mean relegating them to moaning throughout the track

stop

giving an artist a feature doesn't have any exact implication except that the artist will be heard in some form on the track. in what form is completely up to the producers. being a feature doesn't mean you get a huge part. it just means you're on the track somewhere.

sorry about your expectations. this album rules, and it sounds great with what bjork contributed.

Gotta listen to it a couple more times to dig it. None of the songs really hooked me like ones on Money Store or Exmilitary.

I don't get Death Grips. They sound like an anxiety attack in audible form, on acid. I'm kind of surprised Bjork would want to have anything to do with them.

Back in the mid 90s Bjork was also huge into Atari Teenage Riot and the Digital Hardcore scene, so it's not like anyone should be surprised at her interest in Death Grips. She's always been into noisy anarchistic sounds.

Anyway, on first listen I'm not feeling this one much... but will give it some time. Bjork gets on my nerves with her endless screaming, wailing and carrying on, so I'm very glad her vocals were spliced and chopped to be used as rhythmic and percussive instruments.

She also, of course, was a member of KUKL long before she fronted The Sugarcubes and launched a solo pop career. She was making "noise" long before she made (really really excellent) pop music.

Came back and tried listening to it again. I still can't enjoy it. The vocals sound like they'd want to be in a punk band, the beats sound like they took vocal sampling too far and pretty much use some sort of glitching technique to a too-great of an extent. It's music, but I fail to get much of a melody from each of the tracks. Sounds more like I am being pummeled with samples kicks, and snares. I'll just stick to Flying Lotus for my experimental hip-hop/other stuff, since Death Grips steps a lot further (I guess) into the experimental productions. Or maybe I'll try their other stuff and come back to it. Maybe my experience will change.

Hooray, you found the point of this type of music, you just realized you didn't like it which is completely fine.
