The Death Stranding 2 debut sales in Japan dropped 61% compared to DS1 at retail according to Famitsu.

Famitsu Sales: Week 45, 2019 (Nov 04 - Nov 10)

01./00. [PS4] Death Stranding # <ADV> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.11.08} (¥6.900) - 185.909 / NEW <60-80%>

Famitsu Sales: Week 26, 2025 (Jun 23 - Jun 29)

03./00. [PS5] Death Stranding 2: On the Beach <ACT> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2025.06.26} (¥8.164) - 71.964 / NEW

The first one we didn't know much about so it was all hype since it's a kojima game. Heavily advertised and a ps4 pro limited edition it was a game to get. Not to mention the story was intriguing to know what's going on.

Then played it ……. Being a FedEx delivery isnt super fun, even if you add nice cutscenes in it.

Didn't finish the first one. Got bored super quickly. DS2 sounds more promising but I am still not interested in delivering stuff. Almost feels like a pain to play.

Granted I didn't play it. And I'll will own it at one point when it hits the PC. But not feeling the hype to grab a ps5 and buy it brand new

Eh, it's been 6 years. Physical has fallen even further off the cliff. PS5 Pro users don't even have a drive unless they purchased separately.

Also guessing this will have more long-tail sales, there's no FOMO here so unless you're itching for something to play there's no incentive to pay top dollar for Day 1.

Kinda does tbh. If it wasn't for GAF I wouldn't know it was out.
To be fair, July is a very strange time to release a game like this. I assume that it was moved up to avoid GTA6, but that didn't come out, leaving it Stranded in a month with Nintendo releasing new games for a new console.

I expect a sales spike around the holidays, but I don't know if it will be enough to make up for the costs.

Playing the game right now, the game is basically a little bit better than DS1 if you don't like the first, you are not going to like 2 at all.

I dunno. The lack of fanfare shows a lack of interest overall. We'll see in time.

The only way to fix this is by expediting the Xbox port.

Will be much bigger on PC. Hopefully not a long wait and i will double dip. Just gimme ultrawide mode again and some extra content

People seriously missing out on a fantastic game, but oh well. Atleast we got a sequel

If it wasn't a Kojima game and hyped to the stratosphere by Sony, but instead made by a new studio, game would be panned because the only hook it's the story which is wacky af, but the walking delivery simulation was meh

I've said it already, even if the sequel delivered MGS1/MGS2 plot + MGS4/MGSV spectacle and gameplay, people still wouldn't be able to detach it from being the sequel to FedEx carrier in a dystopian setting: The Game

I just wish he would have made a MGS clone first and made his artsy bullshit later.

I'm sure this is a good game and I will eventually get it but I can't imagine being really hyped for it like a new game from Larian, Nintendo, Capcom, or anyone really.

I'm afraid they pulled a Horizon Forbidden West and didn't upgrade the concept of the game enough to make it stand out from the first one. I was expecting a quantum leap from everything we saw in Death Stranding but it sounds like just minor to major upgrades to an already decent game.

I still want to play but do these people not think of the market at all when they conceptualize or even greenlight these games?
