The republican party has become too conservative and it's lost it's way in being truly conservative (small government, low spending).

I'd vote for a moderate democrat (like Bill Clinton). I'd also vote for a moderate real republican.

We need to start a third party dammit.
Not happening anytime soon... probably never. :lol But a new party would indeed be interesting.

McCain will get beat to hell and back by the fundies and won't make it out of the primaries, just like in 2000. It would be easier to convince Drinky Crow that the Nintendo DS is a fashionable, well-constructed piece of modern hardware than it would be to get the Christian mullahs to support McCain.

Damn you, lol

Too bad these aren't recent. :(

WTF does the party really matter ? Judge the politician by his obvious lies, motives, backing, campaign promises, agenda etc etc.

I liked a lot of things about Clinton, but he's a perfect exacmple of the virus that's eating at this country. (not talking about his sexual issue)

You guys forgot at least one potential Dem candidate, Mark Warner, governer of Virginia. Though I'm not particularly a fan of him, but I suppose he has a better chance then most of the other losers.

I noted this in a previous thread, but The Economist noted that a Biden/Warner ticket would offer the Democrats the best chance at winning the election since the two have complementary experience and since Warner has the Southern appeal. Warner may very well pop up as well; I would've dropped his name earlier except I couldn't recall his position or name and I didn't have the issue handy.

I thought the modern trend was for the Democrats to always run some guy most of American has never heard of, and for the Republicans to run the same guys that they've run before.

What obscure Democratic governors are there? Ones that most Americans know nothing about, and thus would have no hatred for?

What Republicans have been nearly nominated in the past, but didn't quite make it?

(Side note: I'm half expecting the GOP to run Condoleezza Rice for president at some point -- laugh about the GOP as much as you like, but there was a somewhat-seriously considered woman trying to get the nomination the last time around.)

So I guess I haven't given a serious response to Diablos's question yet.

I really don't think Hillary has a chance of winning.

If southern states didn't support Gore or Kerry... you think they're going to support Hillary?
Still plenty of room without considering the south. FL, OH, southwest, and around the Mississippi (AR, MO)

Always drives me nuts when pundits talk about how democrats need to win in the south because they're at such a HUGE DISADVANTAGE without it. By the same logic, Republicans should be devastated without being able to win California, NY, New England, etc....

Haha, true, but all that matters is that they get the votes. All Kerry needed was Ohio, and he was damn close, BUT, even if he won there would have been no denying the southern vote for Bush. Had they been able to get, say, Florida to vote in his favor, then he would have won even if he lost Ohio.
