Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Anyone else think exotics are dropping a tad too often? I'm probably in the minority, but I feel like they're just a bit too common, which makes them feel a little less special.

My only real complaint thus far.

I'm assuming exotics won't be nearly as broken this time around since their drastic changes to adjust pvp has screwed up any insane fun they can do with weapons. Might as well make them easy for everyone to access.

So what's a good way to get my light level up post story and at level 20? I kinda wanna do some strikes but I noticed people seem to recommend all sorts of different things. They don't seem to have a chance at exotics I noticed. Are there other things I could be doing that do offer exotics?

You know I rocked that build in d1 the one with the trip mine gauntlets and it seems waaaay slower in d2 been using the arc staff bro mostly lol I unlocked the nightsyalker but don't really care enough to do the quest just yet

The bottom skill tree for Gunslinger produces the most orbs out of any class while also adding precision damage. Each precision hit ups the damage and extends the duration of Golden Gun.

This has never bothered me. What made exotics special was how freaking fun they were to use. Like Gjallarhorn. I didn't care that it was rare. I cared because of this:

I could get a zillion Boolean Geminis or one. It wouldn't matter because it's a bore. But something powerful and fun? Yeah, give me that sooner rather than later. Let me spend more time playing with it instead of chasing it. I spent 11 months trying to get Hawkmoon in Year 1 and got it 2 weeks before they nerfed it. Would have much preferred to be playing with it for 11 months than doing Nightfalls and getting crap.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

(Also, I have had zero exotics so far)

No because there aren't any god-tier exotics anymore. Why make drops rarer if it's going to be lackluster? It's fine the way it is.

The reality is that exotics aren't that exotic anymore. They were balanced for pvp, so they're more boring to use in pve. Even some of the returning exotics from the first games are neutered.

Nailed it.

I used to write posts all the time during vanilla Destiny 1 about how it was too grindy and it didn't play to it's strength nearly enough due to the ridiculous grind (which was the gunplay and using the awesome exotics). Destiny has never benefited from making it's loot super hard to obtain and I'm happy to see Destiny 2 raining loot and giving you constant progression, both in levels and gear.

Besides sometimes gaf can lose perspective on just how much we play the game compared to others. I think I have 4 exotic weapons with more to chase and I've already put in over 20 hours... A more casual player will take 2-3 weeks to reach that playtime and have that many. It's good people can experience some of the cooler stuff in the game without ridiculous playtimes.

Just got Vigilance Wing in my gunsmith reward engram, any impressions? Not the biggest fan of Pulse Rifles but it's better than anything else I've got right now.

Went to all the Xur sites today...and was informed Xur is not showing up in Destiny 2 till next week. Cool.

Did Xur not show up in Destiny 1 today???
None of the Xur websites seem to indicate where Xur is in Destiny 1 this weekend, if at all...

Will Xur ever show up in Destiny 1 any more, or has he moved on with all of us to Destiny 2 forever?

I don't even particularly care for the Nessus gear, or fighting Vex...
But I keep going back to Nessus for adventures over EDZ for FailSafe interaction...

I'm a sucker for bipolar AIs...

There's a quest for it in EDZ.

Do I have to finish campaign first. Any level requirements?

According to PS4, the achievement from Destiny 1 for getting a piece of exotic gear has been achieved by 58% of players. This is current.

I remember about 6 months after D1 launch that number was under 10%, I'm sure they wanted to avoid situations like angry joe in his Destiny 1 review flipping out about the stingy RNG.

It feels good in PvP but it's no better, imho, than Graviton Lance is. It doesn't stand out like I thought it would being the PvP/trials designed exotic.

Just finished rat king quest with 7 mins to spare, recommend linear type fusion rifle cause that type wrecks. Also try to do it at a high level, was 273 and rat king dropped at 289 for me.

Leveling Alts....

So is leveling alt characters significantly faster now? The new smart loot system is supposed to take into account weapons/gear across all characters and vaults now, even if this gear isn't equipped

Example:

I make a new warlock, he's power level 100 and I get my first blue weapon drop. The PL of this weapon will be high because my hunter has weapons that are 270+ in PL? or! Will the PL of the weapon be lower because my warlock total power level is only 100?

Kind of confusing to write that.. hope it makes sense....

From my experience, blues at most only drop +5 higher than you are and legendaries like +10, with RNG variation around that. However, the drop formula is based on gear that you can equip. So basically transfer over the weapons and that's it. But most weapons have level requirements, so you can't even equip those.

Short answer, not really.

This is actually not entirely correct.

So two things

1) Even with Alts, their gear will still be level-restricted - so while it takes into account your maximum power level, since your main will have mostly Level 20 weapons that you can't equip on a new character, they won't be considered. Only equippable gear counts towards your maximum Power Level. (that's also why it doesn't consider an exotic at each slot, if your highest power level item is an exotic, since you can only consider one weapon and one armor piece)

2) You don't need to move weapons around at all - once you hit level 20, your maximum power level will be determined by equippable gear amongst your ENTIRE game. That includes:

- Equipped gear (obvious)
- Unequipped gear
- Gear in the Vault
- Gear on other characters

no need to move weapons around to have them included in the calculation.

What form of currency will xur be accepting in d2?

Just reached lvl 20. Took less than a day and didn't finish the story yet. Didn't think it would go that quick. I'm sure the difficult part is reaching max light...

Yeah, my bad. Didn’t mean you should transfer gear. I mean that for Alts of other classes, weapons are the only thing that can count toward your possible max light. And then as you rightly point out, level restrictions gate you from conceptually equipping that.

I mean, you DID write "transfer over weapons", I was saying that's wrong. No need to do that!

It's actually a really awesome QOL improvement, way less fiddling with DIM required.

By “transfer over” meant “the only thing you could transfer over.” I’ll edit my Orginal post.

For those of you that beat the Nightfall (and maybe even did Rat King quest), do you have any tips? I'm around light level 266, but I'm not sure if I should be killing everything or just the necessities and running through the rest. Also, how the hell do you beat that tank on the top floor without wasting a shitload of time?

From the sounds of it, even that won't be a big deal. It seems like unlocking and equipping "Weapon Mods" and trying to build the perfect custom weapon will be where Destiny 2 gets really grindy.

Seems impossible for me to decide which main class to use when this launches on pc. All 3 are sweet and have pretty big pros & cons for me. I've decided to let random.org do the choosing and just have fun with and adapt to what I get.

I did a thing.
---------------------------------------

You have just wrapped up story and arrived at Social Space. What to grind, why and when for Power Level?

I have used great write ups from JohnOfMars and Nami as help / base for this while added own info. Stuff isn't in particular order so make sure to read it all.

Aim for 270-280 PL before raid opens in order to be safe for NM Raid

--------------------
01. When in Social Space game has you talking with different NPC's for some dialogue and rewards. Talk to everyone else, but Zavala. DO NOT take that Exotic engram from his hands! Why? Its power level goes up as yours go up so longer you delay picking it from him into your inventory higher Power Level exotic you are going to get
* When your PL is high as possible, 260-270 is reasonable, return to Zavala and pick up your scaled up Exotic engram

02. Now head out to Patrols (EDZ is super popular atm) to do things. These things are...
* HM Public Events - Every event has specific trigger for HM, Datto made video on them. For e.g. Glimmer Drill event with Fallen has you destroying small machines near drill to trigger HM modifier
* Loot every possible chest that isn't nailed down for Glimmer, tokens and gear
* Return Tokens to Patrol vendor to level vendor up and get gear. Their engram levels up all the way to Power 265. Always good source for Gunsmith material as you can break this loot for parts
* Run and rerun Lost Sectors for loot as it scales with you by some degree
* Run and rerun Adventures for loot as these also scale
* Kill every high value target you come across as these also scale

03. You see blue markers (quest triggers) on the Director map. Avoid them as long as possible as they reward Legandary gear. Closer you are to e.g. 270 before taggling them higher Power Level rewards are

04. You will come by quests and quest items for Exotic equipment just like in Destiny 1. Just like with world quests avoid doing these as long as possible. Same as above, higher your Power Level is upon completing quest higher PL exotic will have

05. You can complete things like Patrol milestones, but do not turn them in before your PL is 260+ As you turn them in you get engram for your troubles and this engram scales up with your PL until you go and pick it up

06. Postpone doing Cayde-6's treasure map content as these rewards also scale to your PL so 260+ is recommended here also

07. There is no need to hold on to the engrams that you get during PL grind as just like during leveling they are rolled moment they drop and go into your inventory

08. Leveling up Gunsmith is good way to get PL boosts towards that 260-270 range. While visiting Gunsmith remember to dump your Glimmer into Random Gear Mods he sells. At PL280 you can turn those blues into legendaries with 3:1 ratio

09. When transforming blue mods to violet mods remember to have all possible blues in your inventory so Gunsmith offers all possible upgrades!

10. You could go and tackle content like Nightfall relatively early on (PL 240), but hold off here too because rewards scale to your Power Level. Higher your PL is when you complete these activities higher your rewards will be, from strike and afterwards from Zavala

11. Each week you get "Well Rested" buff that makes 3 levels of that week faster to get meaning 3 faster Bright Engrams for cosmetics. Every character gets this buff individually

12. Just like before you can gain small gearing advantages by leveling 2-3x same class as you can transfer armor along with weapons over to boost PL and hence boost all content rewards right out of the gate

13. Because of smart loot system your alts gain Power Level faster than your first character did making gearing up alts faster

14. Stock up on Legendary Shards for infusion and Xur so don't be shy about breaking down legendaries that are too low PL to progress you

15. Check every item you get because they can come with Legendary mod equipped. This means they have 5 higher Power Level than they otherwise would have, this makes them prime candidate to be infusion base. Especially early on

16. Don't be shy about using Exotics you don't want / see use for in near future as infusion fuel early on and pump up Power Level of your legendary gear. You can always reprint Exotics from your Vault with some Legendary Shards

17. Infusion works little different in D2 than it did in D1. You can only infuse e.g. Auto Rifle with another Auto Rifle or Warlock Helmet with Warlock Helmet. You can't use other weapon types or armors of other classes to PL boost this time around. Pre-order gun, Coldheart, can be infused with Auto Rifles

18. Every shader, mod and spawn animation thingy (last goes to ship as mod) is single use and will be consumed upon use. Be very selective and careful about what you apply to what! Only apply when you are 200% sure you are going to stick with said item or ship for long time!

19. Feel free to farm Strikes at any point of Power Level progression, but doing HM Public Events most likely is more time efficient way to pump up that PL

20. Be sure to do and return in all weekly content (Milestones, Flashpoints, Nightfall, Crucible stuff...) before next Tuesday so you get rewards for this week and then redo it all on Tuesday in preparation for raid on Wednesday!

Let me get this straight. You can upgrade exotics by infusing them with blue gear higher than your current exotic level.

Why do you want to wait ? its beyond absurd to me.

When you loot an exotic, you can dismantle it if its not good for ya and you ll find it in your vault anyway, so you can buy it back at some point for just a couple of legendary shards.

Say, if you have an awesome exotic chest lvl 230 you can just use one blue chest lvl 234 to infuse it, and your exotic will now be 237 or 239

There's just about zero good reason to not turn in powerful gear milestones since these are the rewards which will most likely give you a boost in either light level to unlock stuff OR for your gameplay. Further down the road you can infuse them with higher lvl legendary / rare gear that you won't use which you can loot from world activities, infused exotics will always be a tad higher than anything else you re going to loot for a little while anyway

One more thing : lets say you upgraded gunsmith's reputation truly a lot but neglected the other npcs in the process ... it doesn't matter since every single one of them will have the highest enneagram level you have at disposal. Don't need to scatter your farm too much, just focus on what is the most time efficient when you re logged in / milestones

Don't think there's anything better than HM events combined to patrols atm

You could do this in Destiny 1 as well... But it costs an exotic shard to infuse an exotic.

In Destiny 2 it costs 4 legendary Shards to infuse an exotic.
So doing this often will require quite a few legendary items to be broken down.

In Destiny 1, having a levelled up Defender Titan was the best way to easily slot into a raid group. Destiny 2 will likely have a similar preferred class in the Meta so if you are going to be playing a lot with strangers its probably worthwhile waiting until that is established (Probably still a Titan)

So far all the exotics being posted in the last few pages look like they belong in Scarface's home.

Well I got this yesterday, which will absolutely melt bosses.

Fire at boss until your fusion rifle has no more charge time, keep ducking behind rally barrier or in warlock rift with auto-reload and.... uh............... goodbye

It feels good in PvP but it's no better, imho, than Graviton Lance is. It doesn't stand out like I thought it would being the PvP/trials designed exotic.

Lol, damn. Graviton Lance is my only other exotic gun and I'm not big on it either. I prefer a snappier pulse rifle so it feels a bit too hefty for me. Would rather just use a Scout Rifle at that point.
