I think I broker those down and kept the Winter's Guile and Sunbracers.

I got Nezarec's Sin as a Milestone reward last night, but I haven't used it yet to see if it is helpful.

My 305 Warlock build uses Nazarec's Sin as its exotic and I built it out around that concept. It's real good. With void weapons, you become a machine.

the karnstein's are cool because you get back 10% of health and ability energy for every person you punch

That is the best looking exotic armor imo but really not useful unless you are playing a voidwalker and even then i think Eye of Another is better for that

edit: eye of another world doesn't recharge super energy any faster though

Crap, only my Sins uses Void, but I've been using Void as my super instead of Stormcaller lately. For some reason My arc in stormcaller hasn't been connecting to multiple enemies of firing off at all. IT's caused many deaths for myself and teamates, so I changed to void with homing for PvP and void with AoE for PVE (although, I have still hit a few walls and swore a great deal about wasting it....)

Sometimes I feel like a crazy person for thinking the PVP is largely fine

I win about as often as I lose, I die to all kinds of weapons, classes and abilities, I enjoy every mode except the bomb one, I rarely feel like the game is fucking me over

I don't know how anyone can say PVP is "largely fine" in its current state. It's anything but.

To the bolded point, I did my 5 Call to Arms Quickplay matches yesterday, plus a 6th to finish the Crucible challenges, and for shits and grins kept track of what weapons I died to. Check out this super diverse list:

MIDA Multi-Tool
Nameless Midnight
Better Devils
Uriel's Gift
The Number
Last Hope
Sins of the Past
Blue Shift

And that was it. 6 games, all completely different opponents. At least I didn't get sworded. I couldn't track my own team but the initial loading screens weren't much better. Most of us had either MIDA, Nameless, or Better Devils equipped in the team screen.

Destiny isn't a loot game, never was. But no, I'm not comparing it to OW.

People are right that it's not an MMO but to say it's not a loot game? Bungie markets it as a loot game (see the Cayde-6 D2 ad motivating guardians with "there will be a ton of loot"), Bungie spends a significant amount of time creating loot and discussing loot issues/balance, and the rewards for nearly every activity IS loot, regardless of the method of delivery (direct drops, tokens, etc.)

Saying Destiny "never was" a loot game is simply making shit up whole cloth.

Oh my god yea. I didn't manage to get the Iron Banner helmet so I turned the rest of my Iron banner armor to be Void-specific. And then made sure a lot of my go-to weapons used void as their element. Infinite proccing!

Ha ha ha, you are a funny guy. Rather than remove the emote and give equivalent bright dust or a bunch of bright engrams, etc, much easier to remove a piece of content. There wont be a replacement. Plus who cares right, its all a cosmetic chase now so play other content for a different skinned item. Like the prestige raid where prestige armor drops arent guaranteed BUT normal mode tokens are. Apparently, because its just cosmetics its cool and everybody is happy re-running this content for a chance at a cosmetic so *thumbs up*.

I personally like how the normal mode armor and weapons schemes make me think of a better loot game. Oh wait, sorry, the game is a collection game now with no real mechanics for collection. I mean sure I collected multiples of the same armor pieces and guns in Destiny 1 because they had different stats and perks, so I guess I should be excited to collect 5 better devils, or be like half of my raid team who collected normal mode tokens for the effort so far put into the prestige raid. Good times.

It is unfortunately because the devs and fanbase have no idea what the game is. D1 wanted to be like diablo/borderlands. D2, not sure what it wants to be. As you said, the marketing made it seem like a looter shooter like D1, but Luke Smith keeps calling it a collection game. But I agree, Destiny was a loot game and mirrored Diablo with that (same item with random perks, etc) and then now it has turned into a fixed loot system. And you know what, if you want to do fixed look and mods, they failed miserably at that too (look at Warframe for a proper fixed gear mod). D2 has turned into a game where they seem to be getting charged per player actively playing and are pushing for users to log in minimally and move onto something else before the next content drop. Outside of getting an extra heavy inventory slot, what is the point of the prestige raid compared to the normal raid (unless you really like the color scheme and a guarantee of 1 item drop)? And before the "well now the hardcore have a challenge" most of the hardcore personalities have out saying the same thing "I did it, it was fun, but I dont see doing it again when there is no benefit."

Using the word loot =/= Loot Game. Diablo and WoW both have Loot. Only the former is a Loot Game though.

Diablo, and The Division are examples of loot games. Destiny is not.

Also... unless they fixed it Karnsteins effect also works with the Stormcaller super

Making you effectively invincible while you are chaining lightning (since the lightning counts as melee)

With the nice bonus of having your grenade and rift ready right after.

Its a pretty wild combo

The game is casual because you don't have to complete the hardest encounters to get all the loot. This isn't rocket science. It's been discussed to death the last month. Having no meaningful rewards tied to the hardest content in the game just supports this idea.
If anything, making the hardest content exclusively reward cosmetics further cements the idea that it’s for the hardcore since there’s no other incentive to do it.

Same reason why by and large, Trials rewards have always been cosmetic. Sure there were brief moments when people actually ran it in hopes of getting Doctrine or Messenger but the people who went flawless every week weren’t in it for the guns. They were in it for the experience mostly, and the cosmetic trinkets to show for it.

This Raid is similar in that regard. Unlike Y1 where you “had” to Raid to get the best stuff (making people who otherwise wouldn’t be interested in Raiding a lot - casuals - get into it), it’s now an activity for the hardcore to go in for the pleasure of going in.

There’s nothing - not even a trophy - pushing you to Do a Prestige Raid. You do it for the sense of completion and satisfaction of overcoming gameplay challenges. Isn’t that as hardcore as it gets? Like an RPG you decide to complete in a low level run or completing a game at a higher difficulty - there’s no “reward” beyond the hardcore crowd plain enjoying it.

Diablo, and The Division are examples of loot games. Destiny is not.

Destiny 2 is not. Destiny 1 was. I mean there was the make shift loot cave in vanilla. You then had a literal loot cave in Rise of Iron. Then again, it was a loot game BECAUSE each weapon and piece of armor could roll different perks (and then in Y3 each vendor sold fixed perk set items that reset every week). I mean that is exactly a loot game.

They could have refined the RNG aspect like they did with items like the IB weapons in Y3 where the perk pool was smaller rather than dropping wholesale. I can log into Diablo 3 right now and farm rifts for gear in the hopes of getting more powerful versions of the same stuff I am using and I still feel like I am making progress. That is how it was in D1 and is completely absent in D2. So D1 was akin to a loot game like Division and Diablo, D2 is more akin to a CoD(Halo, etc) with fixed items.

Haha I just recalled there were players saving their NM raid tokens so that they could use them for prestige raid drops. XD XD XD

Saying Destiny "never was" a loot game is simply making shit up whole cloth.
Ruthless making up shit? *pretends to be shocked*

My God Roll Hawksaw that shredded TTK crucible was my personal high point of the D1 loot game.

I really don't see what the distinction really is besides quantity, but can we at least agree loot is a HUGE part of the game?

A Loot Game suggests that the Loot is the core aspect of the game. Diablo, for example, depends primarily on Loot to provide builds and skills. They do this through heavily randomized loot. There are boss fights but no real encounter mechanics to speak of. Loot games instead use waves and waves of enemies for challenge.

Almost none of this applies to Destiny. Destiny has far more in common with a game like WoW at its core. From builds being primarily influenced by skill trees to gear having static stats to endgame challenge being Raids with specific mechanics.

Destiny is a hybrid game, certainly, but it shares most of it's core design with MMO's. If the game was able to support "Massive" player numbers, it would easily be considered a heavily instanced MMO.

Hmm, I might have to buy a pair back from my collection and give it a shot. I used to love clearing rooms with Stormcaller, before it stopped chaining for me...

Again, I'm not going to debate what's "hardcore" vs "casual". That's subjective and you can spin it any way you want. I think that removing rewards for the hardest content is not the best way to do it, and I don't think it's to anyone's benefit. Having major content that you beat once just for a sense of accomplishment, never to play it again, is a bad game design choice imo.

Seems like the go to exotic if you run Stormcaller in PVP

Helps lessen the odds that youll go down instantly to team shotting when in your super

And of course in PvE it helps to be even more resilient in high end content

Got 2 identical rewards in a row from 3 separate vendors today, I think I’m done with this game for awhile. I understand I’ll get doubles at 305, but so many in a row? In the same day? Incredible

I was doing the nightfall last week and saw a warlock slap the hell out of 2 hydras and blow them up. I was sitting there like

So today seeing Xur have Winters Guile made me happy. I’m gonna bitchslap everyone from this point on.

Friday night (PS4) Newb Raid (10pm EST) is Full

Sherpa:
- CarbonFire
- sephi22

Newbs:
- Griffy-
- DeadlyCyclone
- Mairu
- Wolffen

Thanks guys for stepping up and leading some future raiders to the promise land! Sephi, this time, 3 of the newbs are actually your clan mates, so you can invite them directly from the clan list! (Grif, Mair, Wolf)

That makes things easy. I'll add you guys this evening when I get home from work tonight.

Also to Griffy, DeadlyCyclone, Mairu and Wolffen. Xur is selling the Sweet Business Auto Rifle right now. If you haven't already had one drop, or don't have the preorder weapon Cold Heart, I'd suggest going to pick that up. It's a very useful weapon for one of the phases of the boss fight, especially for Titans with rally barricade. It's also just a fun weapon to use in PvE too!

Absolutely.

Destiny isn't a loot game, never was. But no, I'm not comparing it to OW.

Their announcement trailer for D2 literally had Cayde6 screaming about a ton of loot.

Destiny is a Looter RPG/MMO hybrid. Or, at least it was.

I and many thought they would refine and expand those systems come D2. Definitely suprised they basically just ripped them all out and claimed they led to "toxicity", a stupid fucking buzzword that seems to be doing more harm than thoughtful design in this case.

forrest

formerly nacire
Saw they were adding challenges to the raid and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to add some great rare achievement cosmetics similar to the stuff at the end of D1. Then I saw the rewards were emblems.

They just make Factions full time.

I was om vacay and found it stupid that Factions are only once a week per month

Is Antiope that submachine gun? Is there something special about it? I got 2 of them before but I dislike subbies so much that I think I may have used them for shards.
It's the best smg in the game right now for PvP. 600rpm make it easier to control than the higher rate of fire smgs. It has insane range too. Best thing about it is kill clip. The dmg jump is significant.

So if we use Winter Guile, it COULD increase the damage of the super after each hit ???

Hmmm

I dunno!

I dont think Winters Guile works the same way.... could be worth testing if WarGods sigil pops up on electricity kill! I dont think I have ever put winters guile on anything but my Devour Voidwalker

I feel like that would be OP XD

Winters Guile w/Devour just melts everything but you have to be able to put yourself in a hero scenario. High risk/High Reward.

Winters Guile/Storm Trance? I dunno if it actually works! Worth a test

Karnsteins/Storm Trance - Works amazingly. Synergizes to keep your health and abilities up and your super becomes basically invincible and enough lightning chains caps your abilities back up after your super ends. Incredible combo

Nezarecs Sin - If you love just playing traditional and mindlessly this is the go to exotic as long as you run void weapons. Works great for any subclass but obviously Void Walker gets the most synergy

Eye of Another World - If you dont have anything else this is a solid go to exotic and works well with armor mod cooldowns. A good stepping stone to the other builds

Skull of Ahamkara - I was sooo excited to get this and sling nova bombs more often.... it DOES work but no where near as well as Obsidian mind did back in D1 days. Even when taking out a group of 5-6 enemies you get less than half back and with the blast radius of Nova seemingly smaller these days it has proven annoying to use effectively. Maybe I need to try this with the SLOVA Bomb?

Did you find ANY good combination using Dawnblade ? Seems very weak compared to the other subclasses.

By the way, Zavala got 300 engrams ATM (for those already at 305).

Hmmm i rarely use it... Unlike Void and Storm dawn blade seems focused on flying around more than giving you an edge

Its certainly inferior to sunsinger and seems like they intended it to be more of a PVP mobility/trick class?

It does have a decent super and Sky attunement could be leveraged in PVP.. Thats really where I see these guys the most

Attunement of the Flame seems more PvE based but Ill have to figure out the best synergy build.

As for exotics? Ehh... I suppose SunBraces, Nezarecs Sin, Eye of Another world are the best so far? If fusion grenades kept their DoT burn and reduced enemy defense like in D1 I would say Starfire protocol. Unfortunately Dawn Blade just lacks many of the passive bonuses that would normally set it apart like Void and Storm have

me too, i've rocked winters for a little but the count down was a little too quick and i really missed getting health and ability increases with my melee.

oh great. trials of the nine got cancelled right when i was going to attempt it because i really want that warlock helm for my 305 :(

I only found success with DawnBlade in tight corridor maps where you can abuse the StarfireProtocol's double sticky. And also Sunbracers with a solar nad closing a corridor. The Super is also better at close range using it like a sword.

But I found that the subclasse loses value in open maps, hey look at me! I'm a target!!

I tried to make an Attunement of Sky PvP build with the exotic Wings chest, but poor in air accuracy meant it was tough to find a loadout that worked well. I found as soon as I stopped in midair I was gunned down very quickly.

I didn't give it that much time though. It's probably all about learning where to fly, catching people by surprise because they don't expect you in the air, keeping close to cover so you can dodge into it, etc.

PVE: Sunbracers Exotic atl east refils your grenade after using you Melee Abiltiy on hit.
Good for PVE but not practical in PVP since Melees have been nerfed.

PVP: Starfire Protocol: Double Stickies, yeah they are not lethal, but they at least remove armor

but eh, Dawnblade

I've had instances of this happening in Destiny 2 as well which just adds to the great fun of getting useless duplicates. There has to be something that triggers it (getting 3-4 duplicates in a row). I used to have some issues with The Division doing the same thing not only to me but other players in my group where we would all get the same drop/same contents in a cache, etc in multiple activities.

Will try to tackle the Raid next sunday. Again after failing at the Royal Pools two weeks ago.
Just wondering, with the upcoming PC release, are there any news regarding the HDR update for the consoles?
