Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

I like the trailer. I like that they're doubling down on Cayde. Embracing the camp was the only way it was ever going to work because the shit was so cheesy to begin with. The Taken King was fantastic, and they *seem* to understand that.

September release date is kind of awkward for me, just because it's so far before Scorpio launches. I want to jump ship to PC but for friends-list reasons Scorpio might be a decent alternative if it lives the 60fps life. I've never wanted cross-play for a game more than this one.

I replaced dumb with borderline manipulative and the sentence still doesn't make sense.

Aren't you a regular in the Destiny OTs? You don't find this reveal trailer slightly manipulative for essentially showing no product but putting up a 250 dollar pre-order with a lovingly-crafted handbag when they have a noted history with Destiny 1 of being, to say the least, real coy with what they're *actually* selling you?

Hey, if the answer is honestly no, then that's fine. I just expected more, and you expected less, no big deal.

Edit: This is more an industry problem than a Bungie problem -- was hoping they'd shake the trend, and they didn't, so it's not like I'm attacking the game, per se, but again the past of Destiny 1 should make people just a bit leery.

It definitely doesn't make me feel optimistic about Bungie changing how they'll handle things with Destiny 2.

I think I'm going to go with the limited edition instead of the collectors. It's just a little too expensive for my taste and I probably won't use half the stuff in it

So this whole reveal was for a CG trailer, preorders, and an announcement of gameplay in a month and a half? So stupid. Companies need to stop doing this shit.

Really liked that trailer. They are really going hard on the 'nothing' will be carried over' stuff, which I guess is good for new players but have they announced anything for existing players? Surely their character levels carry over.

Show me the PC version and I'll start the hype.

the enemies look like just cabal?

Which I don't mind considering they got shafted quite a bit in the first game, which favored the Fallen and Hive a bit too much.

I'm all for the galactic space empire of aliens that hates Earth to get more focus and depth. It will remind me of Bungie's golden days with Halo and the Covenant.

Looking at the trailer again, I do find Cayde-6 funny. The problem is, I don't think the situation being described by Zavala is intended to be funny. He's describing the destruction of the Tower and the City, with pictures of moms and dads and kids, etc. being hurt and displaced. Then a quick cut-away to Cayde 6 laughing about shooting guardians and getting loot.

Either go serious or go full Deadpool/Guardians of the Galaxy. This mix just seems odd to me.

It sort of works. You have the actual story that they want you to care about but no one does and the robot's awful rendition of Deadpool explains what the game is really all about, loot.

Just realizing that turns me off. I'd love if Destiny had a campaign and a story cause it looks like they have some cool ideas.

Was hoping more of an "Earth completely destroyed you're not going back" sort of thing. I'm scared we're just going to see the same areas and all the same enemies and this turns out to be nothing really new aside from more Cabal focus and tower-area fighting.

Excited but no way i'm preordering until more information is provided and gameplay is shown. Need all the PC deets.

I wouldn't say entirely like that. There were some glimpses of dialogue that showed that personality when you visited him in the Tower, but outside of that he was as boringly serious as the rest of the game. That one Psion strike on Mars he briefs shows that. Either way, he had little dialogue like the rest of the characters to get anything substantial out of him.

I'd say they simply turned up the notch on that personality with the Taken King and now that notch is at its fullest with this trailer.

Read my previous post in response to Breezy.

I can't remember him at all in Vanilla and I played as a Hunter.

Then, like most people who play MMO's, you didn't give too much attention to the quest dialogue. He's the Hunter Vanguard leader in the situation room. His personality, like that of all the NPCs at the tower, came through in his sound bytes from talking to him or hanging out in the room. He's been more forward as the threat to mankind has increased but he's always been this way. It's precisely why Bungie had Nathan Fillion voice him. The same is true of all the Vanguard leaders and even the Faction leaders. They're voiced by actors who are best known for playing the types of roles that the characters represent.

Deadpool/Guardians of the Galaxy vibe from Cayde.

Seems like a complete reset button on the series, worries me a little since they had built up a pretty good foundation with a lot of content in Destiny 1.

Yeah, it's like they're trying to cater to players who don't care about all of the critical things that Destiny 1 lacked (e.g. a story)

Everybody take a breath - They've got the gameplay trailer, Mp trailer, Story trailer and a bunch of vidocs between now and release. Its not shipping tomorrow.

Pre-ordering is not manipulative and you can purchase the base game for $60, not $250. The agency is in the player. "Pre-order this collector edition if you want because it will be limited, if you decide to change your mind after gameplay or after the beta cool. You can cancel if you want."

I don't see how it is hard to understand that a collector edition with a physical collector item costs money.

You can be disappointed in their reveal, but saying that it dumb and manipulative is ignorant.

Whelp, pre-ordered from Amazon already :p

Liked the trailer, it was fun. Hope the Warlocks get some love too though! Agree on the complaints that the art is very..."meh". Liked the cover for the first game a lot more.

That said, reading their Beta page for the game, they're not sending Beta codes as of yet, correct? Otherwise I just got screwed on my pre-order lol

Then you haven't paid any attention to the way he's been developing throughout the timeline of Destiny.

As Guardians have been venturing forth and gaining ground he's slowly been taking more liberties with his duties and expressing himself more, and it works for him as a leader (TTK opening missions). But it's the same character archetype as always.

He's also a gambler who collects gear and has stashes all over from before he was stuck with Vanguard leadership. "Loot" reference is meta, not Fourth Wall breaking.

Uhm

Cayde got the most development in TTK. Even then he had a cowboyish, witty personality. With him gambling on having the stealth work for your crash landing and what not.

They took that all away and decided to make him the merc with a mouth. That isnt character development. Its straight up into making him deadpool.

As for the "loot" line, nah thats him breaking the fourth wall. Thats why everyone cheers, because literally everyone who plays the game loves loot. It doesnt speak about cayde for him to say that.

I see what you're saying, but it's possible to be 100% on board the hype train while still practical; all you have to do is pull a cord to get off.

I'm going to pre-order the CE as soon as I can, and if I don't see what I want between now and release, I'll just cancel it.

No matter what is said about Destiny 1, I do come away from it feeling like the devs at Bungie were always trying to provide the best experience they could. They just had a lot of trouble doing it.

Yep. The "space magic" feel of the game really seems like it's being dampened. We've only got two trailers, so we'll have to wait and see, but so far, the visual tone is distinctly different.
RIP Space Magic

Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home

Although wouldn't be surprised if this is only the first part of the narrative

That trailer was garbage just like the teaser trailer.
Cayden is not a funny character and they should stop focusing on him.
These 2 trailers leaves me with very little hope for Destinys story going foward.
I stopped playing Destiny after the last king and gameplay needs to be ace and we need a much smoother user experience if Im going to get this day 1.

Yeah right... Cayde wasnt even a proper character until TTK.

They really didn't have artists with better taste when they did that cover art? Or they did and the committee said that it needs to be as ugly and generic as can be? That is like holy fuck levels of bad.

to all y'all hating on Cayde:

giphy.gif

bunch of dirty misfits!!! :p
and I'm a titan mainer!!!

but anyway this has been Cayde personallity since day 1( really didnt get to shine until TKK but from is quips you know he was the jokester of the group)

Commander Zavala: the seriousl stalwart type, like to have a plan for everything

Iroka Rey: just as serious; but the knowledgeable one.

Cayde-6: the "Comic" the shoot first, ask questions later, he was recutied not because of his knowledge of leadership but because his skill in battle.

y'all really played destiny?
