I take it that console users will be downloading some extra data when the game releases?
That's a weird thing to already know though, right? Or at least an oddly specific number to plan for at this stage.

Good lord is this thread negative. I get people frustrated that it's just a CG trailer, but damn. Just chillax folks.

I'm also wondering how long and deep the initial story gameplay will be. If it's only focused on the Cabal, I hope it doesn't just feel like another expansion.

To be fair, people have a lot of reason to be skeptical of any content they see after how much Destiny 1 was overhyped by Bungie.

I liked that trailer. Robot Dead Pool was cool. I like the tone a lot more than whatever was the "tone" of Destiny 1.

I'm very interested in the PC version.

68 gigs. Imagine how much that Switch cart would be.

It blows my mind people are already lining up to preorder this thing after the debacle of a launch of the original game. Especially when nothing has been shown yet or for another 2 months.

I have over 1500 hours in Destiny. All the people I play with are planning to get the game as well. What's wrong with me pre-ordering the game right now if I know that I'll have another 1000+ hour experience?

To comment on a couple concerns on the game embracing the meta-meme culture type thing, they started having Cayde make comments like that starting in the Taken King, it's never been a huge part of the plot. Cayde's comic relief and a treasure hunter, and has his serious moments. I wouldn't worry too much from a 1:30 minute trailer. Go off of what Bungie has proven already.

I laughed at out loud at he trailer. I'm actually kinda hyped for the game now!

It just sucks that we gotta wait until May 19 for in-game footage. Until then, maybe I'll give Rise of Iron a try since I purchased it on the day it was released and didn't give it a go yet.

Pre-ordering is not manipulative [...]

Yeah, I think we just kind of fundamentally disagree about how pre-order culture has gotten. But no problem. This is derailing things anyway -- everyone get back to scheduled Destiny 2 excitement and hype.

Notice it says the MINIMUM required is 68GB. That likely means that's what size the game is right now, so they know at least that will be required. Final release may be even larger.

Aren't you a regular in the Destiny OTs? You don't find this reveal trailer slightly manipulative for essentially showing no product but putting up a 250 dollar pre-order with a lovingly-crafted handbag when they have a noted history with Destiny 1 of being, to say the least, real coy with what they're *actually* selling you?

Hey, if the answer is honestly no, then that's fine. I just expected more, and you expected less, no big deal.

Edit: This is more an industry problem than a Bungie problem -- was hoping they'd shake the trend, and they didn't, so it's not like I'm attacking the game, per se, but again the past of Destiny 1 should make people just a bit leery.

If you're ordering a $250 edition you've probably played destiny before and know what to expect. It's not like Bungie is holding a gun to anyone's head

The description does not really announce anything revolutionary in the structure of Destiny. Using phrases like "meaningful innovation" does not make it sound like they tore down the core gameplay loop, which was revealed to be kind of a constant carrot chase, which felt cheap after a while.

Wary of this.

Let the speculation begin. Are they done with the game and working on DLC now? Idk but you do bring up a good point. Surely all cutscenes have to be done if they know the GB amount.

Uhm

Cayde got the most development in TTK. Even then he had a cowboyish, witty personality. With him gambling on having the stealth work for your crash landing and what not.

They took that all away and decided to make him the merc with a mouth. That isnt character development. Its straight up into making him deadpool.

As for the "loot" line, nah thats him breaking the fourth wall. Thats why everyone cheers, because literally everyone who plays the game loves loot. It doesnt speak about cayde for him to say that.

Go back and play the opening missions of TTK where Cayde talks about having stashes everywhere. Listen to the strikes where he invades on Ikora's mission briefings. Read up on his Grimoire cards.

He was more dour but always had the dark humor. As Guardians have made progress, his dourness has changed to snarkiness. And with his mood changing over time, he's been a more impactful leader. The development for his character type is damn near a trope. Cayde is pretty much Malcolm Reynolds of Firefly in a robot body.

They haven't announced the PC distribution platform.
Ok, hope it is. Just with a massive IP like this I can always expect them to have their own client just to be able to get all of the money. Was half expecting Battle.net for when Destiny finally came to PC but since they renamed that to just Blizzard it would make less sense now.
Activision games have been on Steam still so hope it stays that way.

With the game being about 5 months away from release, they should be pretty damn close to content complete and getting ready for polishing and stuff soon. They probably have a good idea I would imagine... or it's a made up number lol.

Sure is a lot of hate in this thread. I was happy with the trailer because it seems character development is happening. I'm not pre ordering until I see gameplay though.

I'm pissed about the LE being Gamestop only. What kind of horseshit is that? What monster puts the middle version as an exclusive to only one store?

Many of us were expecting to see some sort of new alien race (black pyramid ships, personality) that would elevate the conflict to new juicy heights. Or perhaps the next evolution of the Hive or Vex. Not the Cabal. I hate fighting the Cabal.

Pre-ordered the Limited Edition from GAME. Their website is going haywire under the load. First time I've seen that happen.

I think the trailer itself is fun, but as a destiny reveal it is not too impressive.
From Cayde's tone I don't feel too much severity of the situation. Like just another reason to kill mobs and get loot.

I say this as a huge, huge fan of Destiny with > 1400 hours in it -- I have *no* idea what to expect. That's part of the excitement and part of the fear :) We'll definitely see the game at some before we have to make a final financial decision, so it's not a huge deal, but this reveal feels to me like the wrong direction to take given Destiny's history.

(And as a Destiny fan, you feel the gun on your head even when it's not there. Creepy)

Same is happening at GameStop. If you add the CE to your cart sometimes it says its sold out, and other times it will add it. Obviously getting crazy traffic.

If people thoroughly enjoyed vanilla Destiny and the content it provided, by all means, preorder away site unseen.

I'll remain skeptical.

You highlight "Vanilla Destiny" as if Bungie is not taking lessons learned from their numerous DLCs and updates into Destiny 2. It's fine to remain skeptical, but it is foolish to act bewildered on why people would be excited and pre-order a sequel.

Trailer very much aimed for the fans, and I liked it.

But it was kinda weak when it came to hype it up, don't you guys think? Felt like a trailer for another expansion and not for a huge sequel.
