That's not a mask, one of the races in Destiny are called the Exo which are basically robots, Cayde is one of them. And yes you can play an Exo.

Its not a mask he's a Exo aka a robot. They are a sentient race and you can indeed make your character an Exo

Weirdly I'm finding the event link to be way more stable than the Twitch app, despite it just being the Twitch stream on the webbrowser.
