okay so I just got done with an amazing session with Full-Recovery and Baliis. Its been great playing with you guys. Apologies if I wasn't able to play with you tonight, but I try to spread my time between players I haven't talked or played with yet so everyone gets to know me even if it's just for a little while.

I will be on tomorrow, most likely on all day, from 12pm to 11:59pm PST if I don't crash from exhaustion first.

If you want to play and haven't played with me yet, the PSN is notacosbeykidd so feel free to add, hopefully the member cap on the DestinyGAF clan is resolved by then.

Good night and good fortune to you all.

NoTacos out.

Okay, this was infuriating.

I had one of the guys I was playing with bail on us while we went up against the Devil Walker, and I was left with a horrible team mate. Rarely bothered to revive and turtled into a corner only to get pummeled by the cannon blast splash damage while I was waiting to respawn. Basically tried 4 fucking times to beat this thing and when I finally had on its last inch of life bar ... I get disconnected.

Fuck off.

Maxed all three, now I'm attempting to get Green gear in every slot. Almost done with the Titan, but I spent four hours earlier trying to get a green chest... Unfortunetly, the loot table doesn't account for the low level cap, so I'm getting level 10 and 12 greens and even some level 12 blues but very rarely do I get something for level 8. Oh well... Do we know if the beta's level cap is going to be any higher? Hopefully 14 or something?

Just did the Devils Lair strike with two randoms...wow that was hectic but really fucking fun. That mission got me super hyped to play more.

Yep this is the problem. If you didn't get all your gear by around 6-8, the chances of you getting gear is pretty slim. 75% of the gear I'm getting is 9-12, even have 3 blue items.

Oh well, I know it is all getting wiped anyways.

Honestly the level cap is really too low, assuming they stick with 20 as the cap. Reading numerous reports that you will hit max level in a few hours of gameplay. Then you start the gear grind. Meh, not really too happy about that. Basically you shouldn't buy a single thing till you hit max level.

Anyone has a feeling that Titan is the most broken class in this game?

You just knife everything in PVE due to high armor, and then the skill tree emphasizing on melee is so good: Sprint charge, restore HP, AOE dmg, refresh Fist CD. You are LITERALLY a Juggernaut charging into battle.
For PVP, the high armor and one shot AOE special, yeah...about that.

Overall... Ain't nobody got time to aim and shoot! I am just going to put my fist in your face.

Really? I feel the Titan special is the one move I'm most able to dodge (and thus survive) in PvP.

There are 3 major issues at the moment.

1- I love the game
2- I want it now
3- Give it to me now

Once they fix those, it'll be an ok game if you can find it on sale.

what is up with this depth of field?

You need good guns when you get that it only takes a few hundred bullets. You also need to damage it's parts it should die win 3 leg breaks.

We were shooting the legs. Maybe our guns weren't strong enough. It had to have taken 40 minutes. Don't care though every minute of it was tense and fun.

I feel that it should be at least be level 12, so we can try the very first rares that become available to player characters.

I'm honestly interested in seeing how quickly the leveling slows down... I'm curious to see how long it will take to get to level 20. Unless it slows down a ton, I feel that I could easily max all three classes in less than a week... Not sure how I feel about that, but who knows, maybe Bungie has something clever in store here.

The gear can grow with your character, so I wonder if they're planning on making the climb to twenty slow, but make every level an important milestone with new gear that has powerful effects attached... I'm also curious to see what the maximum cooldown reduction will be... 50%? 75%? They could easily make each level a significant improvement for your character.

I guess we'll get to see a little of what they have in mind not too long from now. I'm definitely interested in seeing what they have in store. I'm hoping that those rumors are NOT true... I think that would be very disappointing.

I'm confused about the map. I only have the devils lair, the dark within and explore cosmodrome on my map. Are those the only areas in the alpha or do we need to discover locations like the divide in explore mode to unlock them on the map?

Those spiderpig tanks are mental. Thousands of bullets.
We put in WAY too much work on that boss. Imagine if that 3rd guy hadn't joined in. We'd still be shooting that thing in the legs. Giant Purple Eyeball guy was a cakewalk in comparison. Still, it was nice to play with another forum member and hit level 8 at the of that mission. Good fight.

In the final game the level cap is 20 and Bungie has stated that players will hit it within a few hours. Personally, I don't like that.

As it stands, I will not spend a single 'credit' etc till max level.

I'm not so sure about that being bad. For one, we start at level 3 in the alpha, which suggests one of two things. Either the zone we begin in is meant to accommodate us at earlier levels, or there are three levels worth of content we haven't seen prior to where we begin in the alpha.

Which means we've only played 5 levels, and we have no clue how the leveling curve manifests in later levels.

We also have no idea how much of the game's content is designed for or meant for max level 'end game' characters. For all we know, leveling up may only be half of the actual content. I can imagine that such a design choice would help immensely in ensuring they can retain some sort of balance with regards to difficulty. I've been exploring the hell out of Old Russia to the point that I would likely be at least 3 or 4 levels higher if not for the level cap. Heading into the next area, I'd have a definite advantage that would greatly trivialize any encounter. I think the only way to avoid that and achieve some kind of decent challenge is to have a ton of content meant for 'end game' with a different metric for progression and advancement outside player level (which really only seems to govern access to gear).

I'm not sure how I feel about a gear grind in a competitive multiplayer game. It is very, very frustrating to enter multiplayer when you are level 1 and face off against level 8 characters. "I need to get back to grinding so I can stand a chance" is a menacing thought that encouraged me to drop World of Warcraft. Is it really desirable in a shooter?

Take solace in knowing that in one day all of your progress will be permanently deleted anyway.

Were you on normal or legend difficulty? The Giant Purple Eyeball guy is way harder than the spider on legend just because the mob spawns are more frequent, extremely tough, and spawn behind you (yay). The spider just takes an eternity to kill.

Fair enough if there are indeed different spawn times for different enemies / parts of the map but coming from an MMO point of view most of the time a longer spawn time is more of a problem than a shorter one so I'm personally hoping they don't change it even if it's just for the sake of farming certain enemy types for bounties and stuff.

This scares me. It's scary to me that some people DON'T want the re-spawn times altered. It's WAY too quick right now IMO. In places like the Forgotten Shore, enemies literally start re-spawning the moment you turn your back to the area you are leaving. It breaks the immersion for me, takes away from the sense of accomplishment in exploring, and is just plain annoying. I'll just hope that it's like it is now because it's the Alpha.

Yeah, but see, Destiny isn't an MMO. It may have MMO-like elements, but that's not what it is.

Free-roam is all about exploring and experiencing an area. That's why the respawn timers should be turned up.

Precisely.

Finally got to do the big mission, The Devil's whatever. I'm glad I got to play in this alpha, but probably not in the way Bungie would have liked. Prior to playing, I thought the concept sounded interesting, but after getting my hands on it, I've seen enough.

I think it's telling that the most fun I had was seeing how long I could go with the speeder's boost button mashed without crashing into anything.

Those are the current locations on Earth we can access. There is also The Tower and The Crucible.

I'm pretty confident that gear and level are both equalized in multiplayer. My weapons definitely don't do anywhere near the same damage in PvP as they do elsewhere.

The only benefit of leveling therefore comes from the achievement of secondary stats, better scope unlocks, and your class grenade options, I think. Which is fairly similar to most competitive fps modes these days.

I've played through a portion of the single player so far, but I found it enjoyable. The one social bit I've experienced went without hardly a change in my gameplay. Another player randomly showed up, I didn't even realize I was in a social event. We killed a few baddies then went on our own way. If a majority of social parts work out like this, I think I'll enjoy Destiny just fine.

What? You guys are shooting them in the leg right? When he collapses he takes a significant amount of damage. Each round from my semi-auto rifle was doing 200-300.

Took 5 mins with a party of 3.

Definitely would have preferred that fight to include more than one spider but they die quicker. Everything else is going down so fast that the pace just seems to crawl once you reach him. Not to mention how mindlessly easy it is to dodge everything he has. Having to weave between cover while avoiding two of them, though? That would be my jam.

Only problem I have with the spider is that I run out of ammo for my guns. Maybe necessary for ammo crates in some areas. Hated having to switch to heavy guns and sneak close to the boss to take out weaker enemies in the hopes of ammp drops. I might need to buy those consumables to replenish ammo.

You can purchase extra ammo at the tower and then while you're playing go to options > items > use special. Voila

They're intended to be a Glimmer sink, I think... A dungeon tax, because death has no penalty in this game.

Pro strat on the boss is to have 3 people in different spots.

One person in the middle underneath the building peaking out by the snow and the other two on the left and right side.

You will always have two people doing full dps.

What would make the fight much better is if the thing moved around the entire area. Stationary mob that rotates is funny.

Yeah the people complaining about the walker boss fight taking too long are obviously doing it for the first time (I remember complaining about it too). Once you've geared up and you know what you're doing, it's a ~5 minute fight. Which is definitely not worth complaining about when it comes to boss fights.

Most likely it will just become known that these Strike missions will present a challenge if you attempt them at the level they are offered and if you have crap gear.
