how does the exp system work in this game? whoever kills the enemy gets the exp? hope that's not the case

can you find public events while on strike missions?

XP is given out like candy, not just on the kill as far as I can tell.

Strike missions are very focused and mostly instanced missions. Think dungeons in an MMO. No public events in them afaik.

Bungie actually did a really good job with balance. The thing with carrying over progress is that the guns scale down. Like if you bring in a bad ass pulse rifle, it does the same amount of damage as everyone else's pulse rifles.

Special weapons like snipers and shotguns you can spawn with a change on the fly, but I think it's balanced nicely. It's not like Halo where they're scarce, the balance comes from everyone's access to them.

The heavy weapon ammo is scarce though.

Hm, heavy weapon ammo drops during gameplay, and everyone runs for it?

Special weapons.. so everyone carries it? And they can use it anytime?

And what do you mean it scales down? The game calculates everyone's weapons in a match, and changes the balance dynamically? How does that work?

Thanks for the info!

To clarify something, does remote play not work with some games? Thought it was mandatory / a feature for all games (with proper input mapping of course).

Everything other than that BF beta seems to work with it. When you try to use the Battlefield beta with it, it says something like "This app cannot be used with remote play" on the screen of the Vita and you have to go back to the home screen of the PS4.

Reading about all these people already getting alpha codes makes me...

The IQ is fantastic as well. And it's still alpha!

I wouldn't expect the visuals to change much to be honest.

The Reach Beta and Halo 3 Beta looked nearly the same as the final product (played both). Destiny doesn't really need to look better anyway, it looks fantastic in motion.

They say, it's in alpha. Alpha and Beta have become marketing terms. They are are now made for the sole purpose of being auctioned off to the highest bidder. They no longer truly represent an actual stage in development.

1. More or less.

2. Special weapons are things like sniper rifles, shotguns, pulse rifles (I think that's what they're called. The ones you charge and then fire for a quick burst). They're your secondary weapon, and you have them at all times.

3. Not so sure how to explain this one, basically... it just does. Everyone's weapon damage values are brought down to a normalized level so that the weapons are more or less the same strength.

anybody playing titan? are they a lot more tankier than the other 2 classes? are they slower? i mean this game seems like a game where lots of movements is needed so if they're slower i might not play as them (0 console fps experience)

To clarify point 2 more, you do have to pick up ammo like you do heavy weapons, but it's far easier to obtain. Scattered about like grenade or BR/DMR spawns would be in a Halo 3 or Reach game. Plus you carry over some of your ammo on death after collecting it so after getting some you're pretty set for a good portion of the match.

Watching a comp multi stream atm, seems to be a running theme in this game that the voice overs are shit...pretty disappointing

Yep. All weapons have ammo that drops that needs to be collected. It's pretty easy to avoid running out for primary and specials, though; heavy weapons are really the only ones that you'll be ammo-limited on.

Um, alpha means feature complete. If this is late alpha (ie about to enter beta which it probably is considering beta is in a month), it's feature and content complete. What part of that is getting you salty?

They shouldn't change much if at all because beta is content/feature complete. Which means everything in the game is done and final save for bug fixing and minor stuff.

Awesome playing PVP with so many gaffers today. Had some connection issues so I think that's my cue to go to sleep. Can't wait til more of you get it tomorrow!

So I was playing with an employee earlier and I asked him a little bit about the damage and balance and such. He said that each gun type has a set damage that doesn't change no matter what the guns stats are. It could actually be be a thousand or ten in PVE, but in PVP, everyone's guns do the same amount of damage. As for the special weapons, yes, you can use them when ever. But I don't think I've ever seen any issues. Everything seems to balance out and most people seem to use the more versatile primary weapons, except in certain situations. But I've not really seen any particular thing overused or something id call OP. Except maybe vehicles.

Yeah you start with no heavy weapon ammo, and it spawns and you have to fight over it, like power weapons in Halo.

Can anyone comment on how well shooting from the hip works on PvP?

I'm no fan of ads, but can see it working if hip-firing was a higher skill option to ads, ( ads being the easier option but leaves you more vulnerable as a result).

What I mean is, in a middle/close distance dual, hip firing should win out because of better mobility. Is this the case in the alpha?

To a point. You really have to use both to be effective, but hip fire isn't something you can do across the map like in Halo. It's something you use, and is mostly effective, in medium or close range situations. I think it strikes a nice balance between ADS and hip fire. But ultimately you have much more accuracy in ADS.

Sort of, yeah. I found that ADS wasn't super necessary unless you were at a distance, as hip firing isn't extremely inaccurate.

Anybody know how clans/guilds will work? Will voice-chat be required?
Clans right now seem to be joined from the bungie.net Destiny interface, and your clan basically functions as a separate friends list of sorts where you can send out party invites, inspect other clan members' characters, etc. Voice isn't required. Oh, and you get a clan tag under your name, too.

Thanks for the information. Anybody doing a GAF clan?

Just solo'd legend difficulty on the campaign mission in the game.

Completely in love with the gameplay when you crank that shit up, was a little to easy for me on the standard difficulty but bump it up a notch and its on halo tier fun. Still getting used to the super but I guess that will take a while until I'm completely comfortable with it and the grenade throws are taking some getting used to as well.

Haven't tried pvp or the strike mission yet but I'll get around to them tonight.

Overall loving it.
