Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Played up to level 4 earlier today. I went to the hub where everyone meets up (forgot the name, I call it the Citadel since everything in the game reminds me of Mass Effect), and saw a few people lolling around.

How do people perform those dances and such when greeting me? Do I need to buy it in the game?

I assume our stats won't carry over to the main game, but what about our character preferences? I chose a vanilla human that kinda looks like me.

Also, what class is considered the best now? I went with Warlock but I don't think I'm doing the L1+R1 super correctly. Overall, though, having a blast. The graphics are so good, gunplay is tight and everything just screams top-tier quality. I do find the voice-acting weird for some reason, though.

Use the D-pad for emotes.

And I'm pretty sure nothing will carry over to the beta or the retail release. Just remember how you customized your character, I guess.

Thanks! =)

I played the story mission on Legend. What a fun ride! I think there was one new set of enemies, too.

Speaking of story, does the game have a definite ending or will it be like an MMO? I mean, is there an end boss that we defeat and we get to see a cut-scene or something?

Earlier or last night there was a thread of a video showing 6v6 Destiny gameplay. Can't find the thread. Can someone that knows what I'm talking about link me the video please.

Thanks! =)

Currently, it gives you a 30 second countdown after you kill the baddie you were after, and returns you to orbit. Wish it would let you explore a bit more.

You get automatic type rewards in the recap screen. Doesn't flow like free roam mode.

30 seconds of non stop dance party!

Entered mine shortly after E-3, haven't received anything yet. Have the masses received theirs, or is there still some time until the major roll out?

My thoughts exactly. Luckily, I have roommates and we play games on multiple TVs in the living room. One for World Cup, the other for Destiny.

That sounds like the best way to spend an afternoon I could think of, have fun! I fucking hate having to study for the Bar. Don't be a lawyer kids, it's not worth it!

I'm sorry! I live with my brother and watching him study for the bar was painful and I wasn't even taking the test. It'll be worth it though, he works for the DA now!

Has anyone done a mechanical exploration video yet? Specifically I've seen a bunch of mechanics hinted at, but not really used.

Here's what I've seen bits of in streams, but not seen used.

1. Consumables, I saw them for sale in a stream, does anyone use them?
2. Materials, are they used in any kind of meaningful way, or just sold for cashola?
3. weapon upgrades. Everything is so low level there aren't many meaningful boosts.
4. Slide move: is that universal, or class specific?
5. Elemental weapon damage. Is that used anywhere?
6. Factions, do they do anything at all at this point?

I'm pretty impressed honestly. everyone seems to be enjoying the hell out of this alpha, and it seems like a huge part of the RPG mechanics are still buried under the surface of the game. This game is going to be pretty massive.

Is it just me or does it seem like the Warlock is overrepresented in all alpha videos and streams?

Flashy name,
Flashy look,
Flashy effects,
Flashy flash.

It's a given of course.

the game seems pretty chill and relaxed so far. it's giving me that Journey vibe based on footage on twitch so far. not too much dialogue, story is expressed through gameplay/environment. digging it.

1. Yes. I find the special and heavy one's really useful on strikes. When you use one be it any of them they all go on 5 minute cooldown before you can use another.

2. Materials are used for upgrades later on. Also some you collect like Spinmetal can be traded into some NPCS to gain rep, etc.

3. Was there a question here?

4. It's not class specific. Everyone can do it.

5. Some enemies do take more damage from elemental weapons.

6. At this time it really is unknown.

I can vouch for the fact that environments have a real sense of mood and place. I'll tell you when the wind whipped up suddenly while I was alone on the Old Russia plains walking and exploring, I got chills. Very few other FPS games even try for that.

Today is my last day of Senior year and I come home at 2:20 so I am set for the alpha! (Depending on when exactly I get the code.)
