Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

This game is stunning. I've haven't played much but so far I absolutely love it. Can't believe this is in Alpha.

One thing that bothers me so far is it feels like the FOV is a little too zoomed it, kinda hurts my eyes.

I'm actually shocked at how much the alpha has changed my opinion of this game. I had 0 interest in it before, the game looked so generic and dull. Oh how i was wrong. I don't know what it is but I'm finding the game really fun, enjoying every moment of it. The combat is great and the story telling by tyrion is a nice touch.
Genuinely take back everything i said about this game. I have no idea how you do it Bungie, but whatever you guys have done its definitely worked.

Late to this thread...been watching some gameplay as I'm not in the Alpha myself.

Soooooo, is it just me or could Peter Dinklage seriously not sound anymore monotone and bored as fuck in this game as he's delivering his lines?

Feels so good to finally try it out after spending the last 3 days watching others do it.

Overall it's very enjoyable. Love the shooting, movement, visuals Though there are some things that have stood out so far, that I think could be better.

1. Respawn rates.
The respawn rate is simply too high for my liking. I was in the area where you can get the public event with the spider tank. And I couldn't even manage to clear the area before respawned enemies started to shoot at me again. Gave me the feeling that killing enemies was pointless in that area, hopefully not something Bungie is going for.

2. Variation.
There is not any variation in enemies at a spawn location, always seem to be the exact same mix of units and faction. This makes the world feel very static and scripted. Adding some randomness to this could help make the game feel more dynamic I think.

Another area that lacks variation is the rewards for exploring. It's always "just" a chest with some glimmer, and maybe an item/crafting material. I would love to see something like video and audiologs scathered across the wasteland. It would add some variation, as well as help the player get some lore insight, and it would fit with the theme of Destiny being about recovering what humanity lost during the fall. Would also make sense that such logs could be turned in for rewards and be part of exploration mode objectives.

The enviroments are gorgeous and really well crafted, except for those small caves and what I assume are spawn rooms. These are very common in Old Russia, and it just kinda takes me out of the immersion when I enter the exact same cave for the fifth time in forty minutes

Would also love to see other salvagable materials than only those spin metal plants, or whatever they are.

There were some other things, but I seem to have forgotten what they were atm. Will write them Down when I re-remember.

Disagree with the respawning stuff, but I agree on the variation/exploration point. I'm chalking it up to alpha though.

Yeah FOV is crazy small.

After 2hrs of play I want more, Bungie still has it. The campaign is like a good version of borderlands, and the multiplayer is scary close to halo, it even says post carnage report on the score screen. This game is extremely well made, there's nothing alpha about it. I'm going to preorder when the alpha ends.

My code came through earlier.

It'll have to be left overnight downloading by the sounds of it

Initial impressions are that the game looks nice, gunplay is good, but so far the game is boring. Skill trees seem very deep, looks like you can gather items to do something, and you can re-color gear. Character creator leaves a lot to be desired, but probably doesn't matter since you wear a helmet anyway. Been playing for about 45 minutes, and just seems very boring. Walk around, kill dudes, rinse repeat. Sometimes guys on ships land and you kill them, too. Nothing really grabbing me and showing me this game is amazing yet.

Also, the FOV is so damned narrow it's giving me a headache. :(

Anyone figure out how the "servers" and instanced off areas work? Will you meet the same people in the wild that you see at the Tower? Or, does it seem like it randomly disperses characters wherever they need to be for back end stability and ideal population thresholds?

Downloading now! For some reason the remote download didn't start until I received the message from Playstation about being in the Alpha when I logged in.

Add me if you want! PSN: Fonz72

Population distribution seems to be random.

Framerate needs a lot of work. Hopefully it will be improved in the Beta.

Am I missing something or is there no way to turn down/off the music? I hate when games blast the music at high volumes when you're near a boss. I want to hear the movements of the enemy, not a song.

If there is a Bungie or Activision rep viewing this thread, I am being told by Sony support that the Alpha codes are expired, apparently they are claiming to be told this by Bungie and are suggesting I contact them.

Just got off the line with PSN Support and they activated my code for me. Downloading now! Can't wait to play with you guys.
