Destiny: Exotic weapons fixed.... and then broken.

Glad to see free to play design philosophies still alive and well in Destiny. So many gates already, why not a few more?

Buy any legendary armor for marks and break it down for 2-3 ass shards.

Buy any legendary weapons for marks and break it down for 2-3 ass energies.

Oh, yeah. I know about that, but grinding for 65 marks to break it down into 3 shards/energy is not ideal. It's really not a good way to get a ton of mats. Your max is 200 marks, so that's like 9 mats a week.

Wow. I recently came back to Destiny and finally found time to finish the Thorn bounty... I guess I just wasted these last couple of days leveling it up. Good to see Bungie doesn't value our time.

Glad I jumped ship as soon as the newer games started releasing.

For anyone interested, I've created a Xur simulator to calculate the probability of rolling the exotic armor you want next week. Results are in for Week 1:

If they offered pay to win I'm sure some of the more
addicted
invested players would give enough money to buy Bungie a branch office somewhere in the Bahamas.

Are you guys aware that Ascendant Materials were not the problem in the grind?

I have 300+ Shards and 200+ Energies.

The XP is the real issue here.
Ascendant materials are most certainly the bottleneck now that planet resources are fixed up, especially if you don't have good access to non matchmade modes. I got four ascendant materials from the daily story today (two for completion, one from sharding a legendary set of armor I got from it). That's 2/3 of the way down one perk on my five legendary items I'm trying to level. Without time in the raid (which I haven't done yet) it will take me a few more weeks to finish leveling that gear.
No offense, but are you aware it IS a problem for some players?

I had to dismantle some legendary armor I had in storage yesterday just to get the shards needed for level 29. My buddy is in the exact same boat.

Not everyone plays the raid weekly, y'all. The raid is a huge source of income and ascendant mats, but not everyone has patience to play it weekly, let alone multiple times a week.
This.

You know look, I hate to bloviate on this, but this is what really pisses me off .........

WHERE IS THE COMPENSATION FOR ALL THE TIME, EFFORT AND MATERIALS I SPENT UPGRADING MY WEAPONS!?!?!

In my opinion it is BS enough making me have to buy an "upgraded" version of the weapon I already own. However, you also totally discount the fact that the weapon is upgraded? A new version of a weapon is treated the same as a fully upgraded one? There is no compensation for all the expense you went through to get that weapon maxed out?

How is this even allowed to happen? It is a complete disgrace!

This is the type of mentality that Destiny is thriving on.

"I hope Bungie can fix this!"

"Please bungie, give us x and y!"

"Bungie - please implement Z"

I used to tell all my friends that played destiny and hated it that "Oh a fix is coming for that!". or "Well in the next update theyre going to change this, so that will make it better!"

But in reality, looking back on it, I was in a hard state of denial.

Don't get me wrong, I've other things to do and play while they sort this out. And I'll play the raid with my usual group if they are up for it (they are cool cats). I was just giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt, as misplaced as that hope may be (I think this is how Bungie is handling things tbh)

You play to enjoy the game not worry about your "hard work" being moot when more content comes out. That's pretty standard for MMOs and other MMO-like games. It should of been fun getting the old gear and to level 30 and now you should have fun trying to get the newest gear to level 32. If you are really that upset your weapons and armor are mostly going to be obsolete (they are even giving you an upgrade avenue!!) then you are playing the wrong game

Case in point. Umm how about you having fun? If you had fun doing it, then who cares, you'll have fun getting the new stuff and/or upgrading your old stuff again. If you didn't have fun doing the old stuff why the hell bother playing the game?

Oh Bungie, you wound me. I don't get it, you piss off the grinders with this overly convoluted gear respec, and the casual players by tightening your grip on the Crucible and Vanguard weapons. Marks plus a "Commendation" or whatever the fuck it is? Allowing mats for marks, but taking away marks for mats? No more prize package after your first Public event of the day?

Hey how about just adding a new tier to Nightfall and Daily Heroic, instead of just bumping everything up?

I don't see an upside for casual PvE players so far.

I won't argue with your disheartenment*. If that's your reaction, I'll pass it along. (Although, who am I kidding? This is GAF, and people are reading this thread as I type.)

The facts I can provide are that we've tried to speed up the path to upgrading weapons by removing the need for Ascendant Materials.

*Is that a word?
Requiring ascendant materials seemed far quicker to me than needing an exotic shard that is only sold for a short period each week or obtained by breaking down hard to acquire exotics. Especially since I need 2 exotic shards to turn in my weapon and then fully level it. And on top of that only certain exotics can be upgraded each week. I'm sorry but this last patch was great and then today's news completely reversed that good feeling.

This.

Aren't you choosing to limit yourself from playing raid for material? If you're level 25 or 26 it's accessible.

Material is also available from grinding marks from a ton of different options.

The time to get 21 material is less than the time to get 200,000k+ XP I'd imagine.

Until the new farming material economy, there was nothing else to spend your marks on and you still get ass from any legendary gear/weapon that you don't want to keep. Even though they removed the daily public event package, you can still get ass from events, you get 2 ass per day per character for the daily, etc. etc. I realize you and some other players may have an ass bottleneck, but there are lots of ways to bypass it.

The structure of the game now has XP and glimmer as the biggest grind bottlenecks. This should be obvious to anyone seriously invested in the game, which is why its so disheartening to hear DeeJ suggest that removing ass mats was somehow expediting the upgrading.

Not everyone plays the raid but apparently has time to farm other things. With a decent group, of which there should be shitloads now, the Raid takes like an hour at best (even Heroic for the 29 and up) and the first part of it can net you already a good handful of ass mats per week. Which is arguably shorter to beat than a Strike. You don't even have to finish the whole thing in one sitting. 15 minutes a day would work too.

The Raid is the best thing about this game, play it.

It's about the journey, not the destination.

I really enjoyed my time with Destiny, but I dropped the game after I realized that the amazing support that people promised that Bungie souls give is didn't exist. And I'm glad that I apparently made the right decision.

DeeJ we know you're reading. You wanna pat this guy on the back or something? A hug? He's clearly not getting anything else for his time so you could at least give him a little love.

The Raid is the best thing about this game, play it.

People have run the same raid since the game came out, getting nothing but shit drops and ass mats that dont mean shit anymore.

Youre right, the best part about the game is the raid. Which is why there should have been more than 1 at launch.

But you can only play the same content so much before you start to utterly despise it.

I love how DeeJ came in to apologise for saying the players are wrong, but the only comment he posts is "clarification" which only made us feel worse about it all...

Now he is gone.

I just don't really know what these philosophies give them - players are still playing your game, I guess, but they're not spending more money. Without them, there might be an overall more positive reception to Destiny and in turn encourage more expansion sales.

As a Destiny defender inmustbsay that its very vexing to hear this, but i suppose it makes sence in its own crazy way.....they would not give free uprgades....for free but would not want to retire old exotics with completly brandnew diffrent exotics....

It would suckmlil less if you could level more then one exotic weapon/armor at a time.

Accessible is hardly the word I'd use to describe their approach to the raid. In fact, it's purposely designed to be the opposite.

I agree but this is about people who find ass mats hard to come by but don't have time to do the Raid (which is actually really short).

The fact you can get destination materials so easy now is good (although it might be overkill at its current state perhaps? lol), but I disagree with people saying the Exotic shard change is for the better. It really isn't. You have to wait for Xur if you don't have spare exotics.

See, I mean, I haven't had max Vanguard marks since maybe the third or fourth week of playing. I've bought some really good legendary weapons and armor since then, so I am never at max marks. So for me, mats still ARE the bottleneck.

I'm not sure how much you play--I play maybe a few hours each week--but the ass bottleneck is real for a lot of us, especially those who are even more casual than me. (I think I have 120 hours logged, which isn't really a whole lot, compared to a lot of other players).

Wow.

Is it too much to ask something for free Bungie? I'd be way more okay with the reset if you'd just stop turning every moderately good update into a grindfest.

I am kind of speechless.

I am one the biggest Destiny fans in the world, I have 3 characters at 29-30. I have played over 500 hours.

I sharded a bunch of exotics on monday to upgrade my favorites only to be told today that I will have to re level each one and spend another shard..

ontop of that I have to hope that a Xur has my exotic in stock to upgrade it? Also you have to be 30 to lead a raid group, I have raided every single week since it came out and have one character at 30 the rest have had bad luck.

WOW.

I Cant.. and I fucking LOVE this game.
Haha I was mentioning this in the OT. My roommate just broke down some exotics for shards to upgrade other exotics. Now it was all pointless, and he loses all those exotics he broke down. The fact that they didn't bother to mention this plan before people used their shards is pathetic.

This is truly blasphemy. This is their way around making new guns i.e. "more content". Please backpedal on this Exotic reset at the very least and most people will be happy again.

I really regret preordering the expansion pass. Bungie have done everything humanly possible to drive players away from your game. You guys seem utterly clueless as to what you are doing with some of these changes.

So can someone confirm for me:

All my raid gear is now obsolete. There's no upgrade path. I'm now expected to continuing raiding weekly for the chance (with my luck meaning it won't happen) to get the new higher level raid gear. For my exotic year I have to wait until Xur has the upgrade, buy an upgrade, spend 7000 glimmer, level it again, and buy an exotic to finish levelling it? All the while essentially permanently stuck in level behind all of my friends unless I get really lucky - which has yet to happen for me.

Is the bolded true? This is what I was asking about earlier in the thread.

Given two pre-DLC exotics of the same type, is it the same cost and end result to upgrade them both?

I agree but this is about people who find ass mats hard to come by but don't have time to do the Raid (which is actually really short).

Exactly.

There are people that do not play on Friday and Saturday, Bungie. What about those people? Fuck em right?

This weekly Xur bullshit needs to change. He needs a permanent spot to sell his wares if he's going to be essential to leveling up gear.

So basically my son was ecstatic to get the Thorn bounty done, and he has been maniacally working to level it to get Mark of the Devourer. He finally got it and is crushing pvp more than usual.

So this change means: If the Thorn is to reach the new level caps, (to hang in the level 30-32 game) I would have to spend coins to buy shards to respec a gun that he just spent hours and hours filling in circles? I mean hours! H.O.U.R.S. even with telemetries!
He would have to do all that... Again?

Please tell me I'm misunderstanding. That instead, Bungie will add one or two or heck, even another column of bubbles (to existing maxed exotics) to accomplish the same thing.

Not. All. Of. Them.

Please guys, don't take a wizz on someone's head and tell them it's raining. Sad face.
