Destiny: Exotic weapons fixed.... and then broken.

So can someone confirm for me:

All my raid gear is now obsolete. There's no upgrade path. I'm now expected to continuing raiding weekly for the chance (with my luck meaning it won't happen) to get the new higher level raid gear. For my exotic year I have to wait until Xur has the upgrade, buy an upgrade, spend 7000 glimmer, level it again, and buy an exotic to finish levelling it? All the while essentially permanently stuck in level behind all of my friends unless I get really lucky - which has yet to happen for me.

Well the new raid starts at 30, so it will at least get you going for that, but otherwise, yeah pretty much.

For anyone interested, I've created a Xur simulator to calculate the probability of rolling the exotic armor you want next week. Results are in for Week 1:

LVQyfhw.png

Bwahahaha.

You play to enjoy the game not worry about your "hard work" being moot when more content comes out. That's pretty standard for MMOs and other MMO-like games. It should of been fun getting the old gear and to level 30 and now you should have fun trying to get the newest gear to level 32. If you are really that upset your weapons and armor are mostly going to be obsolete (they are even giving you an upgrade avenue!!) then you are playing the wrong game

Case in point. Umm how about you having fun? If you had fun doing it, then who cares, you'll have fun getting the new stuff and/or upgrading your old stuff again. If you didn't have fun doing the old stuff why the hell bother playing the game?

-Have you played an MMO?
-Have you, from playing the MMO, seen how long they take to make whole sets of gear obsolete?
-Have you tried a F2P game like Warframe? How does that compare to Destiny in your opinion in doing this sort of thing?

You can go back to see my posts on how I play Destiny for fun, but to say we should just accept it and throw our very recent playtime we put into it in the trash just to do it all over again for fun is hilarious to say the least.

Just so you know, grinding isn't fun and this update means that I will toss several weapons that I enjoy using for fun or for utility in storage because I'm not going to grind all that exp and glimmer all over again even with my friends playing with me.

Dear Bungie,

You are stupid. You are sooooooooooooo stupid. Do you even play your own game? Do you ever drop in and chat with randoms? Decisions like this make ZERO sense to the community. There is no logic in it. Admit your poor planning in the game design and give us the new bump for free.

I am only missing 3 exotic weapons and 3 exotic helms. Everything else I own and have maxxed. I maxxed the last ones last week. I am very glad I'm not getting the dlc now, because this move would totally destroy my personal end game. My end game is owning all the exotic and raid pieces maxxed out. I'm only doing this for the base game now. The collectathon must end. PEACE.

You know look, I hate to bloviate on this, but this is what really pisses me off .........

WHERE IS THE COMPENSATION FOR ALL THE TIME, EFFORT AND MATERIALS I SPENT UPGRADING MY WEAPONS!?!?!

In my opinion it is BS enough making me have to buy an "upgraded" version of the weapon I already own. However, you also totally discount the fact that the weapon is upgraded? A new version of a weapon is treated the same as a fully upgraded one? There is no compensation for all the expense you went through to get that weapon maxed out?

How is this even allowed to happen? It is a complete disgrace!

I completely understand that every game is technically a time sink--but most reward you for your efforts and time.

Moves like this show a complete disregard and lack of respect for the players time.

There's a reason why, when MMOs make big changes (such as a leveling system or skill tree), they reset you to zero and then give you all the points you had previously earned, so you can re-spec how you want. Why? Because you had already played and earned those upgrades/spec points.

DeeJ we know you're reading. You wanna pat this guy on the back or something? A hug? He's clearly not getting anything else for his time so you could at least give him a little love.

I don't think its unreasonable at all.

If I have a 0% upgraded ice breaker and a 100% upgraded ice breaker, they both become 0% upgraded ice breakers+ when I trade them in to xur.

It makes no sense. It should at least refund some/all of the materials and glimmer that it cost to upgrade to whatever level the weapon was at.

Wow. Yea um I agree. This is 1 step forward and 3 steps back. Just wow.

3 steps back is generous. I LOVED their latest patch and nothing has drove me to stop playing (or even close to) and this is getting me really close. If I didn't get this expansion, I'd be done.

Elaborate which part you dont understand?

The fact that i am not happy about this change?

Or the fact that they chose a half assed method, but still understandable with in realm of its lunacy?

Or the fact that it be easier if they would let us levele more then one weapon and armor peace at a time?

So basically my son was ecstatic to get the Thorn bounty done, and he has been maniacally working to level it to get Mark of the Devourer. He finally got it and is crushing pvp more than usual.

So this change means: If the Thorn is to reach the new level caps, (to hang in the level 30-32 game) I would have to spend coins to buy shards to respec a gun that he just spent hours and hours filling in circles? I mean hours! H.O.U.R.S. even with telemetries!
He would have to do all that... Again?

Please tell me I'm misunderstanding. That instead, Bungie will add one or two or heck, even another column of bubbles (to existing maxed exotics) to accomplish the same thing.

Not. All. Of. Them.

Please guys, don't take a wizz on someone's head and tell them it's raining. Sad face.

Sadface

3 fucking months in. 2 months from the raid was released, and everything from the raid is obsolete. Fucking hell.

This is the question of the day for me. I don't waste time in this game. I get an exotic and max that thing out quick. I grind and do bounties for all 3 characters, trading guns and making sure it gets all the exp it can. Now my 300 is being treated like I just bought it? My effort and time mean nothing? Who decided that this is ok? Who are they trying to appeal to with this kind of logic? I can see Bungie now...

"Hey day 1 Destiny Supporter, we see you've been putting in some work. You're a couple hundred hours in and those guns/gear look great!! We want you to pewpew to the max so when we drop the DLC, we're going to give u a chance to enhance some of those guns you've been busting your ass to level.

We know how much u enjoy the gameplay...so as a favor were going to drop the exp on the gun to zero! Take this as a moment to really dig in and enjoy the new content, repeatedly, as you've been doing with the existing content. We know u can do it guardian! And trust us, once u get that gear up to level 32, you'll thank us. GODSPEED!"

Sigh. And the first thing I did when I get home? "Xbox on....go to Destiny". The fuck is wrong with me?

Normally you would just get a whole new tier of items and your current stuff would be trashed. This allows your old exotics to be recommissioned for current tier. I much prefer this than having to go and get all new tier exotics.

Yeah that's the thing. But, I see people like to complain just because they have to do something more. They could have just left old gear as lower level, thus trashed. At least they are giving people the ability to upgrade them.

Besides, they don't require ascendant materials anymore, so the upgrade process isn't as arduous as it used to be.

The best bet will be to look for new gear, but if you still like some old gear then you have a chance to upgrade it. I don't see this as such a bad thing. Doesn't hurt the fact that I haven't fully upgraded any exotic weapons yet though.

But it's just a matter of if you like playing the game, if you like leveling up the weapons. If not, well, you don't have to. It's not like the game is going to change drastically at this point.

I don't think this is exactly true. The person who spent all that time maxing an exotic will start with causing 301 damage with. I perks (have to re-grind them). The person who has a freshly minted exotic will start off at 260 with no perks. The only thing you are doing all over again is grinding perks.

Would you have preferred your 200k XP just be wasted on a gun that is basically useless or spend time playing the game and making your gun more powerful?

There is nowhere in Bungie's statement where it states you are only grinding perks. Please show me where you got this information because that would be a lot better than what I think they want us to do which is start leveling the weapon all over again

He wouldn't need to upgrade the gun for PvP but if he plans to use it for PvE then yes.

Even refunding crap is a slap to the face, for me. Just give me some upgrade bubbles!

I love how naive Deej's quote about removing ascendant materials from exotics is.

Is it just Deej or does Bungie as a whole really have no idea what's going on?

Ascendant materials are most certainly the bottleneck now that planet resources are fixed up, especially if you don't have good access to non matchmade modes. I got four ascendant materials from the daily story today (two for completion, one from sharding a legendary set of armor I got from it). That's 2/3 of the way down one perk on my five legendary items I'm trying to level. Without time in the raid (which I haven't done yet) it will take me a few more weeks to finish leveling that gear.

This.

Yeah, go ahead and get to raiding. You'll be drowning in ass shards in no time. Raid gear will allude you like a mother***** though. That's the real grind. Raid gear.

I have 3 characters, one at 30 and two at 29 so I can raid often and multiple weeklies, etc. I always have a lot of strange coins & motes. If I was smart though I would have made two characters of my favorite class so I could raid twice a week for the same class and increase my chances for raid gear. Instead I have a Lock, a Titan and a Hunter. That's my bad for not thinking ahead.

If that's how it works then yes, that's complete and total batshit. You can't remove the fruits of a grind and replace it with nothing.

I can't believe that's actually how its supposed to work, really.

So all the time i have spent upgrading my Exotic weapons was for nothing? Fully upgraded exotics shouldn't start at the same upgrade path as non upgraded ones, since it simply benefits people with non upgraded exotics and makes us all who spent time, materials and experience upgrading them look like fools.

Yep.

Before the info we got today I played a bit and did some bounties. Put them all toward my Truth. "Almost maxed. Can't wait!"

Aaaaaaaannnddd it was for nothing.

I agree but this is about people who find ass mats hard to come by but don't have time to do the Raid (which is actually really short).

The fact you can get destination materials so easy now is good (although it might be overkill at its current state perhaps? lol), but I disagree with people saying the Exotic shard change is for the better. It really isn't. You have to wait for Xur if you don't have spare exotics.

I'd do the raid if it had matchmaking. It's a pain to coordinate doing a raid even with an in game clan as there isn't even a method of seeing who in your clan is currently online.

Yup. It really is ridiculous and makes no sense whatsoever.

The cynic in me wants to think that they know most people will be replaying the DLC content within a week, so this is another way to just lengthen the game.

I love how naive Deej's quote about removing ascendant materials from exotics is.

Is it just Deej or does Bungie as a whole really have no idea what's going on?

They're clearly figuring things out on the fly. I'm guessing their primary team is working on Destiny 2 while their B team is working on sustaining content for the first game.

They have flashes of brilliance that show they are listening, like this last patch for example. So many things were fixed for the better, and things that players wanted. Now this, which looks like they forgot everything they just worked to. It's like there's no cohesive structure in what's going on during the design process of this game at bungie. It's almost baffling to me sometimes. I don't place any blame on Deej, I think Bungie as a whole has just been winging it since the launch of this game. Shooter mechanics can't be beat, but they are sorely inexperienced when it comes to the type of MMO mechanics they have been trying to incorporate (with exception of the raid).

You're raid gear isn't obsolete. It's just no longer some of the best gear in the game. And now, there shouldn't be an upgrade path because that gear is specifically for VoG. The new raid sounds like it will be a lot better at rewarding players. I have gotten duplicate gear and/or no gear for like the last 4 weeks of raiding. The new raid will detect that and reward me with gear I need instead.

As for the exotic, yeah, you are kind of correct. Or you can just buy the item again from Xur and upgrade it then dismatle your lower level one.

Also, I would imagine that the raid is level 30 and then the hard one that's out in January is level 32. So it's not like you have to rush to get all of your gear to 32 to do the raid, you can do it right at the start.

I'm not sure how I feel about this Exotic weapon exchange. On one hand, it stinks that you lost progress on a weapon. On the other hand, you are getting a better exotic item that you don't need to wait to drop. I think this is a decent compromise between leaving the exotics at level 30 and making it super easy to get a level 32 weapon.

I am very glad I'm not getting the dlc now, because this move would totally destroy my personal end game. My end game is owning all the exotic and raid pieces maxxed out. I'm only doing this for the base game now. The collectathon must end. PEACE.

I have no idea what you expected.

I don't understand why Xur or Eris doesn't just have a weapon modification that cost 7k glimmer and needs a shard to add bubbles to get the guns to the new cap.

If they announced this back when they made info about the upcoming DLC available, I wouldn't have done any of the things I did. Levelling Truth, IB, farming the mats for those, Gjallahorn, and P&T...

Ugh I can't believe I lost exotic shards...

I just posted the point to KingGothalian (#1 destiny streamer) and he agreed.

Xur needs to be there more than just Friday or Saturday, because for people who work weekends are fucked. They will NEVER be able to upgrade their gear now.

So either Xur stays all the time, or Bungie is just saying fuck those people.

Yes, I've played an MMO, this happens all the time. I'll give it to you that it is definitely not this quick for gear to become obsolete. I have not played one like Warframe. I still stand by my statement that if you are really getting upset by this then you truly aren't playing the game for fun. The grinding should be fun, I never understood doing something that wasn't fun. And you don't need to grind, for all anyone cares you could get all that back just playing strikes and goofing off with friends over the next couple months. It takes longer than grinding 3 characters each day to maximize your output, but then you are just turning it into a job of something you "need" to do, which isn't fun.

Edit: Just highlighting what you said. It should be fun do to it all over again! If it's not then go play something else or stop complaining. Just my opinion tho!

Destiny is best played when it's not ;) If the gunplay wasn't so good I would have been long gone.

or allow us to do business with Xur via the companion app.

I can use the auction house in the WoW app, and that thing is like 5 years old.

The biggest thing that has put me off this game is will this happen after every level rise? So basically I max my level 32 exotic then in three months when the next dlc hits and most probably level rise I will have to do this crap all over again?

I don't understand why Xur or Eris doesn't just have a weapon modification that cost 7k glimmer and needs a shard to add bubbles to get the guns to the new cap.

I'm going to go with "No."

The upgrade path should just be patched in. Your current 300 now goes to 3__ with another column of bubbles and that should be it.

Making you pay on top of all that grinding is just. Awful.

They KNOW we are all hopelessly addicted to getting the new weapons. Because I have a Horn doesn't mean I don't want the Dragon's Breath.

But come on already.

DeeJ we know you're reading. You wanna pat this guy on the back or something? A hug? He's clearly not getting anything else for his time so you could at least give him a little love.

Deej:"He's reacting the wrong way. That's the real problem here."

....I can hear him saying that.

Yeah that's a good point. They should have him stay through Sunday. If he stayed all the time they could just have the stock refresh weekly and then it's fair for everyone.

DeeJ @DeeJ_BNG · 2h 2 hours ago
@Honeymaid Sometimes facts are just repeated inaccurately. For example: You can upgrade more than one exotic per week.

lol hold on here, where do I start? Thanks for the opportunity to upgrade reset more than one exotic weapon a week, using new currency?

Who is willing, or even can, fully upgrade more than one exotic in a week anyway? What percentage of the player base is this catering to? That's the inaccuracy you're focused on? Really? I'm using a lot of question marks???

While I agree that Xur should be here more, I am not aware of any job that requires someone to work for 48 hours straight. You can log in and get to Xur in under 5 minutes. :p

Even refunding crap is a slap to the face, for me. Just give me some upgrade bubbles!

They don't even need to add bubbles, just trade to xur for a gun that has the last three bubbles unleveled, but with a higher base damage.

Edit: actually, it should be the gunsmith. Xur is being used for too much, and the gs has been useless for end game stuff.

The quality of Destiny's gunplay is matched only by the hatred it's gameplay gating design team has for the players

But wait. Do reset exotics start at 302 or something? That would make a reset somewhat more worthwhile. But then again, I take it you are losing your perks and leveling up to the second perk already takes days of hardcore playing.

I'm going to go with "No."

well you know that does make sense, I guess coming from the horrible situation the game is currently in for upgrading exotics you forget what is actually reasonable.
