Destiny House of Wolves Reveal Thread

Is the raids point confirmed? They very carefully did NOT include those in their reveal stream last week and I think they say the list 2-3 times? They said NF, IB, and PoE but they never mentioned the raids....

It seems very weird if it doesn't but who knows?
That IIRC is important, because apparently I didn't. :p

From the earlier discussion it looks like it's nigthfalls, PoE, iron banner and Trials. Raids were apparently my hopes and dreams.

Next DLC is supposedly the major "Comet" update, and that's not expected until September, so hopefully Bungie will add stuff in between to cover that fairly large gap.

Expecting anything major from HoW to Comet's release is foolish. It's like a 3 1/2 month gap, they'll tweak stuff, but what sense does it make to add in actual content before the first real expansion hits? Where would they pull the content from anyways? lol

I'm going to ask this here because Ghal is around and I would like his and everyone else's input.

Closer to HoW launch we could really use a dedicated Xbox Raid/Osiris/Fireteam thread because myself and i've seen many others mention that the Destiny OT's are really playstation user heavy and the fireteam grouping that happens in them is almost exclusively PS4 users.

If no one else want's to make the thread I will but I'm just wondering if the mod's would have a problem with it.

Osiris needing teams of 3 and Raids being relevant from a loot standpoint again are the main driving forces behind the idea. I'd much rather pleasant gaffers than the groups I've gotten from LFG

Yeah. And Bungie doesn't add content with their updates to begin with - they add or update systems and features, but not content. It's reasonable to expect that to continue, but I doubt there's anything huge after HoW; they'll be very focused on Comet at that point.

The "raid like thing" mentioned in the Reef stream doesn't sound like it's going to be included with HoW. It's likely going to be released after and before Comet/Plague of Darkness if it's not included.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. We know about Prison of Elders, which while not a raid is the big PvE endgame activity in HoW. We also know they are preparing a new raid for the fall, which is quite likely tied to Comet. Is there something else they mentioned? I watched that stream but don't recall anything else.

I never mentioned expecting anything major, but even some variation in the meantime would be nice.

Now we know why there's no custom games in Destiny - it's so they can sell us custom gametypes as new features!

I'm still pumped, it's just kinda lame. Bungie should have at least showed it off on a new map with players using new gear.

They did. But rather than make it another part of the stream they had a bunch of YouTubers come and capture footage of them. You can find out anything you want or need to know about them on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/agkQaIyWmN0

As to your point about selling us custom matches, literally none of the new game mode types for PvP have been paid DLC, just free updates with the maps being paid. Why do you think this would be any different, or is your comment just about "selling the idea of" rather than literally sell us something?

If they allowed custom matches they wouldn't really be able to reward loot for it since people would be game the system.

I don't think anybody is realistically expecting any sort of XP / reward drops in private lobbies. People just wanna be able to easily set up competitive / fun matches with their friends.

My clan set up a 6 man FFA in the Rumble playlist by setting up two fireteams of 3 and launching the search at the same time til we found each other, that was some of the most fun I've ever had in Destiny. I think one of us did get an Exotic drop after one of the games but nobody cared lol

Some extra info.

Crucible marks and rep are doubling across the board

Trials passages cost 100 glimmer

There are 12 new legendary items that can drop in the Crucible

Etheric light is a guaranteed drop at level 3 and level 5 of Iron Banner

If you ascend an exotic, you will not lose progress but will have to continue leveling an unfinished item

Crucible rewards have doubled in their frequency and the better you play, the more likely the reward

Dark Below crucible maps will soon be free to all

Trials matchmaking (to clarify, this is between your fireteam and your opponent. You must make your own fireteam) will choose connection over skill

There will be an Elimination Mode you can play all the time (Trials minus the bells and whistles)

Completing the daily crucible objective will give you a reward package that will contain Passage Coins for items that will help in Trials of Osiris, glimmer, motes of light, and more.

:O this sounds all good and stuff but still disappointed in the new mode.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYpJr-jT6CM#t=427
i reaaaaaaaaallly wish they would just up the CMarks to 400 or something... and let you get 200 per week.

If they allowed custom matches they wouldn't really be able to reward loot for it since people would be game the system.

Disable loot for custom/private lobbies, obviously.

Make it (win or lose) a flat 1 mark and 10 rep per match. Make it possible to play just private matches and still buy good gear if you really do not like regular PvP, but slow it up to prevent gaming the system. "Play it your way," if you will^^

Disable loot for custom/private lobbies, obviously.

My point is more that with this DLC they aren't selling you a new game mode, so much as they're selling you the loot and progression that goes along with it. Remove the loot and yes it's just another alternative game mode (many of which they have added for free).

here's a quick summary of what i've gathered

  • 3v3 elimination gametype
  • level advantages enabled
  • first team to 5 rounds wins
  • no respawns; only revives (or sunsinger rezzes)
  • one map per week on rotation
  • one round of heavy ammo after one team has won 3 rounds
  • rounds last 2 minutes
  • a capture point will spawn in the middle of the map in "overtime" after 2 minutes. whoever caps it wins
  • will not matchmaking teammates. need premade team to match against other premade teams
  • players matched based on connection instead of skill
  • you match a different team after every match
  • quitting counts as a loss
  • you can cash in rewards after different amount of wins
  • 3 losses and you need to buy a new passage to enter again. there's no caps on how many passages you can buy
  • you can "forgive losses" or "add wins", but the coins required to do so are rare and drop from other activities
  • event lasts from friday to tuesday reset

nice summary there

yeah that would've went over better. Right now not very pumped/interested. but maybe I'll change my mind down the road.

Really nice.

maybe i'm naive when it comes to armor, but i feel like if any one of them fell down, they'd impale themselves.

Actually, because it's gold it's more likely to crush the person wearing it and becoming mishapen because of how malleable gold is.

...that being said yeah they'd poke their own eyes out. It's kinda cool that Bungie is also putting out Black variations for it.

  • ...
[*]Collect Weapon and Armor Cores in the Prison of Elders and redeem for gear - not reliant on RNGesus for that one item.
  • Materials required for weapon and armor upgrades are greatly reduced.
[*]Conversion of materials from one to another reduces the need to grind for one particular type
Parallels to some of the changes that came with WoW's expansions, particularly TBC, are striking ;)

Pretty annoyed with the lack of matchmaking in Trials of Osiris. I guess I could just use destinylfg if I wanted but that takes too much time.

I don't understand why they don't follow the wow model. Have a trials of osiris with matchmaking that has rewards that aren't quite as good as the trials of osiris that only works with premade groups.

Also, Prision of Elders really needs matchmaking too. I've done raids many many times in this game and it was always through destinylfg and they went fine.

i want to get back into destiny but i have no clue what's happening with it anymore. have they changed the way you level up?? how far can you go without raiding now? i would have liked to try raiding but too much time/effort to try get people to do it. same goes for the weekly/nightfall missions. why won't they just add match making?

Theres a poster on the OP working on a list of changes since the launch that is being planned on going to the HoW OT when it comes out. But to answer your questions, levelling up the same, you can get max level without raiding gear, there's matchmaking for the weekly mission(Not Nightfall though), and there's always people doing Nightfalls anyway in teh Destiny OT~

There's matchmaking in Weekly Strikes. As of now, you can reach lvl 31 without raiding. Once HoW comes out, you can reach max level without VoG and CE.

Have you ever actually tried getting into a raid with people here or on other Destiny sites? I've done countless raids and it doesn't take much effort or time at all. If you'd done a raid before, you'd probably get why Bungie doesn't do matchmaking for them.

I've raided with people here on GAF a few times, but since I'm on Xbox One the pool of players is considerably smaller since most here play on PS4. I've had very good luck finding a team within 5 or 10 minutes using "looking for group" sites. If I already have a couple people ready to raid and am looking for 1 or 2 more, I'll usually go and invite someone from www.destinylfg.net. If I don't have a group and I'm by myself, I'll usually hit www.reddit.com/r/fireteams and make a post and depending on the time of day get between 5-10 messages within a few minutes of posting. I'll invite them to a party chat, and once we have enough everyone will meet up in a fireteam in orbit and we go from there. You'll have much better luck than that if you're on PS4, though, and I imagine it's 2-3 times as fast. It's really not as hard or as time consuming as the drive-by posters in here would have you believe. And once you've done a raid you'd understand why Bungie doesn't do matchmaking for it. Personally, I believe it would be an absolute disaster (unless they had a built-in system to block people from searching for a group until they've fully completed a raid a few times or something).

Weekly Heroic Strikes now have matchmaking, though. Nightfall is still up to you to find two others, still, but I feel like Nightfall would be fine with matchmaking, too.

You can reach max level without touching raids by participating in Iron Banner and getting 3 pieces of armour and having one post-Dark Below Exotic armour. Once House of Wolves comes out you will be able to upgrade any piece of gear to get you to the new max level, which will be 34.

I love how the armor looks but I wish that some of these armors would have better perks, there seems to be a real limited list of buffs unless it's a dedicated exotic.

Anyone having issues with LFG or PUG or just wanting to put something together for end game should be using the100.io .

Wife and I were able to find a regular group of people that play around the same time we do, and have been able to raid and do full fireteam crucible.

Best part of you can schedule your events ahead of time for people to commit to playing with you.

As for ToO I am pumped. I like the elimination variant from what I have seen. It definitely looks like it will be more competitive than IB or Crucible.

While I like the ease and simplicity of matchmaking for IB and Crucible you have to admit that playing with a team who uses voice works better. By nature playing with randoms makes for a less competitive environment because everyone could be pulling in different directions on your team

Sweet looking gear! If the PoE armor looks worse than this I am going to be upset... Crazy to lock such sweet looking gear behind a PvP hardcore mode. Why haven't we seen any PoE armor pics yet?

PvP is potentially always "hard mode", since the difficulty comes from who you are up against, not the mechanics.

If you honestly feel that way, get learning! PvP is mostly learning how to navigate and anticipate the flow of each map and match - you don't need to be a marksman with Hawkmoon to be a good player (though it helps). There is no use being anxious about what should be exciting new content for you to enjoy.

I would say:

Beginner PvP: Learning the various weapons, how to use them and how they are used against you.

Novice PvP: Learning about ammo crates and their timers, and taking advantage of them.

Amatuer PvP: Learning counters to weapons and super. Learning sight lines and advanced map geometry.

Expert PvP: Learning spawn zones, points, and weighting. Which zones to control and why. The ways to approach those zones, break through, and control them as you see fit.

For example. Say you only have control of A on Shores of Time. A Novice player will go and try to cap C from the enemy. An Expert player will run past C to the Sniper platforms to shift the spawns while his/her teammates take C for him.

Nice. Good info I'll have to keep in mind. Like Halo.

this is pretty good.

when i'd spawn C on firebase delphi, i'd immediately rush to A to flip the spawns, ignoring most of the combat along the way. once my team started spawning with me, i would join the fight. i tend to do this on every map, taking forward positions to put pressure on the opposing team while my team moved as a unit (well... most of them do whatever they want, but at least it keeps the other team busy).

one reason i've come to prefer destiny's combat to bungie's halos is because a single player has significant influence on the tide of a match. the gunslinger especially has the ability to break setups at range, which is why it's great for flanking maneuvers.

Been eyeing Destiny on PSN Sale, if I only had some irl mates who had PS4s
Trials of Osiris seams quite neat without knowing anything of anything

You can reach level 32 without raiding btw, Iron Banner is 36 gear. Destiny really isn't the same game if you don't have a large group of players you're part of, I tend to agree with people who are a little irked they have to use outside means to partake in end game activities. LFG is easy and can work, but I've never understood why Bungie couldn't throw people a bone with a matchmaking option. I'd personally never use it because I've been fortunate enough to have a pool of friends that are pretty much dedicated to the game. Would end game suck with people who don't have a mic or drop out? Absolutely. That's why it would be an option.... who knows about getting lucky and finding some people that have a couple hours set aside to knock a Crota hard out. At this point it shouldn't be hard finding people who know all aspects of the raids.

That being said, I don't see Prison of Elders having a matchmaking option.

I've traded PM's with others on this subject. .

I'll just chime in and say this is why I don't really go into the DestinyGAF OT anymore. I unsubbed from it quite a few OT's ago.

Just super playstation heavy and whenever I tried to get a team together it never worked. DestinyGAF is in the community thread. I think a distinction should be made between gaming side OT's and community OT's. A community OT is when its clear there's a distinct community within the game that deserves a home on GAF.

I think it would be better, at least for the Xboners, for them to have their own, thread. I could see who on GAF I could actually play with and we could develop an actual community around it. It's why I loved HaloGAF so much. We all knew each other and played with each other.

The more they reveal the less excited I am about the expansion. Prison of Elders needs to be God Tier content to get me reinvested at this point. :(

No general matchmaking means I'll likely never play this mode... I'm worried about the same for Arena, which is pretty likely at this point, if they'll leave out general matchmaking for a PVP mode... :(

I agree. It's too bad there's no easy way to tag or filter lfg posts in the DestinyGAF OTs.

DeXtinyGAF |OT|. Where starving players are starved even more. Hawkmoon talk = Ban.

I can understand why regular discussion would be kinda split needlessly, though.

Destiny 360/XB1 LFG

I'm not a regular visitor but I find that the actually discussion in the OT is scattered for pages with LFG requests sandwhiched in the middle
