Very patiently.
I think the idea was that some weapons would have a darkness attribute, so that wielding certain types of gear would allow you to side with a different faction. That stuff was obviously cut from the game.I hope they fired the guy whoever came up with the idea that Light levels you up.
So will I have to buy the expansion to get this new levelling system?
This would all be well and good if they weren't making our entire Year One experience a huge waste of time.
IB gear? Raid gear? Vision of Confluence? Felwinter's Lie? Osiris gear? POE gear?
All effectively nerfed. No reason to play at all for the next couple of months, at least.

This is what I dislike the most. All that time and effort put in to get the hawkmoon and the ghorn and it will be useless come year two. I want the ability to bring my fatebringer with me till the very end.
It just donned on me that our year one exotics might be going to waste, near finished grinding out Hard Light for the incoming buff to try it out now it sounds like a waste of time.
Only reason I'm grinding one is because I've watched MoreConsole talk about Hard Light and Necrochasm are pretty good in TTK content.
Now I'm confused.
It's still bizarre to me that people were so insanely hung up on the Light system, or that this change is the thing that makes them want to come back.
The best details about the expansion are actually buried in the Game Informer print article:
-- gain weapon upgrade materials by dismantling old weapons (sounds like an enchanting/jewel-slotting type system, or maybe just the replacement of Ascendent Energy)
--No more class based armor materials (Hadronic Essence, Plasteel Plating, etc). There will be one armor material that can be used by all classes
--Special vendor that lets you pick up any shader or emblem you have already acquired on your account (no more wasting vault space on shaders). Further vault/storage solutions on the way
--Green/white weapons will be more powerful than your current legendaries
--Details about Exotic Weapons -- auto rifle that shoots chain lightning, sniper rifle that blinds enemies on a headshot, pulse rifle that reloads magazine when you land precision shots, fusion rifle that counts as a heavy weapon and acts as a portable rail gun
--Exotic items now have their "defining perk" immediately unlocked (eg You can do a blinding bubble as soon as you acquire Helm of Saint 14, no need to level it up)
--Crucible will have questlines that introduce you to Shaxx and the various faction leaders
Year one exotics will be upgradeable and persistent. Only legendary and below are being left behind In year one
its lacking MM but I leveled up to 34 and never did a single raid. So you can hit max level without raiding.Wow a lot of that sounds good. I was addicted to this game until I decided it was a bunch of bs and haven't touched it since. If the changes are good/fun I'll probably jump back in. The gameplay itself and the first 28 or so levels were very damn fun.
Do you still have to do raids to reach max levels? Is there still no match making for half the higher level shit? That garbage really put me off the game as well.
Based on how they handled the previous two expansions, no. Vanilla destiny owners can get to Light Level 34 today without buying any DLC, I'd be surprised if there isn't some way to get past 34 in TTK even without any paid DLC for those who own the base game.So will I have to buy the expansion to get this new levelling system?
This sounds interesting but I'll wait for release to see if it's true before I decide to invest in the game.
Yes.
If you've never played Destiny before, the price to content ratio for this edition is pretty amazing.

Anyone think selling my base copy of Destiny will be worth at least $10? I was just gonna buy the Legendary Edition to get all the DLC on the cheap. It would cost me $75 otherwise.
This seems like the best idea, won't be fooled twice.
But I really want to see where the game is going instead of being told. Been bitten by Bungie too many times already. I really hope it turns out to be true because I want a game like this in my life, but I don't want to invest too much time in sticks and carrots.Yes.

But if the game's core design is flawed from the start, what's wrong with them fixing it? That's why Diablo 3 is still successful.LOL wow.. bungie just keeps changing the laws of the game every expansion. What next? We can trade?
The core game design shouldve been flawless from the start! -this coming from me who spent ages farming strange coins to get exotic shards just to level up my old exotics (which were actually weaker than the new legendaries i got..) OTL I hate this game..![]()
Sorry if it's been asked before: Will they change the level system per patch for everyone or just for people buying the addon?
