Destiny Reveal Thread

Quest stuff and party invites showing up on the iPhone is so #lol. Definitely something that would pitch tents in a shareholder's briefing but in reality doesn't matter and isn't important. How many people knee deep in WoW or Planetside are checking their phones for quest status stuff, or receiving PMs from their buds because the farmng on venus is rly good rite now lol getting lots of rep.

Sci-Fi demands technology, whether it be beyond our comprehension it doesn't matter, it shouldn't be referred to as magic. Something that Star Trek does amazingly well.

Magic does not exclude technology.

EDIT and magic does not have to be tech, nor does high tech have to seem like magic...

Not necessarily. It could just mean that the servers are different, and the next-gen versions support higher player counts. Along with a PC version.
Player count differences big enough to warrant multiple and radically different versions would have a major impact on the design and balance of the game. Spaces cannot accommodate those kind of player changes without really knowing up front what the player count is.

Asked Geoff if we can expect a story driven single player experience too, or if everything has to be done with other players:

Am I the only one that gets a feeling that the game will try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible? Anyways, I'll wait for a real preview to see if the game might be worth getting.

Just about done listening to Jeff Gerstmann's video about his trip and the Destiny reveal.

I think Bungie could have done a better job describing what Destiny is. The vidoc was half concept discussion, half trailer. I'd have liked to have had a better fleshed out version of either. I'm still very confused about what Destiny is. Sure sounds like an MMO (raids, social cities, dungeons, etc.)

I'm watching the vidoc right now. Looks cool, but the size of the traveller sphere seems inconsistent. From space, it juts way out of the atmosphere, but a view from the ground makes it look relatively small, with it not being higher than some clouds.

In standard MMO's you play alone for 70-80% of the time. So that's pretty normal tbh. I worry Bungie might be a bit too ambitious at this point and this will just end up like any MMO, but then first person, with guns. "collect 10 shiny cores"

I will most likely still get the game, but I'm still pretty ticked at the notion. I'm a little wary about where they're going with the game though. I was hoping for a deep, story driven game with a side multiplayer with MMOish features. It seems like the whole game is centered around interacting with other players, though I hope I'm wrong.

And why is this bad? Games like Guild Wars, Aion, TERA, WoW have stories and they are MMOs. You can also create your own story, memories from MMOs stick with me LOOOOOOONG after I played them

"Collect your weekly bonus"

So loot lockouts are in place. Hopefully they don't try to monetize them by selling reset tokens in the cash shop.

I'm thinking more what your Allegiance/Faction has done overall + What you have accomplished

Have those Kill "Blah Blah" Contracts Bounty
I wouldn't be surprised of some mining or searching areas for certain rewards and items
Real good stuff comes the way of how your Faction plays for the week
Everything resets after awhile via Season mode

I was expecting a bit more out of this reveal.
I guess it was because I was assuming they do it like a COD game. Where we'd actually have a in game trailer etc. this vidoc doesn't do much for me. It feels the same as if the game was still under wraps.

Ask all the people using Blizzards Premium Mobile app that allows you to chat with your Guild, check your armory, and buy from the AH. People like being able to keep track of that kind of stuff when they're away from home. That's an inherent difference in a regular MP mode in an FPS and one that's Persistent with loot. You grow a lot more connected with your characters when you've essentially built them from the ground up.

Get some ChromeHounds style MP in there but large scale and I will be all over it.

This is what they revealed for a game that's been in development for at least three years now? At least the concept sounds pretty interesting, and the art is ace.

It's nice that you completely ignored what I was saying, but I'll explain it to you anyway:

You lot have got people reporting on shite once again.

Except it didn't originate here. It came from 4chan. The thread here has already been modified to state it's fake.
