Destiny Reveal Thread

Meh I'm way more interested in competitive multiplayer in first person shooters than I am in co-op story campaigns. Some of the stuff that they're saying sounds cool but it might be way to ambitious to actually make this work and to keep it all balanced.

I guess all we can do is wait and see but I am definently not as interested as I was before.

Ubisoft and LucasArts didn't seem to have problems showing off Watch Dogs/ SW1313.

Part of that though is both of those games will be out on PC. This however is not announced yet for the PC so how can you show off next gen content on a high end PC when you're not actually supporting the platform?

Bad PR Adam.

My general impression was that Bungie was planning on showing more but the PlayStation Meeting took them by surprise and they were told to withhold information for the event. I know from reading Jeff's Tumblr that the Bungie event was in the works before the PS Meeting was announced.

So more to be shown at the PS meeting on Wednesday??

Man, what the fuck. I just watched the Vidoc and I don't even know what kind of game it is. I mean, I guess it's a shooter and it's class based but that's it. Is it like Planetside where huge numbers of players are battling with each other? Is it just PVE?

Is it a horde mode only game where you and 4 of your buddies are killing waves of bad guys? Because that sounds like the least inspired idea I've heard in a long time. Almost every single game is shipping with a horde mode. I'm not sure what Bungie is doing here. If this is what next-gen has to offer, then I'm out.

Isn't that technically PC footage?

Sure, but I believe LucasArts later said they'll also be targeting "other platforms" and Ubisoft's CEO also strongly hinted at it when asked about next gen version of Watch Dogs. I don't see why Bungie couldn't have done the same.

Or they could've shown next gen footage without saying a word and having everyone wondering whether it was current or next gen.

Why are gamers jaded when a reveal turns out a PR video with artwork and few underwhelming seconds of gameplay that tell us nothing?

That's not something you go all nuts and saying "awesome" every 2 words.

Bungie fucked up by hyping this thing up like it was going to be a huge blowout, if they'd indicated it was 'A first glimpse into the Universe we're creating' or something I think that would have been just fine.

they did indicate this. I don't understand why people are so pissed when all they said they were going to show was a "glimpse".

So, our game is called Destiny.

In a matter of days, we're going to give you your first glimpse into the vision and ambition that's driving the creation of our brave new world. To make room for the resulting chatter, we've launched some official social media channels. There’s a new Destiny page to like on Facebook, a new Destiny feed to follow on Twitter, and a new Destiny page on Google+. And, of course, we've opened a new Destiny forum here on Bungie.net where you can discuss upcoming news.

Maybe Sony at the last minute moneyhatted their next gen reveal and told them to show it at their Sony event next week, and leave out the next gen footage on their 17th reveal.

"While you can play by yourself, focusing on your own journey and completing whatever missions you come across, it's also an always-online experience. What that means for players that don't have an internet connection, or a Gold account in the case of the Xbox 360, isn't exactly clear."

Disappointing for me. They aren't charging a sub, which makes me want to buy it, but they might not let me play it without an internet connection.

:(

Maybe Bobby K fell out with Sony, phoned Bungie and said "fuck those guise";p

Either way it is impossible to say.

Sounds interesting, not having a subscription fee is great to hear as long as they don't fill it with micro-transactions. But yeah, it's baffling that they 'revealed' the game this way. Watching Jeff's videos you definitely get the feeling they were supposed to be showing the game but couldn't for whatever reason.

Most lukewarm highly-anticipated reveal since Wii U?

Also there is now way I'm buying this thing during the first 6 months of release. I anticipate a very extended Beta.

but they are working on next gen versions too. They could show those then.

True, but then what do you do with this ViDoc and other material that was prepped for the reveal? Just reeks of them wanting to get some mileage out of what they had before the next-gen hype train really gets going on the 20th.

Well I expected a game that gives you most of the content with initial cost and a few unlockables with just a few extras you can pay for but are not neccessary.

The feeling I'm getting is that you need to pay for different chapters of the game, different weapons and upgrades. Lot's of Dlc, locked content, etc.

I wanna know how you got all that from 4 minutes of footage, where less than 1 was actual gameplay.

The fuck?

Jeff said they indicated it wasn't this year. So its not that mad it wouldn't come out now.
Why hype what was basically an introduction I have no idea.

Suppose they thought people knew less than they did.

Yea, i'm not really sure why they showed it to the press. The video seems like a perfect fit for the end of the ARG nonsense they have been running all week. Don't really see what was gained by having the press visit them.

I am a bit disappointed with this.

The game looks pretty good, but it's definitely a current gen game, and I'm about done with those.

My only real problem is that there was very little gameplay, we still have no idea exactly how this game plays, there should have been far more gameplay footage.

If the game is truly not out this year, then them announcing it right now makes a little more sense since in that case they're probably really wanting to get it out ahead of any next-gen announcement since it's going to be a while before it's out.

That on the other hand though raises the concern of why it's not out until next year or the vidoc is all they had to show if the game has been in development for as long as they say it has been with the full studio behind it. But then in Jeff's video at GiantBomb he said that the Bungie guys are playing it all the time and they're having playtesters in constantly, so that doesn't seem to make sense either. Confusing.
