Destiny Reveal Thread

Jeff said they indicated it wasn't this year. So its not that mad it wouldn't come out now.
Why hype what was basically an introduction I have no idea.

Suppose they thought people knew less than they did.

How on Earth is this NOT coming out this year?

They have done absolutely NOTHING since Reach went gold. I'm incredibly interested in the game, and it looks to be extremely promising as a concept, but what the hell guys.

Xbox Infinity?

So all the "Windows 8, Loop, Infinity" stuff was right all along. Great, Xbox Infinity always was my favorite name.

D'uh! Thread moves too fast. :)

Sure, but I believe LucasArts later said they'll also be targeting "other platforms" and Ubisoft's CEO also strongly hinted at it when asked about next gen version of Watch Dogs. I don't see why Bungie couldn't have done the same.

Or they could've shown next gen footage without saying a word and having everyone wondering whether it was current or next gen.

Aliens: Colonial Marines seems to indicate it would probably be better to avoid showing footage until the game is close to done.

"hovering masses in the sky" aren't exactly fresh ideas. Then again, what is in this day and age? The Sci-Fi and Fantasy genres are saturated with common tropes and ideas.

What matters is how original you can make something unoriginal, if that makes sense. Though that doesn't make me any less interested.

I know a lot of people are disappointed due to how sparse the details are, but I'm genuinely excited. This concept sounds awesome, I love the artwork and music, and I think Bungie will do to co-op what they originally did for MP play on the original Xbox. I get the same feeling for this title that I did with Halo 1.

I've been waiting for an MMOFPS blockbuster title all gen and it looks like Bungie is going to deliver here.

ALSO - I do not think the timing of this announcement is just a coincidence, being mere days before the PS4 reveal. Bungie hardly showed any footage, but managed to get people intrigued and excited. I expect Bungie to be at the PS4 announcement showing off the game in the best possible light (i.e., next-gen), launching for the PS4 (no exclusive for the 720). Would be a MEGATON announcement, IMHO, and I think that's what happened.

I guess we'll see on Wednesday.

Probably them holding off until next-gen consoles get announced. As soon as the 72 version gets shown and dated, the 360 version becomes obsolete. Well, for me it does.

I love the idea and it will be great to see Bungie take on something bigger than Halo but its next-gen or bust really. Launch title would be perfect.

Hey Goat! I've seen you on Bungie's forums sometimes.

But yeah, I concur. We're obviously just joking :)

PS3 vs PS4 vs XBox360 vs XBox720 vs PC vs handhelds ... everyone can play with everyone..

If bungie can pull this off they deserve a lot of praise!

catching up - is there any reason to expect to see this at the ps4 event other then speculation? looks waaaay too early - but maybe the next gen stuff is more far along?

Looks like it is out this year.

the very definition of a placeholder date, lol

Lol, poor Pachter always gets shit wrong. I remember him saying he expected Activision/Bungie to charge a subscription fee for the multiplayer side of Destiny.

Some guesses:

1. It's an ambitious project
2. They're taking their time to get it right
3. They're sitting on a mountain of gold, so they can do 1 and 2

MMO-like no SP :(

the art and story look good too bad it does not have a SP, as I don't have time to invest in MMOs and its not my cup of tea

From the Polygon feature:

Bungie is careful to emphasize that Destiny's new networking technology is fundamental to its shared-world shooter experience. Chris Butcher, technical director, boasts that Destiny has no loading screens, nothing that will take players out of the experience. The connections between players will be invisible to the user, he says, thanks to "complex but totally hidden technology."

If this works out in the end, color me impressed.

Sounds like the press isn't happy:

They might not show anything, but simply having bungie up on a Sony stage stating that their new game will be out on ps4 would be good news for Sony I think.

It was in Halo 4 lol

Because Bungie definitely came up for the idea for the game they've been working on for the last 5-6 years from Halo 4's development at 343 lol.

Jeff Gerstmann said that other Bungie employees (who weren't part of the presentation) came up to him afterwards and were shcoked when he told them that they didn't show a lot of the game......He said he got a distinct sense that more was initially planned for the event, but got cancelled last minute....He also said that he thinks they might be making at appearance at Sony's event on Wednesday, which might explain why they held back.

Since Bungie's building the solar system, scale 4.5 billion years down into a console development cycle and we'll have a good idea of the timeframe
