Destiny - Review Thread

In a single day you've played this game for longer than any other shooter? I don't consider repeating your Alpha progress through the same zones in Beta then repeating those same zones in the retail release to count when comparing to how long you played other games without a beta. You are compelled to play Russia again for a 3rd time because that's the only way to get to the new stuff.

Wut? Demo/beta/alpha content doesn't count as game content in the final release now? Seriously do you guys think when you post or does it just kind of vomit onto the screen?

The reviews in the OP are horribly written and clearly rushed. Have to wait for the better outlets to chime in.

When you say "I've played this game longer than any other shooter this gen" and it was almost all exclusively during free alpha and beta phases, yeah, I don't see how that time of free gaming on the hottest new game should be compared to the time you spent on another retail game.

I never said alpha CONTENT doesn't count as game CONTENT. When did I say that at all? You're making up words to put in my mouth.

Why not? Game time is game time. I got the majority of my fun out of TitanFall's beta and I don't look back and say, "oh that doesn't count."

Our review won't be done for a long while, but we have a review-in-progress if you want to read our daily impressions.

That was a good read. I'm surprised how divisive the enemy A.I. and PvP impressions are, but I think the treadmill impression is where I was at by the end of this morning before switching back to my breh and I tackling PvP.

If we can't criticize a game without people flipping out we've truly lost.

I do get it in some way. People are having fun, asking questions to their difficulties, with a lot of people coming in and out as they do their sessions. It is a bit of a buzzkill if you're flying high from your session and see someone bummed from their own sessions. But I've never seen such nasty attitudes in an OP before to anyone bringing up a less than ideal experience. Something like the above impressions would get met by 'they fell for hype' and 'maybe they should just play/cover a different game'. I don't believe its everyone or even the majority of the community acting like that, but they are letting it happen for whatever reason.

It will be interesting to see the likely hypocrisy in The Evil Within thread or Dragon Age Inquisition one.

I've played about 14-15 hours and I'd give it a solid 8.5, maybe a 9 after I try the raid. This game is just my jam, I dunno what else to say. I can understand how it wouldn't be for everyone, especially a gamer that is inclined to hate shooters.

Looks like this is going to be the Assassin's Creed 1 of the series. Full of unrealized potential. I bet D2 will finally blow minds.

It's fun. It evokes the same kind of awesomeness as Halo Reach Firefight mode but with powers, leveling, and loot. Looks and sounds good.

But that's like all it seems to be so far at level 6. Haven't done any Strikes though. The story missions are literally mini FFs/horde mode. Go here, activate ghost, fight and defend from the fallen. Fun as hell when it's hard with a buddy.

Yeah.. Seriously I think Destiny is good but I prefer Borderlands. (not joking)

Not joking either, Borderlands and its sequel are infinitely more fun to me than Destiny. Destiny is almost completely devoid of personality and charm. Great shooting mechanics though.

Now it makes sense why they put an embargo on early reviews. They must have seen those reviews and said "Nope" and put an embargo on them.

Strikes are decent alone to awesome with friends, and there's some stuff up ahead that will change things up within that particular moment they do.

But I can't say it's going to change much from that. Have you dived into PvP yet?

Reviewer opinions aside, I am having a blast with it.

Halo I played once, put it down and haven't touched a game since. Destiny, I can't wait to get home and play more of.

Like Borderlands though, it is best played with friends.

Yeah, Destiny just feels so empty. Dinklage is the worst possible first impression and, so far, the story hasn't improved. Hearing from people farther than me...that never changes. Borderlands knew what it wanted to do and it did it. Destiny...well...makes me excited for Borderlands 3! Steal the good parts, leave the awful presentation, win win.

It's not shooters I hate. I absolutely loved Wolfenstein TNO and Metro Redux, both games that likely had a combined budget of less than 10% that of Destiny. Despite that both games managed to bring substantial, polished single player campaigns that felt light years ahead of Destiny's steaming pile of crap that passes for a campaign. I'd say this is not a game you'd buy unless you're really into coop or PvP multiplayer. Even if you like shooters but you need a story and a campaign set in a fully realized world around your shooting mechanics, do not buy Destiny.

The answer is quite obvious.

Gonna be tough to be the best RPG released so far this year.

I wonder if the news of how much Destiny has already sold

will prompt some reviewers to take more time with the game before publishing their verdict since it seems like regardless what scores this game gets it is going to move a ton of units. I don't necessarily think them taking more time with the game will fundamentally change their opinion of it, but it'll be interesting to see...

The No Man's Sky review thread will be one for the ages.

Your post is the one confirming bias by trying to claim that a group of scores including two scores (of 6 total) in the 7/10 range is "good" given you are obviously aware of the current state of the games media. The average review score for games, especially big budget games, has seen a creeping incline even when players don't necessarily agree. GTA IV getting a 98% is just... strange. Apparently the best game ever in the series? Even for smaller games stuff like Warriors Orochi 3 PS4 ended up with an 81%. As a result it changes player expectations. Now when you see an 81% you are thinking games like Warriors Orochi. When you'see a 90% you're thinking games like Rayman Legends. 95% is a remaster of a well regarded last gen game.

What bias do I have exactly?
