This guy again, "holding back content man"

tinfoil-hat.jpg

Huh? Please prove to me that you pay attention at all and find an old post because I don't make it a habit to rag on anything unless its totally valid.

Edit: Kotaku's story has made it apparent that they work on stuff all the time and purposely make choices on what content to finish & release first. Is it all finished? Probably not. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a decision to hold off on finishing some content for this release and focus on it for Destiny 2.

If you have a finite number of resources it makes sense to release something small in an update/expansion and they release a large amount of a content for a sequel product. Maybe Destiny 2 isn't that far off after this release? If so, it wouldn't make sense for them to maker Rise of Iron the same size as TTK.

Bungie has yet to "hold back content". They release what they have ready when it's ready to be released.

With the stuff they've released, it might be a better strategy to hold back on releasing that content. I can make a guess and say that this expansion will have a bunch of remixed strikes and well...retreading old content with a couple new things doesn't seem worth it. Releasing piecemeal for $40 doesn't seem that great for the consumer. Instead of worrying on what to release next a few months down, they should take some time to make a fully expanded game that reuses nothing from previous iterations and that adds new ideas into it that doesn't feel like it's just another bulletpoint-IE 'New raid, new strike'. Destiny is supposed to be a game where you have different experiences with different people, so far it's been the same type of experiences with the same people, the former because strikes tend to be the same, and the latter because there is no good way to meet people in game other than randomly shooting out messages/inviting people through a separate UI.

I was excited for TTK. I brought it blindly. But now? If it's $40, if it's more of the same, if it seems like it's just piecemeal put out to be an appendage connecting towards the next release, then I"m probably going to skip it.

(not to mention their continued focus on PvP stuff over PvE stuff is starting to get grating, the gunplay is great but PvP is so homogeneous that it cancels it out.)

We really aren't getting new species till Destiny 2 are we?

Hurrah for more reskins like the Taken.

Nope.

There was an article on Kotaku saying all future updates to Destiny would be free, i.e. the free updates from the live team like Crimson Doubles and SRL.

Actual expansions like The Taken King and Rise of Iron will continue to cost.

wut haha I thought it was gonna be free from the sound of a post in the overwatch thread.

Maybe they should hold back content and release something proper so it doesn't feel half assed

One thing is for certain, the hard core Destiny audience has sure settled for Bungie consistently lowering the bar when it comes to "content".

I'm realllly curious to see how they rationalize the reason for a new social space.

If they are dropping last-gen, it means all future new content for the duration of Year 3 can remain in the new social space.

It would keep the Tower consistent across both game versions, too.

At a certain point, though, the difference between 'withheld content' and 'content that arrives in a later update than it was planned for because it didn't get finished on time' becomes kind of a semantic one.

How pragmatic of you. Clearly you don't belong on GAF.

I'm realllly curious to see how they rationalize the reason for a new social space.

Since last-gen is potentially being dropped, would they be inclined to work in new, upgraded social areas? That have been made/optimized for current-gen only? (no 512mb restrictions) Which could transition into Destiny 2?

They can't change the Tower or Reef since it still needs to play on old gen. SPECULATING: With a 'current-gen' only social space they might give us a LFG section, a place to read grimoire and/or a 'Barbershop'. Yes, it''s speculation but it's not far fetched. Fans have been clamoring for this since day one.

this is the hive

I hope they're not just hive corruptions. That would be lame as shit.

Yeah it is the hive but look closely. There are few variants that look fallen, the one with four arms and there is another that looks similar to a guardian. Maybe it's just nothing and I'm seeing things.

Its also hard to get excited because you know Destiny 2 is 6-9 months down the road, and will reset all the gear again and probably have new classes and races and stuff. I've tried logging into Destiny a few times over the past six months but just end up PVPing a few games and quitting, all my chars are light 305-310.

I have no inside info, but I wouldn't expect Destiny 2 until probably September 2017 to be honest. They like September as their big month.

That's...not really a semantic difference though. It's the difference between finishing content and holding it back to sell later (the implication being to screw people over somehow), and having plans early on to deliver a certain project scope at a certain time, and then changing those plans. The latter is what has been happening with Destiny.

With the stuff they've released, it might be a better strategy to hold back on releasing that content. It's a little to early to judge this from bullet points, but if it's on par with TTK in total scope, I'd be pretty happy. But I would like to see the game evolve in some bolder new ways, rather than the relatively small iterations on the core game we've seen so far. But I'm guessing we won't see that until Destiny 2.

It's a little to early to judge this from bullet points, but if it's on part with TTK in total scope, I'd be pretty happy. This is what I want right now. More TTK personally wouldn't really make me want to continue playing Destiny. I want different things.

Was that stated (or will it be stated) by Kotaku anywhere? Or is it an assumption based on the knowledge of the old contract stating Destiny 2 would follow Comet 1?

Anything at this point has to be assumption.

Kotaku rumour said that yeah.

No it didn't.

The original article said the raid was cut from House of Wolves. They pulled back on that, however, after a source reached out and said that it was inaccurate.

Nah it's just early hive.

The early fallen concept art is pretty close to what we got in game.

I really wish they went in this direction for the hive though. I wouldn't be mad if the Fallen Mutants looked like this though, these designs are so fucking cool.

I just hope when Destiny 2 launches, they have a year 1 type of expansion pack that goes with it.

I will definitely play this but I doubt it will give us that Y1 feel. Bungie I miss the Y1 feels.

Something else looks like the actually update including the content will be on the 16th of September. Just like TTK destiny 3.0 will launch ahead of the actual expansion.

The Prison of Elders was originally a Raid in the Reef. Early database pulls had it categorized as a jail break if I'm not mistaken.

The Taken King, or at least the Dreadnaught was originally supposed to be part of the base game.

You can see parts of the Dreadnaught in the original trailers for the game. Not to mention Dreadnaught sections and Taken enemies were part of the concept art press images that were sent out like a year in advance of the game. Then when the game came out those images disappeared from Bungie's website along with the Pyramid Dreadnaughts.

They cut a lot of content from the original game.

Ohh, gotcha. I wouldn't mind either. It looks amazing.
