Destiny: the taken kings new approach to story telling

I've always loved the game. I'd finished the campaign end of last year then put it down, but I've always wanted to get back into playing as I personally find the way the game is structured to be hugely replay-able. The random strikes, the bountys, the public events, the grinding for better equip even though the latter takes fucking ages, it's still hugely enjoyable. I don't have any of the expansions so what do peeps think my best and cheapest move would be grab them plus TTK?
Wait for the retail release. Comes with Destiny, The Dark Below, House of Wolves and the Taken King for $60 (USD). If you bought the Expansion Pass now and TTK when it released, it'd end up being ~$75.

I really doubt this. I'm honestly expecting something that isn't numbered (just Destiny: *Generic subtitle that implies it's a sequel*), carries Destiny 1 progress (of course), and has a similar or superior amount of content to Destiny 1. Probably just 4 or 5 more planets/moons or something.

I think people who are expecting this brand new game or even any significant changes to the engine from the next full Destiny game are in for a rude awakening. I'll be happy to eat shitloads of crow if it happens though.

I think expecting a massive change is too much. But Bungie aren't idiots. They've build this engine knowing it had to last them through two generations of consoles.

I would imagine that when they ditch the last generation, they will keep the same engine but use the extra power to create larger area, do more advanced shaders and shadows. But it will still be within the foundation of the current engine, look and feel.

And there's no way they will straight up call it Destiny 2, they've established a tradition of Destiny: Something, and will probably keep doing that and marketing will inform the mainstream base that what is now at retail is the next set of Destiny things to buy.

(And overall I think people don't refer to the original contract between Activision and Bungie enough, it gives a very clear look at the future of that franchise and it's a real world look into how game development business is done, and is probably a healthy reality check for a bunch of people)

I agree with this, I expect them to keep on expanding on the existing game as a platform. No sequels, just YEARS. Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and so on.

Each year with one base "game" (big expansion) and two smaller ones (like House of Wolves and Dark Below) .

At least that's what I think they will be doing. Till the end of time.

I think I'll likely go with the digital version of TTK and skip the emotes. Twenty bucks is too steep for what you seemingly get in return, IMO.

I could have sworn Luke Smith said they were going to address that for people like myself, who felt like they were being gouged for the emotes.

they only said they will add a digital version of that 20$ bundle. But the emotes and shaders/emblems in it are MEANT to be Premium and Exclusive to people with lots of money :D

Can't give a limited edition Ferrari to everyone.

A CELL!!! FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS!!!!

Funny how the Prison of Elders actually has no cells.

Well, if you have previous expansions + game and get the 20$ emotes and shaders and whatnot, you will be paying 60$ for the expansion + exclusive items.

Destiny has changed SO MUCH over the last year. I recommend everyone to give it another shot; Bungie really stepped it up.

So can i solo strikes again or do i require a fireteam when i want to do the nightfall?

required as in i will die unless i have 2 ppl with me.

New GI article today:

Ben: Well, like I said, the story isn’t embarrassingly bare this time around. It’s an actual story, for one. And the game remains a blast to play with friends. I love the grind to collect new gear and weapons, and that push to 40 will really give me a lot of reason to start playing again. Collecting gear remains one of the main reasons to play the game, in my opinion. And now there are even more things to equip.
