Ok what you seem to be missing is to apply to the DeatinyGAF regional group, the clans of each group is limited to 75 people per console, which is why there is so many sub groups to DestinyGAF.

They're probably also saying how Elitist we're being by only taking GAF members.

Yeah I know we're not but you know the perception of this website across various forums, type in neogaf and usually "WHY IS IT SO HARD TO BECOME A MEMBER?" comes up...

Yeah it's true, to be honest it's not even really about size for me, I'd rather have one that is smaller but packed with active members with clips/guides/videos than just a non group.

I do also go on Reddit, but I just prefer here as I like the shield of the membership we have it stops the trolls and "the internet" from showing up.
