From the new Premiere Magazine via AICN:

As read in the latest Premiere magazine featuring Batman Begins, Goyer states the next film will involve the Joker ... "The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down the Joker- .... but not killing him, which is a mistake they made in the first one". The article then says that "In the third, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."

Sounds like the setup for an amazing trilogy (at least, trilogy in terms of original cast ... as I believe Bale, Oldman and Caine all signed 3 picture deals).

For Joker, they should cast:

I like the original Batman, and I like certain aspects of the portrayals of the villains in the first 3 movies, but I can't wait to see a gritty, smart backstory, theme, and performance for the new ones, ESPECIALLY Two Face, who'll get to be a lot more, well, serious thanks to Batman Begins.

As long as they don't call the sequel Batman Continues.

And then the third one Batman Concludes.

Awesome. Really really excited for Batman Begins. Batman deserves these kind of movies and it sounds like it could become an amazing trilogy. Good thing too with Star Wars and Spiderman's run with Raimi finishing up.

It'd be really cool if they could get Hammil to voice over whoever's on-screen as Joker. I really can't imagine the voice as anyone else's anymore.

Vince Vaughn would be a perfect Two Face.

The more I read your posts, the more I think we'd get along.
Both of those are great choices.
If Vince Vaughn can stop being in Swingers for two seconds.

Only thing for Vaughn being Two-Face, I think he'd have to get in shape. Dent's pretty built but he does have a close style and idealisticly's a great choice. It needs to be a good actor though, whoever it is, who can show a lot of inner turmoi and subtleties... and can flip a coin. Perfect Joker though.

The Joker is easily one of Batman's best villains.

I agree with the choice of Brody. Great actor, haven't seen him do psycho but I'm sure he'd be good at it.

I know I may get castrated for this one but, I think that Jim Carrey would be an excellent Joker. He could do a Ace Ventura/Mask/Cable Guy thing.

I think he has the comic chops to do it and can go between that and sinister fairly easily.

Except he done the riddler already

Yeah, I know it puts him out of the running but, I think for the joker you have to cast someone with some comic timing.

PS - I also think he was miscast as the Riddler. They tapped him because he wa "So hot right now."

Carey has the ability to play Joker wonderfully... but they ARE heading in an entirely different direction totally disjointed from that of the previous four films.

With that said... had Bale not been cast as Wayne/Batman, I think he could pull off an excellent Joker. Brody has the build and the capabilities... but... there must be another choice... if not... a completely new face (which won't happen... a look at the cast list tells you that immediately).

Hugh Jackman could probably pull off the Joker easily, BTW. He's a terrific actor with a tremendous amount of range. He may have duties in the X-Men series, however... which would be a crying shame.

Warner Bros. already have their guy for The Joker: Lachy Hulme
He's already auditioned and rumoured to be the strong contender for the role. Guy Pearce is one rumoured actor for the role of Harvey Dent AKA Two Face.

I keep forgetting how much of a British production Batman Begins is

- Nolan
- Bale
- Neeson
- Oldman
- Caine
- Tom Wilkinson
- Cillian Murphy

Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen

The director went to my University too (University College London) :D

To be fair, Cillian Murphy isn't british

Sounds good, I don't mind the break from canon with regards to Two-Face's scarring. It has a weird resonance with the interpretation of Joker as being gay and Two-Face bisexual. They have to go by The Killing Joke for Joker's origin, though. I can't imagine a better one for the character.

I can't think of any actor suitable for them myself right now, but Brody would probably be fine. Nicholson is too old to play anyone but DKR Joker.

Dunno why I posted that really, probly because WedgeX did.

And I agree with the idea of having the killing joke as the basis of the second film. I love that comic. Actually it would have to be over the two films as Ive always thought that Killing Joke was the death of the Joker in a way.

So how many more times will they reinvent Batman? I guess the original line of movies is dead now and they're starting back at the beginning with no Robin again?

Hopefully as many times as they need to get it right. Because the last line made it to Robin doesnt mean it was a success. This is looking like the closest thing to the definitive Dark Knight, of Batman Year One and DKR

there was a rumor floating around a few months back that Nolan had already cast Guy Pearce as Harvey Dent (they worked together on memento) and that he might even make an appearence in Begins. Wouldn't be that bad of a choice IMO.

as for Joker, for some reason i always thought Jude Law had the right "look" to pull off the character, though im not so sure he has the acting chops.

Hell the fuck yeah...funny thing is I still have a hard time picturing Hamill doing Joker's voice, but he completely and utterly owns the character to the point of being scary.

Yeah, he was badly miscast...but in saying that, I thought his version of Riddler was pretty damn solid. Put another way, Forever being a dog had nothing to do with Carey, or Kilmer for that matter.

I won't get into the Two Face role...
