Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

Holy shit that is awful performance for the specs...is this a bad port? The game doesn't even look that great...
As far as I can tell it's a great port.

Runs at 50-60 FPS for me at 2560x1440 with 2xMSAA and all other settings at the "Ultra" preset (except for chromatic aberration and sharpening, which I disabled).

Really good IQ.

I get 20fps at Very High preset with my 980Ti/i7-6700k, which is a shame. Guess I'll have to wait for them to update it a bit, or drop to medium/low.

There's a folder in my docs and one in appdata/roaming. Both are empty. No easy to configure .ini so far. Guess you have to make one or something.

I'll hold off on my playthrough then, thanks! That's what I get for preordering..

The rest is great, 150fps on i7-6700K and 980Ti, some settings like shadows turned to medium. Thinking about setting my display to 100Hz to set the shadows higher.

By the way that "Sharpening" option should be turned off by default, looks god-awful on my end.

Played the first mission, preset high, sharpness off, FoV at 85 %

Got 60fps most of the time, never dropped below 55fps.

i5 6600k, 970 and 16GB ram, all stock.

Seems like a good port?

Is this the final download? Or will there be an immediate patch?

Edit: I don't know why its not displaying the dl speed. Don't know if I can make it tonight or just wait til tomorrow.

What other things would push the hardware then? The AI? I mean it isn't an MMO or anything huge in scale, the main reason most games suffer in terms of performance are that they are pushing the envelope graphically, doing something extremely amazing in terms of AI or Scale or...they are badly optimized or have poorly implemented effects. (Based on my experience being a PC gamer my whole life.)

Like you said, stuff can be borked or the artists don't know what they are doing.

I once knew a studio that could double the amount of player ai in a racing game by turning down the amount of particles in a smoke trail coming off of a rocket.

Just started the first level, everything max but AA off @ 1440p. 6900k 1080sli

Just under 60fps. Lowering contact shadows and volumetric lighting a notch pushed it closer to 90fps, but the IQ drop was noticeable. Will have zero problems enjoying this game.

I do feel like there is some latency with a controller.

So I got literally *no* difference between Contact Hardening Shadows being on vs off in the benchmark. Are people still seeing a performance difference with that setting?

Same here at high with contact hardening and tessalation I average around 47fps with my 970 at 1080p. I got sick of playing with it and just locked the game at 30fps. Was hoping to get 1080p 60fps on high but no dice atleast In the benchmark.

What are these benchmarks doing wrong on these sites? I should know better by now than to trust these raw snapshot numbers, What GPU are you using again bud? I forgot.

I mean based on what you are saying that sounds like a good port.
I'm using an overclocked 1080. I'd say running the highest settings available in the game on high-end hardware at 2560x1440 with 2xMSAA is a good show performance wise.

It also seems to scale well across a wide variety of hardware with its settings, something many recent ports fail to do.

i5 4690K @ 3.50GHz
GTX 970 4GB
8GB RAM

This is what I'm getting on the High preset @ 1920x1080, vsync off:

What graphic option is making the performance so bad?

I just tested contact hardening shadows "very high" compared with "off". No difference in frame rate. Avg 37.9, min 31.8 and max 44.6 compared with avg 37.9, min 31.7, and max 45.5.

Seems like a port where Carmack's tweet is relevant.

Even a 980 barely gets above 60fps on medium. PS4 probably use a mixture of medium/high settings so you need much stronger hardware to just match the PS4. Some pretty bad optimization.

DF will be interesting.

/facepalm. This post taken out of context every time.

I'm getting 55.5 minimum, 67fps average, 80fps max - high presets with tessellation added

Good AI can have a pretty big impact - it's definitely noticeable in Rainbow Six Siege which has some god-tier AI. In DE:MD's hubs maybe there's a lot of AI work going on?

Also I guess it just depends on how the engine handles the load between CPU and GPU for various things.

This is so incredibly fucking stupid.

I'm looking forward to seeing what settings PS4 (which runs 30 FPS by the way, so you have a factor of 2 right there) actually uses, and how it actually compares to PC hardware at those settings.

i7 4790K @ 4.6 GHz | 32 GB RAM | 980Ti OC

1440p / Ultra Preset / 16x AF / No MSAA

Benchmark results:

AVG: 40.9
MIN: 33
MAX: 50.5

Meh, I guess I will use these settings for now. I might reduce some setting if the frame rate bothers me too much. But I must say, the game looks better than I anticipated from viewing the videos, very clean image quality.

I was thinking about wether I want to use M/KB or gamepad for this game, but after a few seconds with M/KB and not finding acceptable sensitivity settings, I quickly switched to my gamepad. Much better.

How's TAA looking? Good solution like Fallout 4 / Star Wars Battlefront?

Better imo. I didn't really like the TAA in F4 / SW:BF, too blurry for my liking. But it looks pretty nice in this game.

I think it's unpacking the game and will start downloading the rest once the unpack is done. Unpack might take an hour or so, depending on your hard drive.

The game has terrible mouse acceleration for me and is super sensitive. Runs at 40fps on a i7 4790k & 1070 on the High preset. Not very playable in this state, honestly.

Can anyone tell me what the steam folder size is after download and decompression of game?

Would like to work out whether to put on my SSD which has about 50gb free or my other drive (non SSD).

Thanks

Is that in the benchmark or in-game?

Medium requires a 1070 to not drop below 60fps. They're also using a 5960x so it's not cpu related. PS4 probably runs at higher settings than medium.

Pretty much every reviewer that's compared the platforms says PS4 is a mix of low and medium, with perhaps a setting at high. So no. This is almost ALWAYS the same too. Every time a new multi-platform game comes out, everyone says PS4 will be medium or high. And lamost every time it turns out it's mostly a mix of medium and low with maybe one setting up to high (usually textures) or a setting that's avialble on PC at high, but rendered/sampled at a much lower resolution (like volumetric fog effects)..

Seems like everyone having problems with bad performance, sigh.
Let's try that High preset if it does anything, should have prepared for this.

Ok I think I found out what the solution to the problem that most people are having.

Turn off MSAA and either put Volumetric Lighting on On or Off. Do not set it to Ultra. Both of these settings are HUGE performance killers.

I'm having no issue at all with the performance.

In fact, I really appreciate the wealth of meaningful graphical options in this port.

(I do have one problem with it, and that's mouse acceleration)

MSAA and volumetric lighting require performance? Who would have thought ;)

(But really, I'm quite certain a lot of the "outraged" people have MSAA on. Probably should have put that [greatly appreciated] setting in an ini file just because people can't be trusted with some options)

I'm getting around the same benchmarks whether I change the texture detail to very high or ultra or turn on and off contact shadows (52fps avg, 30fps min). Is the benchmark just not working correctly? The only setting that made a visible difference in frame rate in the benchmark was MSAA.

I get twice as much fps at 1440p / Ultra with a comparable hardware configuration. That's not normal. Do you have the latest game ready drivers installed? Is MSAA disabled? If this doesn't work, do you have a tool where you can view hardware usage and frequencies during gaming?

Alright, thanks. I have it installed in my SSD, so hopefully I get to run it tonight and post my benchmark results.

Runs pretty great for me so far.

i5 3570k@4.2

980 TI

60FPS avg so far during real gameplay. Benchmark gives me 40 avg but I can't seem to get it past 43 even with everything turned off.
