Developer of 2004?

I gotta say either Nintendo or Namco

Nintendo:

Paper Mario 2, Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime 2, Mario Power Tennis. Oh, and Super Mario 64 DS

Namco: Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and Katamari Damacy. Oh god what great three games.

I'd give the nod to Namco simply because games like Katamari Damacy, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and Taiko Drum Master would've never seen the light of day in the U.S. just a year earlier. Even Drill Spirits wouldn't have come out this year for the DS if it weren't for the new management at Namco and for that I say thank you. :)

I've still yet to play some the Cube's big Q4 games, but I'm going to give the nod to Epic.

UT2004 was god's gift to FPS players.

Valve.

Not only did they release a great game, they also launched an independent distribution system more or less successfully, and struck a blow against Evil Publisher Tyranny in their fight with Vivendi.

I second Valve. HL2 turned out to be my new favorite game, and I've been putting an absurd amount of time into CS:S.

Voting for a developer that's only put out one game this year is the exact same thing as voting for your game of the year. I think "developer of the year" should be reserved for something a little different, otherwise there's no reason to even consider it.

treasure. easily. for astro boy, advance guardian heroes, and gradius v. any one of those games can stand with their best, and of course their best is about as good as action games get.

Harmonix, Antigrav - It's the gaming revolution other companies make all the noise about but fail to deliver.

I really hope Sony pursues a better Eyetoy on the PS3, better camera resolution and image quality, and developers continue to deliver compelling unconventional games like this. Harmonix could single handedly smack down every snowboard game developer with Antigrav 2/3 on the PS3.

As is Antigrav combines my favorite aspects of the coin-op Top Skater with the presentation of Wipeout. Some stages give you an awesome feeling of vertigo. Not to mention the stages are larger and more elaborately designed than I initially expected. Multiple paths and options for reaching the finish line.

Great game.

You bitches left out Ace Combat 5 when talking about Namco....

And DEVELOPER of the year definitely has to be Konami. Goddamn, just take a gander at MGS3. Those visuals are simply AMAZING and it's all done on a PS2. And let's not forget those awesome awesome AWESOME cutscenes. And what about THAT fantastic ending?

Something different? Most developers hav the effort to push out only a single title per year, but i guess you're refering to publisher then.

Kotor made Bioware the developer of 2003, so there's no reason to not nominate Bungie or Valve.

Treasure iz another good candidate for developer of the year, although i think someone should shoot Ubisoft for their awful translation of Advance Guardian Heroes.

I've gotta go with Namco - TOS, BK, Katamari, Taiko Drum Master, Ace Combat 5 ...

Treasure would be a close second - Gradius V, Astro Boy, Advance Guardian Heroes

Team Ninja. Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive Ultimate.

See, you make one good suggestion and then ruin it only a word later, completely wrecking your credibility. (Again.)

Anyway, I'd say Kojima and his crew for Metal Gear Solid 3. I don't want to know the satanic rituals they performed to get that much extra power out of the PS2.

Namco: Ridge racers, Mr driller2 for gba, Drill Spirits for NDS, Ace Combat 5, Katamari Damacy, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and Taiko Drum Master.

BEAT THAT!!1 :)

I don't get it when people name developers whom released only one game.

There's no way Bungie is developer of the year

Halo 2=Overrated

I'd say Namco for Taiko, TOS, Donkey Konga, BK, RR PSP, Ace Combat V, Katamari and some others I forgot.

It's not exactly an even comparison if you pit all of Nintendo against a single dev house. Retro developed MP, Camelot developed Mario Power Tennis, and EAD did Pikmin 2. Pick one.

Look, this isn't a thread about fact or anything. It's each people opinions. Stop being smartass and say things like : This is overrated or underrated. Just state your opinion, and that's it.

For what it's worth, I think the best developper this year isn't a developper, but it's Nintendo. Their Line-up kicked all kind of ass this fall.

Ok honestly, looking at individual dev houses will only give you one or two games a year. :/

Intelligent Systems for Paper Mario 2
Valve for Half - Life 2
Blizzard for World of Warcraft
Retro for Metroid Prime 2

Any these would be my choice!
