Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition trailer

You can't function in this game if you don't have some crowd control attacks. Even Dante has them although they are a bit more limited and less effective. This is especially the case with a mode like LDK in the game.

And I don't think these new characters will have many completely brand new attacks. Probably just borrowing attack animations from previous games. The only real brand new move we saw in this trailer was Vergil's super move.

Give me that Coatless Vergil hotness, Capcom.

And while a physical release would be nice, I also don't mind if it's digital. I need this game in my PS4 by any means.

What surprises me is just how much new content we are getting. DmC got two new cutscenes, Vergil Bloody palace, and a bunch of costumes. Everything else was just changes to existing mechanics. DMC 4 is getting 3 brand new characters, brand new cutscenes, presumably a new campaign for Vergil, new mechanics (as stated in the blog), new playstyles, etc. It's a seven year old game!

No new campaign for Vergil breh. Same levels as Nero/Dante.

Amazing. Never thought I'd get hyped for a Capcom game again but yet here we are.

Day 1. We gotta support this

But also, they could totally just have her bashing enemies with her guns, Bayonetta style. She does plenty of that in DMC3 too.

I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I'm just going to post my initial reactions before watching. I'll post more in-depth impressions and thoughts later.

AAH! New mechanics for Vergil! Moves/mechanics from his DmC counterpart!

LADY! Fucking finally! AND TRISH! Now I don't have to praise DMC2 for being the only game in the series to have playable female characters.

Capcom has been really killing it this year. I'm beyond impressed with what they're showing off here. I really dig that Lady will have a firearm focus, and that Trish seems to be the wild card of sorts.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the costumes they have in store for these characters. I'd be cool with seeing DmC outfits for Dante and Vergil.

Yeah I've been impressed for the most part by Capcom's approach and schedule for this generation so far and we're only 18 months in. To be fair they flew out of the gate last gen as well with some great and fun titles within the first few years before they fell apart. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and won't do the same this generation.

DmC outfit-wise, I'd love to see Vergil's being an option for sure. Dante's would look quite funny on DMC4 Dante though.

There are going to be more costumes in the game.
Playable DMC3 Dante, with his moves and weapons, plus some DMC4 mechanics. Just like they did with DMC3 Vergil.

Would have been a much better choice than playable Lady and Trish, IMO.

How great would it be if they reincorporated Nero's true DT form? I remeber seeing the concept art, and I would've loved to have seen in in-game

No thanks.

Dante is still very much in the game, having an get version of him over brand new characters and play styles is not remotely a good trade off.

Not many brand new attacks, but definitely some, and I'm excited for whatever we get.

I wonder if Vergil still has Starfall in addition to the aerial Lunar Phase...

Maybe it's too much to ask for, but if they can make new characters, I would hope they can add new bosses, even just new enemies.

Is Vergil getting Beowulf gauntlets? Those were fantastic in DMC3SE. So much fun to use.
Yes they are in the trailer. He also seems to have more aerial attacks, so directional aerial attacks like Nero. Guess the cloak baby theory isn't true, but I wonder how they will tie vergil into the story, or I'd they will leave a teaser at the end leading to DMC 5.

DMC3SE gave us one more playable character (one and a half if you count Corrupt Vergil's Nelo Angelo DT) and one (kinda shitty) new boss fight.

This is giving us way more playable characters. Gotta wait and see if we get any new bosses though.

DMC3SE's Jester boss is basically there to give you a massive Style experience bonus. Maybe they'll make an optional fight that gives you a huge Proud Souls bonus?

Just saw the trailer. Without reading through the threads, did anyone else notice that Kazuma Kaneko is credited with illustrations at the end? The only dates are 2008 and 2015, meaning he has done new designs for the game and it's not because they're reusing Vergil's DMC3 DT design.

I think it's exactly because of Vergil's DMC3 DT in DMC4 that they have to specify 2015.

so, um

the way the stuff is formatted with playable chars, i think the way it works is that lady and trish have a tag mechanic of some sorts

or a co-op mechanic or something because they're paired together and lady specifically isn't really a melee based character

'cuz it's [LADY&TRISH] mode, unlike [VERGIL] mode from the original reveal + Lady-Trish for the end of the trailer under playable characters

so with more playable characters, is the story model expanded upon a lot i guess?

For Trish/Lady, I imagine we'll get a very sparse 'meanwhile' type adventure, but nothing of any substance.

For Vergil, any amount story is a huge expansion since he had none in the original release.

Considering this releases during E3, I'm sure all the 'new story' will be saved for the obvious DMC5 game that's going to be shown.

Lady plays Nero's levels and Trish plays Dante's levels, that's why they're grouped together.

No it's basically like running through the campaign as Nero/Dante. Nero missions are done by Lady (because she has the grapple mechanic) and Dante missions are done by Trish.

Think of it like 3 modes in the game:

Nero/Dante
Lady/Trish
Vergil (who can play the entire campaign by himself)

Man it's going to be a HUGE pain in the ass to level up all those characters and gain all the difficulties again.

I really hope they don't divide up the difficulties among the characters... that would be pretty lame.

not sure if to be disappointed about no tag mechanic or even more excited because it means the characters are guaranteed to have fleshed out movelists

Just proves how excellent Capcom's art is. Bump up the resolution and it still looks FANTASTIC!
Also, hearing the main fight theme again put a grin on my face :)

They have to have enough tools to handle every enemy and boss in the game. I expect them to have about as many moves as Nero (with Vergil having higher amount of moves).

Shame that there is no additional campaings but I'm actually way more interested in seeing how Lady turns out than Vergil. I think DMC in general could have a lil bit more flair to the firearm fans.

Honestly I'm getting the feeling REmakes success in the digital market might have killed some of Capcoms interest in physical releases of remasters (and they have been at it before with earlier RE remasters). DmC being the oddball.

Sooo....

Do people prefer a DMC5 after this... or a DMC4 Definitive Edition with playable Credo and Gilver/Tony Redgrave Alternate cutscene storyline mini-story mode?

I think it's exactly because of Vergil's DMC3 DT in DMC4 that they have to specify 2015.

Yeah, I took a closer look. Definitely his DMC3 DT. Which makes sense, considering his story is a prequel. I thought it was weird they credited him for 2008, and looking again it's not referring to Kaneko.
