Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition trailer

MCV said "DmC: Definitive Edition sold "28.8% of the Week One sales of the original release"."

No one expects a remaster to sell anywhere close to the original launch.

Not saying that DmCDE is selling particularly well because I've also heard that it's not. But that particular statistic doesn't really surprise me.

Yeah, for a digital only title I would have thought it'd be closer to Resident Evil HD.

What makes me think it should be closer to $20 is that unlike DmC, they're releasing it on the PC. $40 is a really tough sell for the PC version even with the extra playable characters when there's already what's been considered the definitive version that runs like a dream at high settings with the extra modes the consoles never had.

The Steam store page is up, but no pricing yet.

I haven't decided yet. If I can find a cheap enough proxy, I might just go through them. Others in the thread have used nin-nin and they come recommended.

If you're not interested in getting the big LE bundle, you have more options. You could go AmiAmi.com.

I checked nin nin and they don't offer it yet. I wanted the LE. It's funny I am looking for a website that can sell the Phantom Pain console as well.

He's back, and even more motivated!

I dunno. That seems high to me even though DmC was $40.

It's possible (albeit unlikely) that we'll get it cheaper outside of Japan because of the digital only nature. Was REmake cheaper for us than the Japanese retail edition? Same for Okami HD on PS3.

There's a ridiculous amount of added content for the price, and arguably more than DmCDE. They haven't even revealed everything yet.

But there are always Steam sales.

I think it depends on which version you're coming from.
Considering the RE:Remaster had no recent version at all and was $20, the base season pack of RER2 which is brand new content was $25, asking $40 for the new PC version seems out of whack. If this was PC only I definitely would not consider $40 a reasonable price point if I had the existing PC version.
I can see how it's a tough spot for them to price the PC and console versions without one seeming overpriced. Perhaps that's why there was no DmC PC upgrade.

Trailer and screens are up on Gamersyde.

60FPS trailer on Daylimotion.

Youtube versions of Vergil,Lady&Trish themes from DMC4SE site.

I found this on twitter , gameplay parts are slowed down so you can see every move.We need gifs from that video.

Ugh, those sound awful, but i suppose for a battle theme the Vergil one could work, Lady/Trish i was expecting something like the one on MvC 3, similar in tone, maybe using a bit of piano.

oh well, the series always has been very inconsistent on music

The Lady/Trish theme doesn't really sound like a battle theme at all. And the Vergil theme is underwhelming (doesn't help that he has some fantastic themes in DMC3 and Marvel).

I think the Vergil one is ok, but wubstup was something DMC4 definitely should not have taken from DmC. Most people seem to mute the battle themes anyway, but I would have appreciated a remix of Vergil 1 or 3 theme..

edit: nvm

edit: Plus did people notice in the trailer Berial's "You're not human" line sounds different from his Nero exchange..

In a way that is not a bad idea, Vergil had an awesome theme on DMC 3 but they could come up with something good and different for other games but. execution is everything,

Berial sounds the same to me, maybe its how the sound was mixed?
he only could say that to Vergil or Trish but they arent going to waste a cutscene on him,

I will probably get this as I never did finish it on PS3, but part of it was because of the backtracking. Still, I do want to play as Trish. ^_^

The Devil May Cry franchise continues it's streak of poor music choices. Masami Ueda is spinning in his grave.

Why not just import Vergil's theme from UMvC3?

You know it's getting bad when I'd rather hear "Taste the Blood" or "The Time Has Come" for the umpteenth time than whatever...those clips are supposed to be.

So I'm assuming that blackened force edge is Vergil's concentration technique. You can also see a motion blur or something showing repeated frames of Vergil's attack (and black aura coming off hits)... Someone gif that please...

Good idea, i will listen to The Time has Come to get this bad taste out of my system.

It worked!

Surprised we haven't get dahbomb's wall of text analysis, I'm dying for something. I know earlier on he had something, but I need a theory crafting summary..

Wait, this is only getting a digital release in the west? No physical copies?

Edit: Just found out. Am not picking it up now. Will the menus and voice acting be in English? That might sound kind of dumb, but that happens sometimes.

I don't suppose there will be any custom audio options for this game, will there?

I mean, bad comes to worse, I could at least plug in some Bayo1+2 stuff whenever I'm playing as Trish or Lady.

The Vergil theme is just offensively bland, but the Trish/Lady one is hilarious. Do we know who was responsible for these?

Not natively, but it should be easy enough to replace the audio files. Though just muting the music and playing the intended replacement externally would still be the more convenient option.

Not sure that's a safe assumption to make. Remember that Rebellion glows red but leaves a plain black trail in DMC4 instead of DMC1/3's metallic distortion effect.

Yah good point that's probably what it is. Or they could be charging up round trip in the combo..

edit: Any theories on what Vergil's style effect will be? Do people just think it will give his attacks more power, multiple hits, or go faster as he is hit less? I think multiple hits would be cool, sort of like supers in Street Fighter Alpha with shadows adding extra hits..

I wish Masami Ueda would do the music again, DMC1 and 3 had fantastic soundtracks.

Wait, apparently Shibata did work on DMC4 but it wasn't as good

I wish Masami Ueda or Tetsuya Shibata would do the music again, DMC1 and 3 had fantastic soundtracks.

Tetsuya Shibata worked on DMC 4 as producer, i will look for the others.

Here:Shusaku Uchiyama, Kota Suzuki, Akihiko Narita, Rei Kondoh, Chamy Ishikawa and Shinichiro Satoh.
Rei Kondoh has done great things too.

DMC 4 had good tracks, that is just not one of them.

Yea, I'm looking too. He was more involved than I thought, but I still found most of the DMC4 ost to be...unmemorable.

Wow, 7 people contributed to DMC4. I would've never guessed that, given the amount of times I had to listen to The Time Has Come

Rei Kondoh's two boss themes and Out of Darkness (minus lyrics) were decent, but I agree that 4 was largely forgettable. I wasn't really that much of a fan of 3's soundtrack either beyond the Vergil 2/3, Total Result and Neverending Void themes - Ueda's work on the first game is still significantly superior to anything that followed it.

I'm not agreeing with the other guy and I get what you're saying, buy why would they think that? I highly doubt that Japan accounts for much more than 500,000 (it doesn't show up on any lists that I can find, so even this would be high balling it) of the 3,000,000 copies sold. It definitely didn't do a million since it isn't on the million seller lists, so over 2/3 came from outside Japan. Same with DmC. Sold sub 300K in Japan, the other 1.35 million came from outside Japan. In fact, DMC 4 sold 585,000 in it's first 3 weeks in the states.

There is quite literally no reason for them to believe the DMC brand has little equity outside of Japan. Sengoku Basara would be an example of that: it sells 250,000 to 500,000 in Japan yet sells next to nothing everywhere else, hence why no expansions or 4 in the west and why the latest anime hasn't been dubbed and only subbed.

It's the fact that this side of the brand hasn't had a release in seven years. They're understandably hesitant to support a lapsed brand. And if they count the more recent release, then it's an under-performing brand (in comparison with the rest of their portfolio).

Add the fact that this is just a special edition. And add to that fact that some Japanese companies downplay the importance of Western sales, and what we see isn't surprising.

Now, it sounds like there's a good chance we're getting a new mainline game, which is great.

Even so, where your digital purchase might make a difference is when it comes time to decide whether to print a physical version of the NEXT Special Edition, because the first thing they'll look at are sales for THIS Special Edition.

Assuming Vergil isn't going to have as massive a base moveset as Dante, I'm hoping it alters the effect of his moves in more than just base damage. Nero's DT and EX systems change his moves in much more interesting ways than, for example, Dante's DT; I'm hoping that Vergil's Concentration system works similarly.

It's worth pointing out, though, that the Concentration gauge doesn't seem to be gradated in any fashion. Perhaps if there's some sort of "level 1, level 2, level 3" effect we'll see it visually represented on Vergil's weapons instead, but the odds are reasonably high that Concentration will just result in passive effects even though that wouldn't be super exciting.

I'm assuming one of those themes is The Viper, that's possibly the best boss track in the game.

For 3 I'd throw in Cerberus, Beowulf, Nevan, Doppelganger on top of those, and I did enjoy Devils Never Cry (particularly the last bit).

All in all 1>3>4>DmC>2

But what about this one
it just fits perfectly for the last level.

Already mentioned it - apparently its listing on the soundtrack is under "Neverending Void of Hades" instead.

Your assumption's correct, he did that and Dagon's theme. His continual presence on the Sengoku Basara series suggests he'll be brought back for DMC5, hopefully he contributes a little more this time.

I wouldn't completely disregard 2 either - despite being unimpressive as a whole; Ragnarok, Darkness Instinct and Cry for the Moon were pretty good, if a little repetitive.

So it's not getting a physical release in the West, what the fuck Capcom? <_<;

Guess I will import the Japanese release and pray it has the English version on it.
