Its funny, my initial reaction was disappointment at the announcement. An Isekai is not what I wanted or imagined at all. The PS3/360 era colors and textures also do the game no favors. The f-up they had with the initial demo launch also soured me a bit but I held out. Finally played it and wasn't impressed. Being forced to play as characters I don't like at all in any way is a quick way to get me to never touch a game again.
Later on I read some comments defending the game though I took it with a grain of salt. Could be fanboys after all. I redownloaded the demo... again. I've got to say I kind of like the game's base mechanics, but on the other hand I'm still not entirely sold. If I can play as a pretty lady I'll be fine and give it a shot. Its funny to note the systems and mechanics carried over from Nioh 1&2. Both of which are awesome, but this game I feel suffers from a deluge of copied mechanics reformatted to try and fit the FF theme. Nioh at least has the occasional pretty environment, FF Origin is just completely depressing to look at. At least Nioh you can use a different skin or in two, use a custom character, which happens to look gorgeous. How they didn't use that for a game that you make your party is beyond me. For characters with absolutely no soul or depth. Why? Oh yeah, Nomura.
I hope the game is good. But like others have mentioned, who the hell is this for exactly? The hardcore? They'll want something else that is better, and the casuals won't be bothered to suffer through the difficulty. I'm guessing that's why the budget seems so low. And for Team Ninja its a quick flip-job. If I get some female characters and cool bosses, I might pick it up. As a game it has way too many systems going on at once, even more than Nioh. It has its moments for sure, and I always prefer gameplay over graphical fidelity. Even remembering that this is cross-gen on all platforms just about, it still boggles the mind how the game is so damn ugly.
