Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Nice to see how different people think about the classes and how fun they are.
That should make for a nice variety once the game goes live.

I've only had the chance to play a barb for 5-10 minutes at my brothers place. It's fucking amazing though, can't wait to try the rest. I'm still basing my opinion on the same damn youtube footage over and over :P

Guess I'll work on getting one then

One thing I noticed is that just "beating" the beta wasn't always enough to make you feel like a badass. A friend of mine played through as the monk and just didn't get any decent gear/weapons through the entire run. As a result, at least initially the monk came off as extremely slow and underpowered. Until you have some decent items, every class comes off as a bit lacking.

I've gotten in around 50 hours into the beta so far, squeezing out as much as I can before the next wipe/it ends/retail release, and these are my 5 maxed out characters so far, with their main hand weapons highlighted.

This game needs to come out.

I feel like, except Demon Hunter for craftable rare hand crossbows, I should give everyone maces since they seem to have the highest DPS for a 1H weapon in beta.
There are rares and level 6-7 drops from the returned/skeleton king that gives higher dps compared with the maces. They are few though. I have a 1h axe with 26.6 dps and a wand with 27.3 dps for instance.

The only thing wrong with the maces is that the low levelcap prevents better finds :)

Sounds like it's even further from release than i had hoped. Mixed bag on these changes really like the stat change but removing the Mystic really makes me question what's going on over there.

Hmmm and "still not ready to talk about the new skill and rune system."

Can we say Holiday 2012 release? That is the core of the damn game outside of loot.

I know they love to iterate on every minor detail but this almost seems overkill in September they said they had the skill/rune system to a point where they were comfortable with releasing as is but were exploring other options. Now they can't even talk about the changes until a later date?

I like most of those changes.

Also, yay for the return of 'town portal'.

As for other suspicions that post pretty much confirms: this game isn't done by a long shot. June at the earliest, though it's starting to feel more like fall tbh :(.

Honest question now is while nice looking, D3 looks dated (from at least what playing Beta showed me) and if they appear to delay this game for at least several more quarters (if not longer), are they going to go back and re-up the graphics? Seems like a death spiral occuring in development.

Haha, no. The game does not look dated, and no, they will not redo the engine or the assets.

Oh I agree, it was more tongue in cheeck comment redeveloping the engine. Of course they won't.

However, the opinion on it looking dated is mine (at least on my 1440 screen I think it is) from having the Beta and I'll stick by that one.

The game does not look dated

But it does for PC exclusive AAA 2012 game, it really does.

BTW who thought that removing salvaging option from combat areas is good solution? Really, it was awesome feature since day one they've announced it and it was great feature in beta.
And after 3 years of planning they just changed stone of recall to Titan Quest solution? Really? ...

The obviously won't redo any of the assets or engine, but I can see where people are coming from. Graphically for a PC title I would say it looks dated. That won't stop me from playing the game nonstop, but the textures and character models in this game are not very good, IMO.

I'm fairly sure I have progressed to "acceptance" in the 5 stages of grief. By now the game comes when it comes and I'll play it then, looking forward to playing diablo feels like looking forward to winning the lottery. It's not going to affect the end result one iota.

Same. I am accepting that I will play other games this year, not just Diablo 3 as I originally "feared so" :D

Yeah pretty much, this is probably my last term at university and also it's the most grueling/important one for me. D3 would have probably made things a LOT more difficult lol.

Looking forward to the beta patch today, I'll reserve my judgement of said changes until I play them.
Diablo III is gonna release in 2014 now.

I wrote out this really long rant about how these new "changes" frustrate me but basically this upsets me.

Why must they even bother talking about release date windows and stuff when they are still changing the game on a fundamental level. Why do they keep getting peoples hopes up?

Honest question, but are these changes not something they could change in say, patches or just save for the inevitable expansion in a couple years? What about the next list of changes? Or the ones after that?

I love it that they are a company that has the privilege to keep critiquing their work but there has to be a point where it cannot be any more "perfect" and they actually start detracting from the overall quality of the game. This news worries me more than anything of what is to come in the future.

I am still excited as hell for this game though. :/

I was actually quite psyched to see the changes that were coming.

Mostly the stat changes and the return of the town portal were things I liked to see. It means that Blizzard is evaluating game systems and sees if they actually work and are necessary.
If there is one thing that's annoying it's redundant game features. The scrapping of the cube and stone of recall seemed like a logical choice with the return of the TP.

Besides that the stat system now makes sense again. Fallout-NL wrote up a good article about his D3 experience with the beta, also commenting on the previous stat system. I differed from his views just a little bit, but I guess Blizzard has found a middle ground here.
It makes sure that stats are needed for a certain class again, thus adding to the feeling of building character. And takes away the tedious task of having to spend your skills.

Sure reading this article might make it seem (and I do share that view) like the game is still quite a ways away, if it's these kind of changes that are made; I understand.
Then again, we're talking about Blizzard... it could still be released in march for all we know.

I have been PM'd also a few months ago, and I only recognized that a few weeks ago.
I was so angry. Jeez. But, still no invite, and he said I was added! o_o"

I'm really sad- Stone of Jordan and Nephalem Cube were so convenient - now you have to tp back to town again - meh :-( ...

...and still not ready to discuss rune skill changes - december isn't early 2012 anymore...
