Just curious but how big of a performance increase would there be for a game like Diablo and an SSD? I'm on the edge for getting one, however I didn't think there'd be much of an increase considering there isn't too many load times?

(and I rarely boot down my PC, so the fun of seeing it boot up in 20 seconds is moot)
 
Got in!!

How big is the download by the way? Don't tell me it's 15.1 GB. Gonna take me years.

edit: ah, 2gb for playable :>
 
WOW, I'd just like to say that all those months and months of bitching from people about the WoW art style and it looking too cartoony and not dark enough and whatever other BS criticisms people think up to feel elitist: PWNED!!!!!!!!!!1111 This is Diablo, bitches!!!!!1 All that shit was completely bogus. I'm up to lvl 5 on my barbarian and am in The Cathedral and have seen several areas so far that confirm this.

Not really worth it for gaming in general, it's just that the past few versions of the Beta seem to continually stream assets from the HDD even if they're already loaded, and it causes some bad stuttering even on high end rigs, and playing with an SSD would greatly decrease the effects of that issue/bug. I'm sure it'll be fixed before release.

I've been having that annoying stuttering bug when new content streams in so I tried reinstalling to a solid state drive. Didn't help at all.

I don't think SSDs will offer much improvement even if the streaming bug is fixed, seeing as how the load times are so short.
 
Damn, nothing. I want to try this out so, so bad. I've been checking my battle.net account pretty much daily since the first beta announcement but I'm about to give up. I just get depressed after checking my account page.

Why are they so stingy with inviting European players?
 
Ran through it today, took down leoric...

Positives from my single run through..
  • I like the whole crafting idea, its fun stuff, makes trash into useful stuff.
  • My new favorite quote is: "How tastes your fear!" So barb-like haha.
  • Game runs really smooth.
  • I like the little experience bonuses you can get from killing enemies, destroying objects.

Stuff I didn't like..
  • Wish it was actually a beta instead of a demo, its kinda weird how it says "you completed the beta"...
  • It doesn't look very "diablo-y" but its cool.
  • I noticed an animation delay(?) after clicking an enemy, where i wouldn't swing until about half a second later with a barb, but it was only in the beginning, like when i first started...after a while it went away
Some questions..
  • How will the banner system work in retail? Will you be able to plant it wherever you want in game?
  • Is it confirmed pvp is only possible in arenas? No more open world aka outside rogue encampment?
  • Are the things we earn in the beta for our banner being carried over to retail?
 
so i played it for a bit ...was fun, but i noticed a couple issues.

every once in a while the game will 'hitch' on me ...like i'll be running along with nothing really going on in the game and the game will produce like a 1/2 a second hitch/pause ...then it'll keep going normally. like it was loading something.

is this common?


also the game screwed up on me after the part where ya help kill the dude's wife. i couldn't click on anything or talk to anyone. also, at this point, when i'd try to walk a certain distance in any direction, the graphics would stop being displayed and all that was shown was an empty, blank space.

aside from that, it was quite fun. i was using the girl with the bows ...demon hunter i think.
 
LOL bad sign that the installer is thrashing my elderly Q6600 like nobody's business?

Downloading at 2m/s though, this should be quickish.

Now I won't feel bad about not installing the game on my ssd.

The space on that is too precious.

I fucking love Diablo. Here's to testing and everybody finally getting a chance to toy around with this baby.

edit: Oddly, I got no email. My WoW account was compromised many years ago, so I assume that something is weird there because of that?
 
What's the difference between this and the previous beta that lasted for years (Well, a year)? Or is this just a test track sampler they've put out to work out some glitches and let people get a feel for the system?

And I've just read a few replies here, but it sounds very disappointing for a game that's been in development for, like, 10 years under Blizzard..
 
funny thing, I never got an email saying i was invited and since my WoW account has been shut down going on 7 months I never had reason to log into my Battle.net account.

Bout 30minutes ago I clicked this thread just to read up on what you Gaffers had to say and saw someone say they got in so I decide to log in and saw Diablo 3 beta sitting in my owned games section. Go figure! No clue how long its been there. Downloading now. EVEN Though I'm not really that excited for it since its same stuff I played at Blizzcon twice now.

I went to the Diablo forums saw a guy saying he would pay $30 for someone to allow him to play for 48 hours. I was so I'd do that an allow him to trouble is I got Authenticator on my account so he'd have to text or call me everytime he wanted to log in....but still I'd do it if i could send PM's on the diablo forums.

  • You will be able to plant your banner in-game wherever you want with the G key by default, even in retail.
  • So far PvP will be restricted to 3v3 Arenas, no "anywhere" PvP.
  • No mention of anything done in Beta carrying over to retail, especially since they wipe the servers every big patch anyways.

Ladies and gentleman. Time to beta test Diablo III.

(I used to play unhealthy amounts of DII, so yeah, I'm am excite.
