Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

You know, it's nice to be in, but theres like 9 levels of content and then you're done. Not an impressive beta. But it's still fun as hell, I can't wait until release.

well servers are getting hammered right now - so I think it serves it purpose ;-)

I noticed. I was doing my Magician run through and had to log out :-/

I wish there were some better official forums. As it is right now the class forums are full of 'is dis build gud?' threads, discussing builds that we can't even test.

I've been playing a bit by myself, and I'm lagging pretty bad. Is this normal? I'm assuming it's just because of the large numbers of people who got their invites recently.

Don't worry - yesterday everything was butter smooth and instant - it's the huge number of new players...

Yeah noticed the lag quite a bit while playing. Logged out and now can't get back in. I mean really? I just want to play fucking single player. Why the fuck is there lag in SINGLE PLAYER!??? RAGE!!!!!!

Knowing that there were 100,000 invites and I didn't get one hurts more than just knowing I missed out on the newest wave ;(.

Imagine how many people applied for the Beta though. Let's say only 10% of all WoW players applied, that would put the total at 1 Million or so.

Only 10% of who have applied have gotten in then.

I'd like to think that this is something of a stress test push and that this really long beta sequence is nearing its end. How much more can they possibly plumb from a 2 hour slice of the game?

I can't play, error_300008. I can't even log on now. I logged on a second ago and messed around in my profile, accepted a friend request but one got a error constantly. So I figured "eh, I'll play." Then I started getting errors. I can't even sign in after rebooting the game.

Same. Also, when I was playing earlier the game was extremely laggy.

Finally got in, haven't played this since Blizzcon 09 (haven't cared to last two times)...game is quite different than it used to be! digging it though. Brings back that old diablo feel...including the painfully bad lag. I knew the beta was short, but this was shorter than I expected too :/

Yeah it's a really short play through. According to others I've talked to they have no plans to lengthen it at all, since the next part of the act reveals a huge story element or something.

That's what I'm thinking as well.
Blizzard always stated that this is a small focused beta, not many testers, etc.
Sending out 100k invites doesn't seem in line with what they had in mind for the general beta - therefore I assume this huge push is a last hooray stressing out their back end stuff - I think this is a sign of a release date in the not so far future.

So I haven't been paying much attention, so my apologies if this has already been covered 100 times in this thread. But is there any character specialization anymore? It seems like you can change skills anytime you want (except for the 60 second cool down after choosing a skill before you can swap it out.)

Is the only customization now in equipment?

No. There are also runestones that are fastened to each skill you have active. The rune stones will change the visual, stat and physical effect of the ability, depending on which runestone you use.

That's cool. Are there runestones in the beta?

Is there a reason why every time I create a Battletag it never saves? It always goes through and gives me a # but once I log out and log back in, it's gone.

And there was 100,000 invites? Salt on the wound :/

Login server seems to be acting up for me.

Also I found that when stuttering was most prominent was when my ping was 500+(???)

They weren't kidding when they said they were stress testing, but why am I getting such high pings while playing alone?

I'm impressed so far. It is equaling my expectations so far, which were pretty high. It runs smooth, looks and sounds great, and the tried and true formula is as addictive as ever. My first test was to run the game as soon as soon as the client said I could, skipping a full DL or optimal install. It worked fine. Having an Eyefinity set up, the game actually plays on all 3 monitors. StarCraft 2 does that at times too, so I'm not shocked.

I'm getting the feel of the world and play style again in single player, then I'll be up for public games. The game is Diablo to the core. The witch doctor is fun but I look forward to giving each class a chance and seeing if there is a difference in power for this portion of the game.

Btw, I could totally see playing this on a console.

So far I've played the Monk the most, and it's definitely the one I enjoy the most. I'm actually surprised that it feels a bit like a Paladin (my favorite class in D2).

I was hoping my roommate also got into the beta, so we could play together, but he didn't. :(

Oh well, I let him try it out on my machine, but sadly, he kept getting hit with massive lag.

Is it my imagination, or is it considerably smaller than the Diablo 2 beta?

I have really enjoyed it so far. I was originally planning on giving the game a pass for awhile but now I am thinking I might pick it up if I can get a few dollars off somewhere.

I downloaded titans quest just tuo scratch the itch.

For better or worse, buying blizzard games near day one isn't as bad as other games since blizzard games rarely drop in price.

ok who broke the servers?

It looks like they are getting results from stress testing. Can't believe that I log in and it only shows 500 or so players online when I add up the column and 0 players online overall.

I told my brother to check his account and he got in too so I am looking forward to playing with him.

I can't play beta anymore its just making me want D3 even more. Been on D2 for a week and it really is a nice filler waiting for the third game to come out.

Graphics are fucking nasty but my lvl 28 barbarian will hear none of that kind of talk! If anyone wants to play let me know!

I rarely add people of my own volition, but if you add me, I promise to accept: thetrin#1629.

I thought this too, that we'd see a release date soon, but then I saw this in the quote of the 100k beta invites:

If you didn’t receive an invite, never fear! We’re going to continue to give away beta invites, so be on the lookout for promotions, contests, and giveaways on our properties as well as at your favorite fansites. We’ll have more information about these global giveaways as well as regional betas in the coming weeks.

Which to me means we're still a few months away from release.

I'm in since yesterday. After not getting into the SC2 beta last year, this makes up for all the resentment I had for Blizzard. See you online bitches!

Quick question.

I've level my blacksmith to lvl 4, and trained him 4/5 times for the 5th level. Now it says I need 5 pages. I was under the impression that Blizzard removed pages from the game. Is this just some way to make us stop leveling our blacksmith?

Are they serious with this? Can't log in to play a single player game because their servers are being hammered? This seems kind of messed up. This isn't a mmo that we're constantly paying for. I don't like this system one bit.

Don't worry. I just logged in and played a smooth two hours. The reason for this Beta is to work out those exact kinks. It's a stress test after all. They just got a huge wave of invites, and it was hammered the most at around 6-7 eastern time. They have already fixed it up.

And yes, if this happens frequently come launch be pissed off. It's still beta dude.

My friend list seems to be acting up too. A few people went missing that used to be on there. Is there some limit to how many people you can have?

Otherwise, I'm finding the game to be pretty fun. Ran through the entire beta solo and came out with a level 10 wizard. Need to get some co-op action in now and get those achievements.
