Diablo Immortal |OT| Do You Guys Not Have Phones?

The game has an oversight or bug where your default server is not immediately brought up when going between accounts initially. Just make sure you are on the same server on PC as the one you made your character on and everything should be fine.
Thanks it seems like that was the issue. I wanted to play on my controller but damn it's so janky.

Just hit 22 this morning, and yeah, this game is actually really solid. Probably the best mobile game I've played personally, though I AM playing on PC, lol. Sure, some of the monetization CAN be pretty abrasive, but you can also just not dabble in that whatsoever. The game doesn't force you to pay to proceed or anything remotely similar from what I've seen thus far.

So, if you have any kind of self control, you won't have any issue here whatsoever.

If you're hopeful and hyped about Diablo IV, this is a nice inbetweener until then. I'd recommend giving it a shot, I mean, it's free, why not?

I say it now.
D3 is stil the best diablo for me.
i am enjoying immortal but yeah i agree. if you want a full fat no bullshit diablo experience then D3 is the way to go. D2 isn't terrible but for a lot of people is a nostalgic thing. I never played it when it came out and tried the remake but it doesn't do much for me.

immortal is simple, fun, and has the basic diablo gameplay. perfect for a mobile game. i kept going back to D3 but i had played it too much and didn't want to grind a lot. to be fair i'm not at a point in immortal where i feel like i'm grinding or feeling the need to buy anything to progress.

Exactly. Anyone saying "oh I don't see the MTX issues y'all are talking about" or "they're not that bad" or "you don't have to spend anything" are either blind, willfully ignoring them, or have become conditioned to accept this kind of predatory garbage as normal. I thought my wife's fake strategy RTS/match-3 game she's addicted to on her iPad was bad with regards to monetization schemes. Immortal makes her game's MTX menus and prompts look like child's play.

it's almost like you don't know what a mobile game is but i'm sure you do

Right on cue as I'm typing my reply: A prime example of someone who's been conditioned to accept this bullshit as normal and just plays it off as "just another mobile game".

Bullshit, this is one of the worst implementations of aggressive MTX and P2W schemes ever implemented in a mobile game. Just because other games have lesser predatory models doesn't make this shitshow okay.

Actually it’s one of the most fun games Blizzard has released in recent years. You should put a few hour into it and see for yourself. It’s free after all.

Why can't mobile games just have healthy monetization, just like any other regular digital game on console or PC?
Mobile games don't have to be greedy and constantly nickel & dime you. The only reason they are like that is because there is not enough pushback.

It's not like regular games don't exist on mobile. I bought Monument Valley for a few bucks, it was a full fledged game with no bullsh*t microtransaction.
There are plenty of mobile games out there that are not trying to prey on you, so NO, mobile games don't have to be like that.

Modern monetization has unfortunately become predatory, especially on mobile. We all know this.

But as long as you're not palming or slapping the phone's screen like a spaz, you can close it, and move on without purchasing. The worst thing about it is that it's annoying if anything. But if you play any kind of F2P mobile game, you're familiar with excessive ads and try hard in-game purchase windows. I haven't dabbled in several years, and while it IS annoying it isn't excessive enough to make me want to stop playing it.

Does predatory monetization suck? Yeah, of course. But you can still close windows and enjoy the game for free.

There's "monetization" and then there's Holy Shit look at all the fucking prompts the game is shoving in your face to try to get you to spend money on this thing!. Diablo Immortal is the latter. It has some of the best gameplay of any mobile game but it has the absolute worst level of shitty microtransactions. And those transactions are literally pay to win. You can pay to have significant advantages in both PVE and PVP. One of the linked videos above shows just how wide the gulf is between whales who spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on the game and average chumps who spend nothing or only a few bucks here and there.

But sure, it's "boring" to point out how predatory and scummy that shit is.
Just because pay to win shit schemes have become normalized in your brain doesn't mean they are for the rest of us.

Not sure why you cut out the rest of the post that acknowledges that this is a free-to-play title and monetization is to be expected. As for the "in your face" MTX. . .where? Will the shop become necessary to be competitive at higher level PvP play (and possibly PvE leaderboards). . .maybe. At level 40 I haven't seen it, and for damn I am not being nagged to spend a dime in the shop.

And yes, most of these complaints are boring because (a) they aren't actually based on the users actual experience, (2) they come from a perspective of principled superiority as if the player doesn't know the product they just bought is fundamentally designed to take their money and (purple) it ignores the vast majority of people who are going to play this as a straight up Diablo game and never bother with the Gaacha.

. . .but hey, if it never gets old hearing from some folks, preach on.

Someone on YouTube already got to and beat the final boss.

Not sure I understand the story from it, though.

Well you are, by still playing it. Or do you think Blizzard isn't looking at user engagement metrics?
They know that advertisement doesn't work with everybody, hence why they want to target the largest audience possible.
Sure, by playing it I'll be included in metrics, that's a given. That's obviously going to happen. But, because I'm not some kind of drastic whale, means they're not making money off of predatory monetization from me.

But I'm not here to go back and forth with someone that has a different opinion about this than I do, nor is it going to change how I feel. If that's you fighting your good fight, well then you do you man. Boycott away.

The mobile market rejected paid games 6 years ago when Mario had a less than 3% attachment rate while Nintendo was expecting at leat 10%. There is still a market for PC ports (I'm playing the shit out of Medieval 2) but even those can crater, like Jade Empire or Civ 6.

The people complaining ITT have no idea how bad mobile monetization can get. The streamers are latching onto the biggest mobile release to drive their own engagement. Massive games like FIFA mobile or that Star Wars gacha run circles around DI's monetization. Receiving a bundle offer after finishing the tutorial might have been news in 2009.

"Things are bad, but they could be much worse" is not exactly a compelling argument. Sorry.
Paid games are having a though time on mobile due to horrible consumer habits cultivated by the aggressively monetized free 2 play model.

Young people are conditioned into these outright casino schemes, because they don't know any better. It's the reason why these payment models are far less popular on console and PC.

A free to play game has a cash shop. Ohmergawd!

. . .and the Michael Keaton jerk off GIF is sooper appropriate for that video, as if a free to play game wasn't going to have ANY prompts/directions for purchasing premium currency. At no point was he asked to purchase anything and no, it does not ". . .cost ten dollars" to make a clan unless you want a clan immediately at 30 (and the FREE Warband isn't doing it for you). Keep contributing to the thread though, it's good to get a mix of people playing the game and people trawling the internet looking for ANY opinion that matches theirs regardless of its accuracy.

For mobile, I think the gameplay is fine. I barely started only at Lvl20 but seems ok...until it asks for extreme grind or money.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Honest question, but would anyone have bought this game on mobile or PC if it was full price ($70) - assuming it was "content complete" like Diablo 3? I doubt it, outside of a few hardcore fans. Since it's kinda like an MMO - would anyone have bought the game for $40 and paid a $15 monthly subscription, ala World of Warcraft? No?

The unfortunate reality is that Blizzard will make way more money off this game with these predatory microtransactions than they ever would have selling it for full price. To a certain extent, the more people that call them out on this the more press the game will get. Not releasing the game in certain countries where their lootboxes are illegal, for example, probably "hyped" their game up more than anything else because it became mainstream news. They say there's no such thing as bad press after all. The same is true with all these youtube videos saying Diablo Immortal "is the worst" because, just like playing the game is boosting the games engagement metrics, so are these videos. Blizz knows that a percentage of people that watch / share these videos will go on to try the game for themselves anyway. They don't care if one of the top trending Youtube videos is critical, as long as it's about their game.

It's sad, but when something is made for the general masses you can't be surprised when shitty tactics like this work because the general masses are incredibly retarded.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna enjoy playing through the game without paying anything and then delete it. Am I part of the problem? Possibly. But I know realistically no amount of me not playing this game for free is going to change anything going forward. The idiots have already won.

Did you happen to miss Steam crates, keys, capsules, sprays and all the other bullshit? Roblox? Fortnite and PUBG which came to mobile years after PC and console? "Oh think of the children - no, not those children!"
Paid games are having a tough time on mobile because most people would rather get bite-sized experiences for free. I spent more time having fun with Diablo Immortal than with some full price games. That is what matters, not the fact that some spergs will min-max their characters by spening money instead of spending years like in previous Diablos. In fact, I think it's better for everyone that they can pay with money instead of paying with time. I also don't give a fuck about young people having access to their parents' wallets in a world where Panini stickers and Kinder eggs exist.
Go bitch about Gambino Slots or something. Or are the experts not talking about those mobile games with millions of downloads?

Cool.

Fantastic.

He also talks about the dumbed down mechanics and the horrible gameplay.

Man's entitled to his opinion. The gameplay is Diablo 3 without (to the best of my knowledge) skill customization. More than enough for me while waiting for D4 and wanting to co-op in an ARPG that isn't dead.

What he says about his game has weight and his opinion certainly matters more than yours.

To who? The hundreds or people who watch his stream. This is opposed to the MILLIONS of people who enjoy DIABLO and ARPG's in general who likely have no idea who this guy is? Like, by all means swing the guys dick for him in this thread, but it is wild you think, rhat for the people who are enjoying the game for what it is, they are going to be swayed by some entitled Diablo 2 streamer (and for sure he's entitled if he's got folks like you swinging his dick for him) having the much-brave so-original take that a mobile game is bad after a whooping HOUR of play.

This confused me early on. Turns out legendary items act like the skill runes from Diablo 3. I picked up a sword that makes the Whirlwind skill freeze enemies.

just noticed that when i loaded this up on PC that a program called CCVideoPlayer launches. The name is CC直播.

seems sketchy as shit. wtf is this?

edit: ok nvm, seems like it's part of the iOS framework. lmfao so the PC version is basically just the iPhone/iPad version :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It costs $22 (1.600 eternal orbs) to get a 45% chance of having a legendary gem drop in an elder rift over 10 runs.

20 quid for a chance at having a decent item drop and that's not even getting to the awakening mechanics, which are even more absurd.
The monetization in this game is outright disgusting.

What is your goal here? You aren't going to convince people to change their mind by repeatedly insulting everybody.

I'm way past trying to convince any of you pay 2 win microtransaction apologists. To be frank, you're a lost cause at this point.
I just don't want other people fall for the same trap.

He's level 23 and spent $347. I'm 30+ and spent £0.

Am I an outright tool?

Asmon is paying in order to show you the absurd magnitude of this disgusting pay 2 win model and how many advantaged you get from merely throwing money at the game.
He is doing it, so you don't have to. He literally tries to make you aware of how crappy the monetization in this game really is and you don't even realize it.

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out at what point he actually hit a wall and couldn’t progress in the content of the game without forking over money in that 1 hour plus video he posted.

There is plenty of fair criticism to talk about with this game, but this clown is being intellectually dishonest and personally attacking everybody that enjoys this game.

Hopefully this shitstain isn't canon.
It is.

It takes place between Diablo 2 and 3 but I'm not completely sure on the story. Someone already beat the final boss and if I saw right there's not even a cut scene ending, not even a still.

Just curious. Was there something in the game that threw you off why you mentioned you hope it isn't canon?

It's awful F2P mobile garbage, that kind of shit doesn't belong in the Diablo series. Even though 3 really dragged it through the ringer, this game doesn't fit the series.
