Did anybody else get a loading screen during Halo 2?

I'm on my 5th run through, and in between Outskirts and Metropolis, I got a loading screen (Loading: 85% 90% 95% 100%). I never noticed that in the game before, that's definitely the first time I saw it, did anybody else get such a thing?

In other news, I just hijacked a Banshee on the bridge in Metropolis :D

You have a shitty DVD-ROM.

My friends second (modded) Xbox was having DVD-ROM issues. So when he replaced it with a shitty 2x PC DVD-ROM Drive Halo 2 gave the Loading % screen.

You received an actual loading screen (not just the small text "loading")? If that's the case, I'd assume there was a problem reading data from the disc (and the DVD drive is likely at fault) and the game simply needed to catch up.

I downloaded some of those cinemas from the Halo 2 movie archive, and was suprised to see less pop-in overall during the cutscenes. I'm wondering if those problems become more or less severe depending on the quality of your XBOX hardware.

My Xbox is only a year and some months old, so that's a shame. I'm going to see if it does it some more constantly. Come to think of it, my Xbox has been acting up, I keep on getting disc errors with Project Gotham Racing 2 :-(

Also yes, it's definitely a Loading % screen, it didn't have any effects either, like the loading screens in the other loading screens in the game.

I've seen the screen once, it was during a multiplayer session. My drive has the two holes in it, so I don't thnk it's that. Maybe cache was full, whatever that means. :/ But it was just as you described, didn't take long though, just appeared during 90-95%.

If you are running off the hard drive of a modded Xbox and have deleted the bungie video that plays at start up, you will get a loading screen aswell. I wouldn't have thought you would have seen it otherwise, but this thread reminds me that I need to get my non modded xboxs drive fixed sooner or later (It's pretty much a launch model and scratches discs but I haven't been arsed to ring MS yet)

Cool. Now your next challenge is to get the Scarab gun hidden on that same map. Believe me, the wanton destruction it brings is well worth the challenge.

No more loading screens :D though the pop-in for me is pretty severe.

tedtropy: I heard about that. Where can I find out how to get it? Very interesting.

I'd say that's definitely the case, similar to how GTA:SA's performance strongly depends on the state of your PS2.

They do. When I loaded the game onto my harddrive, I didn't see it at all. But when I played it through a friend's box, from the disc drive, it was painfully obvious.

Step 1: Load the level Metropolis on any difficulty. It is recommended that you
kill the marines at the starting area so they don't become a problem later.
Board the tank and head out. Remember to also kill the marine that joins you
half way across the bridge.

Step 2: When you reach the other side, hijack an enemy Ghost and clear out the
area by any means, leaving at least one Banshee still flying.

Step 3 (CO-OP only): Have one player keep the Banshee(s) occupied while the
other takes a Ghost into the tunnel and clears out all the enemies, make sure
you also destroy the Warthog full of marines when it comes by. When you reach
the last section come back to the end of the bridge.

Step 4: Go through the tunnel, firing back at the Banshee from time to time to
keep it "interested." If playing single player take out the Warthog that shows
up so they don't kill the Banshee.

Step 4a: This is very annoying, you will find the Banshee getting stuck against
walls and buses several times. When it gets stuck, use the opportunity to shoot
off the wings as this makes things easier but be careful not to destroy the
Banshee. To get the Banshee unstuck you need to walk around it and back slowly
away until it retargets you and starts moving again.

Step 5: Now for the really hard part, getting the Banshee into the small tunnel
at the end. This is the most likely place for you to screw up and have to
restart so be careful. There's no real way to make getting it in easier except
that if it starts to veer away from where it needs to go(and it probably will)
start backing up as far as you can in the direction you want it to go. Once it
gets almost to the checkpoint you need to move behind it and try to move it
forward by meleeing it. It should get stuck just before the checkpoint so force
it through and immediately start boarding it. You need to actually start the
hijack a moment before the checkpoint so that you grab on as you cross otherwise
the Banshee disappears and you gotta start over.

Step 6: Once you successfully board the Banshee, fly out of the tunnels and into
the circular area where the Gauss Warthog is driving around. Fly up, way up
towards the two bridge like structures. The closest one has the Scarab Gun on
it. It is hard to see until you get up on it but it looks like a Plasma Rifle
sitting on top of one of the "Danger" cones.

It's a pain in the ass to get, but it's a pretty cool feeling when you do and it is incredibly destructive. We're talking 'blow up three Ghosts in one wave' destructive.

Thank you! I'm going to give this a try

Apparently if you have an older/worn PS2, object and texture pop-in can be more severe as the game tries to load data from the drive. I've heard that those who own the slim PSTwo get the best performance from the game.

I only have the PSTwo, though, so I couldn't personally vouch for the difference.
