Did you camp at a store with random strangers to get your Switch 2?

Did you?

Lol.. why?

There is no hype because the system isn't worth it so far. And there are no interesting games to play on it.
Ouch. That's a womp womp for sure.

I went nuts trying to get a Switch 1 so I could play BotW. My wife jumped through hoops to get it.
That's just not happening now. With all the hype about "limited stock" and "Nintendo expects to sell through," that's just not a reflection of the reality at all.

I know this is a deeply unpopular opinion - nostalgia and all that, I get it (I have the same problem) - but I hope this thing flops hard and shatters Nintendo's undeserved hubris.

I wouldnt do that if they were selling the last copy of bloodborne remake. No more standing in lines like a good consumer. Now I just talk shit about games and play the old stuff.

Back from Target. They had a couple of them behind the glass. But I couldn't find anyone in the Electronics section. I saw a few shoppers in the clothing section and the food side.
Toys, electronics, books was silent. Everone at work on a Thursday it seems.
I'm going to wait for the OLED version anyway. There is a thread saying the LCD isn't very good for HDR.

Naaa probably that won't happen. Let's see the numbers.
Post I responded to said there's no hype. In Japan at My Nintendo Store alone 2.2 million people registered for preorder. There's massive demand for this thing and Nintendo flooded the supply channels with a crazy amount of units. It's going to do big numbers.

Why would you camp out? There is plenty of stock. Plenty here in the UK.
I feel sorry for people who paid months in advance and are still waiting. Nah not really

People think since there is still stock left on shelves that it's not big, but we are looking at conceivably 8 million launch units vs PS5's 3.4 million, which likely will still run out by the end of the week.
With no covid supply chain issues, I think scalpers get stuck this time around.

Understandable. However, its been over 5 years with paper launches for consoles, excessive amounts of scalpers, et. No one was expecting to see in-store stock launch day, that doesn't seem to be a regular occurrence. Its crazy that once was normal is now seen as massively undesirable

I walked up to my very small town Target about five minutes before it opened and got the 15th of 20the bundle available. Took about 15 minutes total.

Weren't the last consoles launched in covid times? Those were strange times in unusual circumstances. A perfect storm of manufacturing and supply chain constraints mixed in with zero contact retail store policies.

This time around two of the largest retailers Amazon and Target didn't do preorders.
Which to me makes sense at getting people physically in your store (in Targets situation).

I feel this may be a new norm to be honest, unless brick and mortar stores go away all together.

They were, and agreed that digital storefronts were exploding as were in-home entertainment purchases. I wasn't aware that Target and Amazon didn't hold pre orders. I hope that becomes a standard to alleviate the scalper issue, and allows for day 1 purchases in store. Still weird on becoming the standard when that's how it used to be for the most part

I can walk into a Target right now and buy one.

Im glad folks are excited to play their new Switch 2, but until there is something truly worth playing on it...meh.

Target did pre-orders. Did Amazon even get any to sell launch day?

I have a feeling these won't be too hard to get . The higher price will thin out the crowds.

It's not an xmas launch either.
Somebody was saying otherwise...

The availability or desirability? The PoS and time of year play a role in availability for sure, but im not sure how big of role they play.
There seems to be hype, but that could be contained within the community. Nintendo generally has strong launches with very limited availability (Wii/switch 1/etc). I was saying because you can pick it up in-store doesn't automatically make it undesirable. It was nice to be able to actually find a in-demand item on launch day

You said no one thought there would be stock. Well ... one of us did. ;) Just having some fun because I had posted it wouldn't be too difficult to find one given it's June and the price is high due to inflation/tariffs.

I didn't comment on undesirability. Seems rather premature. And certainly stock or no stock doesn't say anything about that. AS stock is dependent not only on demand but supply.

Yep. People are underestimating because they're seeing it in the wild. Our little GameStop had about 100 out the door before official launch day. This morning at 5am the Spark driver from Walmart doing deliveries in just our side of town had ~40 units in her trunk. Completely packed out.

Nintendo saturated the market with an insane amount of units.

Cheers to you and your insights. Its nice to be able to actually get in on launch day. Especially when skipping the switch

Yeah I guess they did.. I didn't realize because nobody was there for pickup, nor did they announce anything about in store pickup.

How did they manage to still have ~100 units per store? Did they hold back on taking preorders? or did Nintendo just produce that many for launch?

Good thing about it though, is they managed to minimize the scalping (for now at least).

I believe Nintendo allocated an incredible amount of stock, for the US at least. I do expect initial shipments to be hard to come by the weekend, however. Overall I think it will be somewhat easy to find (again in the US) up until closer to the holidays where it might become more difficult.

Seems like it's not terribly hard to find and $450-$500 is a tough ask for many folks in these economic times(imo) when I(personally) dont find as much interesting at launch.

Good that they are readily available. Scalpers in shambles.

Sold out here on Long Island. Maybe these posts are located in the Midwest or some place?

Checked the target stock on the bundle in my area all gone. Was the 1st and only person this morning at the one close to me and they had a ton. Few stores in area still have a few of the switch only box.

I have seen stock on a Lot of retailers , even Amazon...at least here in México Amazon runs out of stock on every new console release.

Blame the price , 650 US for the base sku is a Lot.

Reviews seem strange on Target's site. The majority are 1 star, but show no recent reviews. I would think it 56% were 1 star, there would be plenty. Is the S2 being reviewed bombed? Anyone else come across weird review metrics

In Los Angeles County.. There are about 6-7 Targets within a `~5 mile radius of me that all have stock at the moment.
Edit: I stand corrected; now only 1 store has 1 available in stock. They all had ~100 or so per store this morning.

I'd only camp at a store overnight with random strangers to purchase gaming hardware on the condition that we will share a sleeping bag for added warmth if it gets too chilly. My line in the sand.

Maybe. I live in a small city and went by my local Walmart after work at like 6pm and they still had them. So did the Gamestop..but I mean..this isn't a particularly affluent town so the price is a tall ask around here for a lot of folks.
