He basically crawled through the history of the Wayne family and made his way back. Return of Bruce Wayne is well worth reading, even if it is a bit confusing. During that time, Dick Grayson was Batman.

I don't really like crossovers, which is what keeps me from reading a lot of monthly comics. I can handle Batman and Superman running into each other on occasion, but for the most part I like my heroes existing in their own solo universes.

I still like to pretend they exist by themselves. My brain doesn't like the idea of multiple superheroes....even though it is somehow all right with multiple villains.

Well, it's batman. Some of the things they have batman do in JLA to justify his existence there (because let's be honest, having no powers against universal threats is a pretty big handicap) are just unbelievable.

That hasn't been true since the 1970s. The "pre-crisis" superman had a lot of abilities (time travel, super hypnotism) that have been edited out of canon for obvious reasons.

No, he's largely just a long for the ride through much of it. Every time there's an eclipse in the timeline that he is currently in, he gets thrown to the next one. The whole thing is an elaborate Plan B by Darkseid.

LOL. Calm down. I didn't say I only read graphic novels, I said mostly, followed by saying I loved Ultimate Spider-Man. So it's obviously not a hard-line stance I have. I'm not sure if it's correct terminology, but I've always called the collections of monthly comics trade paper-backs and stand alone stories or a collection of a mini-series (like Watchmen) a graphic novel.

Regardless, even in the trades, you are still mostly getting a single story line. Which is why I stick to that. It's like a movie, I kind of know what the setting and characters are going to be. So I can skip shit I don't care about.

Read the Nu52's Batman. It's pretty amazing.

One of these days. I need to catch up on Batman and Robin. I read the first arc and really liked it. I didn't expect to like Damian since he sounds pretty stupid on paper. But, I really liked him.

the Omega sanction "THE DEATH THAT IS LIFE" is one of Darkseid's special abilities to send your consciousness back through time. each time you die (in progressively more gruesome ways) you jump forward and forward in time. and you remember all of it.
