Vagrant Story > every other RPG

I think FFXII will be amazing though.
Yes yes yes yes and yes. Vagrant Story shitcans every other RPG I've ever played. And I personally invested something like 150 hours into FF7. But there is nothing that has left me with the overwhelming feeling of satisfaction that VS did. I am on a personal crusade to spread the good word about this game in the hopes that Squeenix gives us a much-deserved sequel. Fuck the sales, games of that caliber deserve sequels, especially when the story is only beginning. The ending of that game left me wanting so much more, but it seems like Square just doesn't give a shit. I think they even demoted the guy who headed the project. :( PEACE.

Man, this is a hard choice.

On the PSone, there were exceptional RPG's. To me, Star Ocean 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy IX, Valkyrie Profile, L:SSSC, and L:EB are some of my favorite games.

On the PS2, I'm not sure if there are any games that have come close. I still have SMT3 shrink wrapped, didn't play Phantom Brave yet, but BoF and Disagaea rock.

Hopefully FFXII and DQVIII can exceed my expectations.

Also...WHERE IS VALKYRIE PROFILE 2?!?!

Edit:

Not to derail the thread, but I'm actually surprised at Gamecube's decent RPG outgoings. No where near the volume, but Skies of Arcadia Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and Paper Mario 2 are all really fucking awesome.

Yeah, I think GC hands down had the best console for RPGs in 2004. .. Every other year, not even close, but GC's lineup last year was kickass.

PSOne for me too. Funny, since my first time owning a Sony system was 2002. It was my first chance at most of the Final Fantasies (I had only beat FFVI previous) and the other RPGs.

On the PSX side, there was FFVII which was pretty good. I ran out and bought FFVIII and FFIX (which could still be found new at that point). I still don't get why VIII and IX were panned by fans. I thought both were very high quality games. VIII's story was pretty complex without shoving it all in your face (unlike VII). IX was just charming all-around.

Tactics was really good, if not almost too fucking difficult to complete.

I liked Chrono Cross too. I liked the connections to Chrono Trigger, however few there were. The hardest part for me was getting past the artstyle.

Xenogears I played two years ago, after Xenosaga. Took me a while, but I found it enjoyable as well.

I really hated Grandia. The voice acting just did it in for me. The battle system was still great though.

Since then I've bought Wild ARMs 2, Persona 2, Lunar 2, Vagrant Story, Alundra, Parasite Eve, and Tales of "Destiny 2," but haven't got around to playing most of them yet. Put a few hours into VS, but the big ol
Rock boss
pissed me off, so I stopped. Played Alundra for a bit and never went back to it.

On the PS2 side, there's FFX, which I thought was fantastic except for some spotty voice work and uncomfortable scenes. Enjoyed Nippon Ichi's games and Kingdom Hearts, and that's been about it. Oh, FFX-2 too. One of the few fans of that. Really fun and quick battle system. There's been nothing quite up to the quality of the PSX RPGs though. I just wish Square would release FFXII already. It's been too long without a real FF.

the cover art of digital devil saga reminded me of neon genesis evagilion and akira. i cant explain but i just think generic anime whenever i see any of it.

i also hate ippon ichi games. i just have a hatred for anime. and those are not rpg they are srpgs

Kaneka is one of those Japanese artists whose work is by and large devoid of the cliches that are legion in anime. It's rare for someone to have the ability to create with such distinctiveness, true maturity, and creativity.

Yeah, I hate most anime, too. Thing is, NI games are straight fine AWESOME, so I overlook it. :)
