Difference between CompactFlash and Secure Digital Memory?

My cousin in the UK just purchased a nifty Dell Axim PDA and he wants me to get him some memory for it. It takes both CF and SD. My question is there any difference between the two? Any advantages in speed of one compared to another? And what is a good place to get it cheaply?

I think CF is generally cheaper since I believe it's the oldest of all the flash card formats, but the cards have a physically larger form factor than SD cards.

As for where to buy: NewEgg?

Any difference in speed? I think he wants to watch videos of tv shows while he takes the train (aka "tube") to work. Would CF be up to the task?

I believe the Axim's use the Compact Flash slot for other expansions, in addition to memory. You're better off using the SD slot as your dedicated memory expansion. Prices should be comparable. I've seen 1GB SD for as low as $60, after rebates.

You can usually use either compactflash or SD for peripherals. eg wifi card, GPS receiver etc. Maybe get him to think about what he might want from expansion, then check out prices/availability, then you'd know whether you can still choose which slot for memory, or if you are forced into one or other.

Both are pretty much the same from a PDA point of view.
