Why did these questions make it past the first page?
Bungie could NOT hit 1080p on the X1 on their own.
Bungie did hit 1080p on the PS4 on their own.
With Microsoft's help they got to 1080p. The PS4 had more headroom, and they hit their target there first.
I don't see anything to fuss about.
I think it hinges on what you think Bungie should have done. What amount of extra effort should they have put into the PS4 version beyond what they actually did?
For instance in the PS2/Xbox generation, Ubisoft built separate versions of Splinter Cell, one for Xbox and one for PS2, which had large differences in both visual fidelity and in the size and scope of the levels. Do you think that a similar approach should be taken to PS4 and Xbone development?
Bungie stated that they were aiming for parity. Like I said, they made the PS4 version to a spec they calculated they could eventually achieve on XONE. They knew the MS team was helping and factored all that in.
It is pretty foolish to think that the PS4 could not push this a bit harder if Bungie wanted to.

There were plenty of games that ran at double the frame rate of PS2. And remember San Andreas? That was vastly improved over the PS2 version.

I think each console should be treated individually and each be used to their full potential. It's really as simple as that for me.
I have to cut some slack to Bungie here, though, seeing as they also had to juggle last-gen versions of the game too.

While I agree that that should be the case (especially for a game that has a fuckign 500 million USD budget), is it at all surprising that this game does not take add extra ontop of the xb1 version for ps4?
So many things in this game are unambitious...
The power gap is not HUGE. It is definitely there, but it is nottttttt huge.
But this isn't a 'simple' proposition. It could range from just increasing framerate and image quality, through to improving asset detail (texture resolution/polgon counts), all the way through to separate SKUs a la Splinter Cell.
When you say 'all I want is for each platform to be treated individually', there's so many possibilities for what that means.

1080p isn't the only factor that determines parity, you know? I mean, we won't know if parity has been fully achieved until they do their in-depth face-off analysis, but there are tons of other technical factors which play a role in parity.

I can get behind it not being unreasonable to discuss what more could have been done.. Like improvements to do more for the graphical aspect of the game... But most people are jumping to the far radical of the conversation assuming that they had so much more and didn't use it for parity sake when we all know that the PS4 version already hit its goal and Xbox was the one playing catch up. This former argument isn't happening in these conversations. It's always about the latter.
The OG Xbox was hilariously more powerful than the PS2 overall. The fact that you don't recall there being as much differences visually and performance-wise is just proving his point. The Xbox's extra grunt was being used far less for multiplats than the PS4's is now... but people weren't all waving their arms screaming "parity" each time the PS2 version was comparable. Splinter Cell is one of the very few games that displayed the sort of gap that the specs implied. There was also Resident Evil 4 on GC (primarily because it wasn't designed as a multiplat initially).

I love destiny, but man, the game is simply not a graphical showpiece. It's friggin cross-gen for goodness sake. Don't fighter over this one fellas, Bungie definitely didn't push any console hard for this one.
This AFAIC, is just Bungie's warm-up game. I won't be investing so heavily into the title until the full current gen only exclusive really.

They are not testing it in later action heavy parts of the game with a full fireteam. Hopefully they do in the full face-off.

Early PS3, definitely, since Cell was impenetrable back then so games ran like shit. Just look at comparisons for Splinter Cell: Double Agent to get an idea of what the gap was like at the start of last gen.

What you're missing is that Bungie did that on PS4 before releasing the Alpha. Did their PS4 people just sit on their hands for months, or move on to other versions?
I need to play it, but I'm buying it after it hits rock bottom in the used market. (probably after the base moves on to the next entry)

Not that I can remember. In fact parity was often praised because it meant no one was getting a shitty version.
Kind of funny how both Blizzard and Bungie need help from MS to get 900 -> 1080p
It´s like there is some magic code only MS engeneers know about which is crucial to reach 1080p on Xbox One
Probably some low level optimizations that aren't addressed yet in the SDK. Something something ESRAM, Move engines. dunno.

Nobody is getting screwed. Its not 2002 anymore when a 200 Gflop difference in power meant you were going to see completely different lighting techniques being used between the different versions of multiplats. Xbox One dev tools were dog shit, now they're not. Its that simple.
True. It will be down to developers to make most of the console-specific features; and since we're early in this cycle I dont expect too much fancy stuff. There arent that much new graphical tricks that can be done; except raytracing and the likes. Which is hard. Only 1st party studios have the time/budget allocation to really dive into that stuff and optimise things. 3rd parties will mostly be happy enough if the game can be developer & released on multiple platforms without too much hassle.
San Andreas, the Timesplitters games, the Burnout games, Fight Night, Need for Speed and probably a ton of others were noticeably superior on Xbox.

I don't think comparing the OG Xbox is fair since the circumstances are way different. The OG Xbox was pretty much DOA in the market while PS4 enjoys a comfortable 2:1 lead worldwide.

Everyone, three things
A) A PS4 is not a super computer
2) There is no doubt it could have been pushed further, maybe the pre-order numbers stopped anyone bothering. You only have your selves to blame pre-order people.
and
D) It's cross generation, everyone and their cat knows that cross gen games always turn out like this, that's why both are 1080/30. If it was next gen only then the graphics and effects would have been improved and it would be 1080 vs 793 or whatever strange res the xbox would be given.
You come here for a bit of news and opinion, help you decide if the game is for you and you have to wade through all the whinging or deriding. The consoles have been out for 11 months, any danger of people just getting over it?

That's why I canceled my preorder, I am going to buy it for 30 used. If I pay the same, I want the same effort for my version. Easy as that. I don't care if I have to wait a month...
To people calling the gap "not huge". What is huge for you? PS4 is~40-45% more powerful and that is not huge?

I'd be inclined to agree with you on that one.
I think it's a pretty straightforward sentiment. In my opinion, when a dev is making a game, each version of the game be the absolute best it can be on the given hardware for each platform. Even if it's something as small as one platform having 16xAF, compared to the other's 8xAF. It should be done...just because it can be done.
I sure hope so. As a recent (as in 2 days ago) purchaser of a Benq xl2420z and a recent convert to the joys of 60+ fps gaming, the fact that a ps360 game is 30 fps on new gen hardware really sux balls.
But it isn't like they weren't upfront:
