Digital Foundry: Resident Evil Requiem PC Path Tracing - Hands-On First Look!

beautiful happy endings GIF

Oh, so they finally finished path tracing implementation. I tried with Dragon's Dogma 2 but it has some weird glitches especially at night if you don't have any light source on you. Now, this does look gorgeous.

??? The RE Engine isn't shit.

I replayed RE2 and 3 on PS5 Pro and games look excellent with RT lightning and reflections. 10/10 HDR in RE3 as well (RE2 is washed out). I also replayed RE4 on PC and it still looks very good but lighting isn't so great without RT solution...

Turd like Monster Hunter is why people think that engine is shit but it just sucks for open world games.

Yeah, it works wonderfully for the games it was made for, not fucking open/semi open world games with huge areas, tons of wildlife, and CPU-driven interactions.

Yep, me preparing to feel superior to consoles because I have an expensive RIG:

It's not that, some console fanboys are just retarded and think that their 700$ consoles are better than 1000$+ PCs. You can see every PC thread with someone like that.

PC is objectivity superior in most aspects (not all of them).

All fanboys are retarded.
Also, FTFY.
PCMR types need not get their panties in a twist, my point is that visual advances like that could make me join them (for shame).

6 years and 8 months. That's an entire console generation.
Not that much, considering:

- RE2 got a beefy next-gen upgrade with RT (plus DX12 rendering only on PC).
- Most of the games this gen generally don't look THAT much better than the previous gen.
- Open-world or not, some of the recent current-gen RE engine games like Wilds and DD2 looked... underwhelming.

It's no From Software engine, but the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragons Dogma 2 is awful given the visuals on display.
Yea, you can't just start throwing giant open worlds at an engine tailor-made for Resident Evil. This isn't the first time we've seen such a thing happen and it won't be the last.

The engine is great for what it was designed for.

no they don't.
Don't go pretending that windows , drivers etc never cause problems either

You literally only need a screwdriver to mount the motherboard and CPU nowadays if you have a good case. If you are spending COUNTLESS HOURS to turn 10 screws and run a handful of wires, yea you should stick to consoles and probably rode the little bus to school.

Sure.

Anyway, consoles and PCs are great in different ways and have different pros and cons, pretending otherwise is just claptrap so we shouldn't do this.
The only thing "great" in console for me is some exclusive game. I just got a Switch 2 for Mario Kart World and some future exclusives to play handheld.

Yeah, they can but consoles aren't really hassle free like they were back in the day. Depending on the internet speeds you can wait hours for game installs and OS, game updates when setting new consoles up.

Even controllers have patches now!

They're still less hassle than PCs.
Consoles - less hassle, easier, less powerful, cheaper to buy.
PCs - more hassle, more powerful, more expensive to buy but games are cheaper.

That's it, there's nothing to fight over.

I swear every few years when new GPUs come out, the definition of what constitutes "real ray-tracing" changes, in order to sell people more GPUs. Meanwhile DS2 is probably the best looking game ever made and it has no ray-tracing at all.

Looks nice though.

It's not, far from it.

Ah, you cherry-picked one mediocre game that is a technical mess.

Mate, there are gazillions of console games stuck with low resolutions frame rates, crap upscalling, etc. That was just a example.
And there are plenty of shitty PC ports that are an unoptimised mess.

You would think that, with gaming PCs being so perfect, the master race would just sit smugly, enjoying it rather than posting endlessly about how shit consoles are.

Properly cringeworthy.
The clip in this thread makes me feel like overhauling my PC, people like you lot make me want never to go near it again.

Yes, but almost all shitty ports are still better than the best console version.

No one said PC gaming is perfect. Far from it. It's just in your head.
