Digital Foundry vs Metro Redux

4a improved Metros resolution 12p with the new sdk. Bungie claim they improved destiny from 900p to 1080p with the new sdk. I think Destiny has a great art style, but it's far from a graphics horse.

I feel the opposite About Metro, I Think its a Graphically demanding game. I'm starting to believe Bungie had alot of headroom with the ps4, and they just didn't use it.

Face palm...

You really think 12p was the actual improvement when countless of 60fps XBO games have had to resort to 720p resolution? Killer Instinct, Battlefield 4, CoD: Ghosts, MGS: GZ, Titanfall, etc.? Pretty impressive that they're hitting 60fps and able to boost the resolution to 900p, in fact beyond to 912p. Prior to SDK improvements it's very likely that this game would be 720p or 792p @ 60fps. 912p is very welcome news.

Prior to SDK improvements the game was already 900p...

Metro Redux is 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One

Not sure what you mean there, but my post was meant to agree with your question. Fun single player, but with less heavy action sequences and more horror survival theme.

my apologies mate, just the 'Uhhuh' seemed a bit sarcastic but just my cynicism showing its ugly head lol :P

I think ill get it as it does look fun though

Very likely that the SDK allowed them to get a locked 60fps that they didn't have before. Devs will use the SDK update in different ways... Just look at how Insomniac is using it (more particle effects, etc.) As opposed to how Bungie is.

for you 4A games, thanks for showing other developers how its done

Lol no worries dude. I often say that irl and didn't even notice. After you said that i reread it and It does feel a bit sarcastic.

But yeah the game has one of the best atmosphere in years. I managed to push through the first game despite it being a horrible performance mess thanks to the atmosphere alone.

My point is being missed. Prior to SDK improvements we have no idea what framerate they were hitting. Just because you're targeting 60, doesn't mean that prior to the SDK improvements they were already there. It could've been somewhere comparable to TR: DE or BF4, and now they're sweetly at 60fps.

Yeah 4A seems like devs that would be totally fine with releasing the XBO version having an unstable framerate

That's not what I'm saying at all. A big part of the SDK improvements have more to do with driver optimizations than the actual increase in resources from removing Kinect restrictions. 4A would probably tweak the game to 60 on their own, but that's not to say the SDK didn't get them there much quicker and easier.

I'm sure the big part of the June SDK was actually the freeing up of the kinect resources and the optimizations were just a natural part of the drivers maturing.

Like others have already said the original resolution was 900p. Be careful with the face palming, you might hurt your self.

Looks pretty great, nice to see PS4/XBone versions running for the most part at 60, 1080p.

I'm interested in seeing a comparison between the maxed out PC vs PS4 Redux.

Obviously PC is going to look better, but I need some games to play on my PS4 and if it looks similar enough, may just pick it up on there.

XB1 version is not 1080p. Just so you know.

Reading about how solid the framerate is and being at 1080p on PS4 put a big smile on my face 😀. I've always wanted to try these games but the first one never came out on PS3 and by the time the second one came I already had next gen on the brain.

I am definitely getting this set, I'm excited as hell. I just hope the controls aren't sluggish or anything. Things like heavy feeling aiming or acceleration problems with the sticks. They looked pretty responsive in videos I've seen.

Aren't the 4A devs from Ukraine and work in hellish conditions for a fraction of most competitors budgets?

These guys deserve as much support as possible. The first Metro game was on sale for cheap for so long and was practically given away half the time and the money asked for Redux feels like a pittance in comparison.

Amazing work that 4A is doing.

I saw the frame-rate in TLOUR drop below 60 about 5-6 times during my play-through. But it wasn't that significant and it was in certain spots when I was spinning the camera around.

Weird resolution for Xbox One but 60fps for both next gen consoles deserves praise. Enjoyable experience for all. Well done 4A

It does. Nothing major but it does. Mostly when loading a new area and saving a checkpoint at the same time. It's still very much a 60fps game the gast majority of the time but it's not perfect.

I know it dips, but it's rare.

"it drops in many places throughout the game" makes it sounds like the framerate is unstable

Are the games going to be available separately digitally?

yep $25 each

how do you guys/girls have the game already? How is it can you give me a few juicy details about it, is it exactly what 4a games says about it, is it that DAMN good?

5-6 drops in a 15-20 hours game is pretty damn awesome.

So it's like 99.9% 60fps most of the time.

Holy crap...when did everyone start jumping on frame drops all of a sudden? Even 60fps or give me death people know games have dropped and will always drop frames even in the most insane computers.

Do games even exist that dont have frame drops?

Other than Nintendo games, not really. Wolfenstein and Rage come much closer than others, due to the dynamic resolution scaling feature of iDTech 5.

Both games are fantastic.

As far as image quality goes, how does the PS4 version stack up to PC on High/Ultra? Trying to figure out if I wanna maybe pick these up for my PS4 instead of PC this time, ya know, trophies and all.

Definitely picking this up on the PS4 (my GTX560 couldn't come close to handling this). Fantastic that it's 1080p/60. I'm glad more and more developers are hitting that mark. It should be the standard.

I'm really liking this trend. And the thing is... once a series goes 60 fps, it ain't goin back to 30...

Not according to Digital Foundry.

Drops a few seconds in the 15 hours of the campaign. That's like 0.0001 of the game.

No it doesn't, and I'm working on my third play through. Maybe twice it has shown and kind of slowdown.

Are you kidding me or simply unable to see fluctuations in the framerate? Remember what we're discussing: Whether The Last of US dips once or many times through the campaign.

To adress StrongBlackVine's claim that it doesn't dip more than once according to DF, watch the videos from DF:

Even in those short videos it dips many times, I stopped counting at 20, and it can easily do so even if it spends 99% of the time at a constant 60fps. But just for kicks I've uploaded three pictures that are all near the beginning of a section with no enemies at all, where you can test for yourselves. It goes without saying that they could be seen as SPOILERS to some, so don't click them unless you've played through the game:

Stand in the designated spots, turn on the flashlight and start rotating your character slowly. It's very easy to see as soon as it deviates from 60. Of course there's plenty of other places where the framerate slows down, even in the same scenes, I just picked some where it cannot be missed..

Uncharted and Halo are making the change to 60 too, which is a big deal since those are huge franchises that have always been 30.

this game needs a photo mode.

soooo THIS, this game would definitely benefit from it. If you want it in the game I say go to twitter and tweet them the message, maybe they can borrow naughty dogs photo mode code I wish developers would share this feature. I don't think alot a multiplat games will have this feature but I have a feeling alot of ps4 exclusives will

Apparently, Destiny, though I fail to see how Bungie got a ~50% increase out of a ~10% performance boost.
What? You realize the 10% boost is not %10% pixel boost? It's just 10% more raw power they can funnel wherever they please. The percentage of power used to generate pixels isn't some direct conversion. 10% more power does not equal a specific number of pixels. There's just a crazy amount of little things they can funnel power too.

Uncharted and Halo are making the change to 60 too, which is a big deal since those are huge franchises that have always been 30.

Almost all games have been 30. That's what everyone was happy with on consoles until very recently when many act like it's against their personal values to sin with 30fps.

4A are gods, a publisher should get them out of the Ukraine ASAP. They deserve better, because the're one of the best developers out there right now.
